I feel for you. I'm Italian and our holiday, (Columbus' Day) was wiped out in favor of MLK, Jr. He was a great man but I need the day off in October more than I do one in January.

St. Patrick's Day isn't a big holiday in the Irish Catholic community anyway. It's really only that big of a thing in the United States, I suppose originally because people wanted to find a way to hang onto their ethnic identities. Now everyone just uses it as an excuse to get hammered.

Though my family were Protestant when they left (in the 17th and 18th centuries), my Jacobite sympathies and the fact that I look terrible in orange but wonderful in green override, were I to celebrate St. Patrick's Day at least - which I do not, as I have no interest in getting drunk or attending services, being a tee-totalling heathen just like the Lord intended.
