Halloween Contest Support Thread

Well, I can't say I am unhappy with my scores - am not overly excited about the fact that my best story and the other long one didn't even qualify, but such is life.

Congrats to the winners.

princessjennie - hi! Read your entry, can't remember if I commented, but I do remember enjoying it immensely - the odd Aussie-ism was divine!

What I find most interesting about the sweeps is watching entries from previous contests. I have several that have not gained any votes since their respective contests closed, yet they continue to lose votes in subsequent sweeps. That really makes no sense to me at all.

I figure they search across the competition rather than check each individual entry by following IP addresses of voters and patterns of votes. Eg. Reader X consistently voted '2' for 20 stories. Once they discover a troll voter, maybe they remove all votes from that IP address?

congratulations to the winners...

my hope for my story had been i get an H, and i am so close to it, but a little bit below... ah well...

anyway, lots of great stories, shame i didn't have time to read them all, will see if i can read a few more in the next days, even though the contest is over...

Winners list is up - Congratulations to the winners :D

Ended up with a score of 4.71, 76 surviving votes, and just over 3500 views. Middle of the pack, and far better than I expected.

Congratulations to Pelaam, loganforester and tickledkitty!

Finished with score of 4.52, only 23 votes and 916 views.

Congrats again, especially to tickledkitty and loganforester.

Finished with 4.85 and 20 votes on Irresistible, 4.82 and 22 votes on Cascade, 4.71 and 140 votes on My little witch, 4.67 and 27 votes on Underbelly and 4.43 an 21 votes on Pandemonium.

I don't know -- I'm glad to get rid of troll votes, but on the other hand, once you start throwing votes out, the contest results really are in the hands of the sweepers, aren't they?

Not quite.

After the sweeps one of my stories was at 75 votes and 4.77, high enough to place I believe. Four votes just before midnight and I'm down to 4.73 and out.

I like the contests as a bit of fun, but the voting patterns I've observed have left a bad taste in the mouth.

...and the non-negative post.

Congrats to the winners and everyone taking part.

There were some cracking stories in there I enjoyed thoroughly.

The Authors' Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest - Claim Now!

Last Place Contest

Rules for Last Place contest.
****

Order for coming last:

Lowest voted rating for a genuine attempt at a story multiplied by number of votes if less than 25 divided by 25.

So - if rating is 3.00 but only 12 votes the score would be

3.00 x 12 / 25 = 1.44

If rating is 3.00 but more than 25 votes, the rating stays the same.

I suggest ignoring number of reads except as a tie breaker when least number of reads would *win*.
****

Since the 'winner' actually wins nothing, it is pointless to cheat. To enter, all you have to do is declare your rating and votes at the time the real contest is decided.

Participation is entirely voluntary.

Og is banned from entry for life because he finds coming last too easy and is a past multiple winner of last places.

For the last place contest, 1 votes are very valuable and 5s are bombs.

Og (whose decision is final unless you all gang up on me)

Well, I might've screwed up as usual. Because one night I fiddled with some buttons and had the voting turned off... if that disqualifies me then okay. However I did notice the sweeps did take effect even when the voting was off. If this means ineligibility then that's fine. If not, then I'll present some numbers.

I ended up fairly low. Didn't lose any votes last night but had a few more reads. Final results: ave. 4.38 votes 416 reads 39513
Congrats to the winners. Well deserved wins.

How low can I go?

The final scores for my stories:

Ghostly Interventions:
Rating 4.33, Votes 9, Views 2081, PCs 3 (by Og formula = 1.5588)

Hitchhiker:
Rating 4.49, Votes 39, Views 9663, PCs 5

Three Graces of Maidstone:
Rating 4.40, Votes 15, Viewws 4135, PCs 7 (by Og formula = 2.64)

and Jeanne D'Artois' entry Haunted Shawl:
Rating 3.90, Votes 10, Views 3041, PCs 3 (by Og formula = 1.56)

My 15 x 50 stories Ghostly Interventions would be a reasonable contender for the Authors' Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest if I wasn't permanently disqualified.

Thank you to all those who voted. Thank you to all those who left PCs and sent Feedback.

Og

Congrats to the winners......and well...winners (of ogg's last place contest.)

Congrats to the winners. My entry, Grave Lovers, finished well out of contention, but much too high to be a contender in the last place (tm) contest.

Any claimants for the Last Place?

Or are you all too shy?

Og
Okay, I'll go first. ;)

I ended with a score of 4.21 with 48 votes at the time.
The score is a bit different now but votes are the same.

Last call for claimants for the Authors' Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest.

The "winner" will be announced tomorrow evening GMT.

The Receptionist and the Zombie got a 3.95/22 votes. Not too good out of over 6000 views. Obviously, I write to a much more sophisticated audience (I keep telling myself.)
