A few years ago

I decided to leave the office for a decent cup of coffee. It was about 3:00 p.m.

So there's this small independent coffee shop down the road. I pull in, park and head though the door. The place is empty. Just me and the owner.

"Can I get a cup of black coffee?" I asked as I walked to the counter.

"You know, I knew that what you wanted as soon as you pulled into the lot" was the owner's reply as he handed me a cup of fresh brewed coffee.

I sat at the counter and we talked shop. He puts one shot of espresso in each pot. It makes for a truly delicious coup of coffee.

I took the owners reply as a complement.

How about a cup of black coffee with one shot?
