Getting Away (closed)

Jara finished her steak, which was well done, much to her surprise, and delicious. She looked across the table at Sarin as he spoke of them almost being on a date. She wasn’t sure how to take that. She very rarely let her guard down mainly because she was a woman in a man’s field, sign of any weakness tended to make others doubt her ability to handle herself. However, the rather shy seeming man on the other side of the table wanted to make her drop her guard, but she couldn’t.

“Look Sarin, you seem like a nice guy. While in another place or time, I might like to get to know you, I cannot drop my guard, not here. There are too many people that would try to attack you and if I was distracted, I might not be able to perform my job to the best of my abilities.” She explained, though it was obvious that she wished things were different.

She leaned back in her seat and downed the rest of her drink and nodded about the walk.

“I agree. I’ve been on nonstop flights lately. Though you’ve picked a hell of a planet to have a stroll on. Do you ever plan on telling me why you decided to this god forsaken blip in the universe?”

Finishing up his steak Sarin was mostly quiet as he finished up the medium rare steak. He was eating it up loving how it tasted. Hearing the regret in Jara's voice he said, "Why can't you when we're secure in a place just us?" The question hung in the air. Before she could answer he was laying down credits to pay.

He was suddenly moving like a man with purpose. Sarin started to go down hallways, taking lefts and rights. All of the glitz and glamour of the upper layers to Nar Shadaa started to peel away like a an onion. At first it looked like the planet was some kind of industrial giant with man-made metal and concrete walls that sprawled upward.

Jara would have noticed the smell of blaster fire and smoke was becoming more prominent. Eventually they were somewhere two or three floors down. C-Sec, a security firm on the planet, patrolled the area but gangs were still rampant. Spice addiction ran rampant here.

A lot of lower income families and people were here in various dwellings that looked more like apartments rather than homes. Criminal gangs were in force. They were shaking down people for money like tax collectors of old.

Five people were surrounding a teenaged guy and gal. They were older teens, but only one looked legal. The five people were two humans, a quarren and a rodian. Each wore various red and black pieces of clothing. It alternated between their jackets, boots and the like. Sarin had stopped. He observed the group then looked back to Jara, who he hoped caught up. A knowing look was tossed to her.

Then he went to a spot grabbing a simple piece of small debris then tossed it at the Quarren. The debris bounced off the alien with the various tendrils that had an aquatic theme despite the skin being orange with various dark spots. "PICK ON SOMEONE YOUR OWN SIZE!" he yelled out to the group.

In turn they turned and started to pull out blasters. Apparently all the swagger Sarin had immediately left him as he went running for cover. He dove behind a large crate waiting for blaster fire to hit the surface.

“Shit.” Jara jumped up from the table and immediately ran after Sarin. She knew better than to call after him, she didn’t want to bring attention to him or the fact that she was chasing him.

As she followed him deeper and deeper into the city, she could smell the smoke of a blasters and pulled out her own. She ran with him until he stopped and just before she questioned him, she saw the situation in front of them. She wasn’t much of a crusade fighter, but even she didn’t want to see two presumed innocents go down this way.

She wanted to slug him when he yelled out the gang, drawing their fire to them. Jara ducked behind a concrete support column and then managed to roll just out of their line of fire. She popped up her scope and manage to nail all of the gang but one in the head.

“Get the hell out of here!” she yelled at the kids who took off running. The one gang member ran in the opposite direction too quickly for Jara to get a shot in. She sighed heavily when he left. She had gotten nicked by one of the blaster shots and had blood running down her arm. She went to where Sarin was and loomed over him.

“What in the hell was that?!”

Sarin did not expect that to go the way it did. He rose up to see four shots that took down most of the gang. Within seconds the straggler was running, as were the would be victims. Then the last one went down.

Rising from his spot Sarin spoke, "I had them where I wanted them." He was moving toward Jara. He looked at the arm then started to pull off a sleeve from his top. Then he tore down the center. His arms bore a similar looking scar or two. Taking the cloth he began to wrap up Jara's wound. "Are you okay?"

Jara looked at Sarin angrily. “What the hell are you playing at? You hired me to be your body guard, I took care of the threat. If you have another agenda, you had better fill me in on it.” She said. His arms showed her that he wasn’t the dainty innocent she had believed him to be. She let him wrap her arm, though it angered her than any of this happened.

“Answers, I want them now, or I deliver you to this gang’s leader.” She told him seriously, looking him dead in the eye.

Once he was satisfied with Jara's mendings Sarin nodded to her. Then he presented both of his hands. No words were said. Jara had offered to turn him into the leader of the gangs. The slaying of five could have been pinned on him easily. If she was going to follow through with the threat, it was now.

Jara wanted to punch him in the face for his reaction to his words. She didn’t like being kept in the dark, especially when it caused her to have to shoot people. She looked at him with annoyance and sheathed her blaster.

“You’re on your own.” She told him and walked away.

"But I paid you," Sarin moved to catch up to Jara. He looked at her, "What is it? You even said we could date if things weren't so weird. Now, you want to shoot me. Tell me what happened," he asked figuring that the anger flowed in the woman. Moving up with her he waited for an answer.
