Forgetting her keys

Dave was glad that he seemed to be able to comfort her a little. He saw a smile and that was great, but then she changed that feeling. She told him that he didn't have to help her. The smile on his face faded and he looked at her carefully. When she claimed to be tired he watched her move to the bed. He didn't do anything at first. He let her lay there. His eyes never left her though. He thought for a minute and then shook his head. He would not let her go through it alone. He would be by her side as long as she was dealing with it. He wouldn't let her push him away either. The last thing he wanted was to hear that a year later she'd had a mental breakdown or something like it. If he could help her he would.

He got up and moved over to the bed. He slowly moved and lay next to her. He faced her back and his arms wrapped around her. He pulled her close until their bodies were pressed together. He stayed silent for a minute, just holding her and letting her feel that he would be there for her. Then he solidified it all with what he told her. "I may not have to do this, but I want to. It is my fight. I am making it my fight. You are not alone in this. I will be by your side every step of the way. I promise." He leaned over her shoulder and kissed her cheek softly. His arms tightened around her a bit. Emphasis that he wasn't going to go anywhere. He would be there with her.

She turned and saw the sincerity in his eyes and cried softly as she turned into his arms, burying her head in his chest to muffle the tears. After a few moments to gather herself, she looked up into his eyes and smiled. A genuinely happy smile, glad to know he was going to be with her by here side as long as it took to get justice. She kissed him softly and stroked his cheek. She rested her head on his arm and smiled at him, still caressing his face and chest. I'm sorry for lying. How can you know me so well already? I love that about you. She settled onto his chest and closed her eyes, forcing memories of her time with Dave to be in the forefront of her mind as she drifted off to sleep. I love .............. you She sighs softly and kissed his chest in her sleep.

Dave smiled when she turned in his arms. She pressed into him and he just stayed there with her, holding her. When she pulled back a bit and was smiling that just made him really happy. Their eyes met and he kenw it was a real smile. Their lips met and he felt everything she wanted to say. He reached a hand up and brushed the last few tears from her eyes. They got cuddled up together and very comfortable. He tried not to laugh at her apology. She had no need to be sorry. He understood why she had acted that way. She started to fall asleep and he relaxed. Then he heard a few words that surprised him a little. He looked down at her and she seemed to be asleep. He thought about it. Whether she was asleep or not he was fairly sure she meant it. Then he started to wonder. He really liked her, really cared about her, but he wasn't completely sure if he loved her. Could he go so far as to say that? He just hoped she didn't ask him to say it any time soon because he knew that if he even paused a little she might wonder. He pushed those thoughts away and slowly slid out of bed just long enough to turn off the light, then rejoin her and fall asleep there next to her.

She wrestled all night with her dreams, both good and bad. She did not want the bad dreams, but knew she would never be rid of them completely. She also knew that the coming day was going to be busy and full of questions about her ordeal. She had a test in the morning, but in the afternoon she was going to the Dean of Students office. She did not have an appointment, but would wait until she was seen. She would have to go into her room..... That sounded so foreign to her now, unnatural even. She sighed softly and tried to remember exactly where her business outfits were. She could picture them in the corner where....he...... must have hidden. She shook and took a deep cleansing breath, still sleeping soundly. She smiled as she inhaled his scent, she was truly happy Dave would be with her. She thought of what she would say to the Dean. She needed to stay calm during the meeting, even though she was clearly shaken by her discovery. She knew Dave would be able to help her with that. She thought of everything, she hoped, and opened her eyes slowly to watch Dave sleeping next to her. He held her in his arms gently and she noticed when she moved, he would stroke her hair softly. It was as if he knew what she was thinking and even in his sleep was trying to comfort and protect her. She smiled and kissed his chest softly, trying not to disturb him. His face was soft and serene, he looked so peaceful. He turned his head and a few strands of hair fell over his eyes. She raised her hand slowly and pushed them back, gently stroking his cheek. She wanted to kiss him, but did not want to wake him, so she just watched him sleep. The sun was coming up and she could see daylight outside the window. She wondered if this is what love felt like, and silently asked her Grandmother for guidance. She smiled and closed her eyes as her grandmother's wisdom washed over her. It would be time to get out of his arms soon, and she wanted to savor every moment with him. She held him close and listened to him breathe until he woke.

Dave's night was a very restful one. He felt very comfortable next to her. She put him at ease even if she didn't realise it. When he woke he didn't remember any dreams. His eyes slowly opened and he saw Calleigh looking at him. He smiled and spoke softly. "Good morning" She looked like she was doing a lot better than she had been before they went to bed. He leaned in and kissed her tenderly and his arms tightened around her. He held her close, enjoying every moment. He knew they had to get up soon, but until his alarm sounded he wasn't going anywhere. He would spend every second possible as close to her as possible.

He kissed her a few more times and then the alarm sounded. He reached over her and pressed the button. Then he sighed. They needed to get up, but he really didn't want to. Very slowly and reluctantly he pulled away from her and sat up. He thought about the schedule for the day and what he would have to do and what he would miss when he went with her to see the dean. He had promised to be by her side and he wanted to be there to help her. Anything he could do to assist her would be worth the class time missed.
