Formula 1 Racing

I'm quite a big F1 fan and have been since childhood. However this is the first season I haven't paid to watch it on my cable service.

As a Brit, I'm a massive fan of Lewis Hamilton. It looks like the upgrades brought to Monaco have done their job with a 4th place finish. Let's keep heading in the right direction.

Btw, I cannot stand Verstappen. Arrogant and throws his teddies out of the pram when he doesn't get his own way.

Lewis and George had a strong finish! Looks like they’ve figured some things out for the Silver Arrows. Ferrari had another head scratcher today.

The sport is definitely better when Merc is challenging the Bulls and now that Alonso is strong, it’s made it a fun year.

Seems every driver who wins the championship turns into a bit of a prima Donna! Max is on cruise control for the first half of the season. Be interesting now that they’re going on the European leg and the really fast tracks.

If today had been the old Indianapolis GP, Verstappen would've lapped the field. The longest day in racing is just going to get a LOT longer. It's raining in Charlotte

The longest and greatest! I love Memorial Sunday. It will be a long day in the Queen City for sure. NASCAR needs to go to wet tires!

uggggggh, more Max?!?! @HumpDayHoratio you think RB is going to sweet the entire schedule?
Alonso is the only one really close to challenging. If the upgrades Mercedes made hold then it’s possible Lewis and George can start getting consistent podiums, but as of now, the Bull’s are the team to beat.

Love seeing Merc come in with that large of an upgrade package. Alonso looks in prime form and having Aston in the fight is great, but Stroll is too weak of a driver to allow them to stay in a top Constructors spot, I feel. If LH44 and George can push this car to the limits, I feel like they could pull off 2nd in the Constructors, just seems like there’s NO stopping Horner and the Bulls.

With electric cars in the news EVERY DAY and how they will save the planet, how long will we enjoy the sound and smell of a piston engined F1 racecar? I've seen some E racecars on TV, they remind me of scalextric. An analogy might be the feel of a quartz watch against a Swiss made miniature marvel. Only one has a 'soul', a sense of achievement and wonder.

63M.......If I wanted to travel into the future, I wouldn't start from here.

They’re pushing them for sure, but I don’t see people buying them in mass and the ones that are it’s more of an “it” thing, think Tesla. Every manufacturer has to have one in the stable I guess, so they look relevant.

I noticed Shell was advertising during the 500 for “sustainable“ fuel and Indy was moving to this blend, ostensibly to save the baby seals. It’s all marketing smoke and mirrors. The fuel used in a three hour race is a nano-drop in the bucket compared to the jet fuel one 767 pumps out going coast to coast. Don’t even get me started on the mining process for the batteries that go in these “green” machines!

I agree with you though, nothing compares to the scream of the V8 and V10 F1 cars of the past.

Here’s the Top Gear crew dumping on ‘Lectric cars! Go to the 1:50 mark for the relevant info!

Man, I really wanted to see Fernando win yesterday! Had the team not gambled and kept him on slicks, I think he may have had his shot.

Mad Max pulls a Hat Trick. The Merc upgrades paid off with P2 and P3, Hamilton and Russell respectively. Clean race, no retirements I don’t think.
The two Spaniards never threatened. Ferrari still is a head scratcher. See you in Canada!

Qualifying in the WET! Max gets the pole but Nico snuck in a hot lap but then fucked it up by not getting off the throttle in a Red Flag. He drops out of second position to fifth. Alonzo, Hamilton, Russel round out the top four.

Didn’t hear what the weather was going to be like but If it’s in the wet it’s going to be an interesting race!

Got home late and caught the last few laps of Canada, once again Fernando gave a stellar drive. Looks like Mercedes may finally be coming back, shame about Russell though. Did they say that this win puts Max equal to Senna’s total?

I heard he passed Senna with this.

Yes - good battle. Norris was feisty as well.

Good clean race. The Scuderia has me shaking my head? Mercedes is improving, and Fernando is proving this no fluke. Not sure what happened with Checco, something In qualifying maybe?

I didn’t hear Max had tied Senna till today looking for a pix to post. Heady company for sure. If Red Bull continues on like this for a few years, he’ll easily be right up with Lewis.

Regarding Checo - I have a feeling that he's suffering from classic 2nd driver syndrome. He knows he's not as good a driver as Max (though the gap is marginal as it should be at this level), he knows if it came to hard racing Max is more ruthless, and the team have to back the higher driver. So he's committed, but not hungry, because most of the time being hungry for second place isn't a thing* (especially as he's the only driver that can't console themselves quietly by whispering 'car advantage' to themselves.

As to Max - his psychology is different. Hugely ambitious - his defining characteristic -but also he has that added determination from his maiden Championship. Some racers are happy to say they've done it winning a WDC, but the nature of his win in Abu Dhabi has left him with a victory that enough people question that he still feels he has to prove was deserved. Couple that with an astonishing car and the invincibility of youth, and you have someone at the very top of the game.

Sorry - went a bit youtube commentator for a second 😛

*I'm exaggerating - Alonso for example will fight for second like you wouldn't believe this season.

Would love to see Lando Norris replace Lance Stroll now that Aston Martin is surging. Ain’t gonna happen of course, but Lando drove a gutsy race yesterday and deserves a contending car.
Been rooting for Norris for a while. Think he's just waiting for a decent drive. But is he hungry enough? 🤷‍♂️
