GLP-1 the wonder drug.

Like they did with Fen-phen after it was too late.
Nope, not like that. They've learned (that's what science does....learn), which is why side effects are more openly given to patients.

If someone talked to their doctor, they'd understand that.

It's still too new to have any real world data on what happens if you stop but most people understand that once you start on it, you'll probably be on it forever because you haven't changed your shitty eating habits at all.

As for me, I hate taking pills, even taking my daily vitamin suck dog balls, so ain't no forking way I'd go the Ozempic route when cutting calories and going Paleo works perfectly.
They already have a pill for it instead of the needle. I guess they already had it but wanted to see if people were desperate enough to inject themselves. :)

I thought we were comparing the number of patients with limp dicks vs. the number of fat people.
Yep. And you haven't actually provided those numbers, so I was waiting on the data.

So you trust the government and big pharma to keep you safe. :)

I trust my doctor to provide proper information and ask him questions when I'm not clear regarding that information.

Now that the current administration has fucked our scientific community, I'll be relying on the WHO more.

So when Fen-phen was new they should have warned users about leathal side affects not yet discovered. Russian roulette. Bang. :)

“”Repeat after me: pharma being shit does not mean magic beans cure cancer.
—Ben Goldacre[1]
Big Pharma is the pejorative nickname given to the pharmaceutical industry. Critics of the industry often use this nickname when discussing abuses by the industry, including:

Trying to suck every penny out of the pockets of the sick, injured, dying, and hypochondriacs[note 1]
Inventing new maladies so people will buy more drugs (as opposed to inventing better drugs so more people would become addicts)
Censoring alternative treatments that would be cheaper or more effective, rather than patenting and industrializing them (much as proponents of free energy claim censorship by energy companies, without basis)
Renaming old maladies so people will think their conditions are more serious, making them more willing to pay higher prices for prescriptions[2]
There are scientifically literate criticisms of Big Pharma. However, the overwhelming majority of criticism comes from non-scientific bases. Many alternative medicine merchants (such as homeopaths and naturopaths) stridently blame most or all opposition on Big Pharma rather than, say, a lack of scientific evidence for their claims.

Viagra peaked at around 5bil annually.
Ok. And when was that? What was inflation then compared to now? That would give you approximate numbers for then....before it went generic and dropped dramatically in price.

That doesn't tell you anything about current users of the drug.

Very simple minded and stupid response.

It's not about what they shouldve done then. It's about what it helps them do now.

Most drugs are not curative. :)

Vaccines are curative for all practical purposes. The disease isn't cured, but the public's ability to overcome severe reactions to the disease is mitigated.

That one class of drugs. Most drugs alleviate symptoms while been used. :)

Glp-1 aren't meant to be used for the rest of your life. Whole arpy is correct in that behavior also needs to change, doctors won't prescribe it for the rest of their life based on the FDAs recos.

Neither are proton pump inhibitors yet they are prescribed ad infinitum. :)

They are prescribed for the use as recommended.

If patients discuss and trust their doctors, they won't be.

And no, doctors are no longer paid to drug the shit out of their patients......that would be currently against the law.

Back to glp-1....

Weight loss maintenance after discontinuing GLP-1 : r/ZepboundAfter stopping a GLP-1 medication, most people experience increased appetite, cravings, and significant weight regain (often 2/3 of lost weight within a year) as hunger signals return and metabolism adjusts, while blood sugar control can also worsen, highlighting the need for sustained lifestyle changes, a gradual tapering plan, and ongoing support from a healthcare provider to manage this chronic condition effectively.

That's up there with tobacco. :)
