Melinda had always been a solid B student, she got the occasional A on an assignment or test but it just bumped her to a B+ average. College just seemed like torture and her best friend who aced everything he touched didn't make it any better.
One night over a bottle of something blue, he said she just wasn't motivated. His parents had bought him a car when he graduated high school with better than a 3.5 grade point average.
"But I don't want anything," she had pouted. When in truth there was only one thing she really wanted, but she was too afraid to ask.
"Come on surely there is something, all you have to do is get one Fucking A and I'll give you anything in my power to give you, including my car."
She gulped, wondering whether to take him up on his offer. He seemed serious and at the same time he had to think it was impossible or he'd never offer up his cherished car.
"Fine, let's put it in writing."
And so she worked harder than she ever had in her life and when term grades came out she was thrilled that she had not one, but 2 fucking A's.
