HAPPY HAPPY - damn can you handle no criticism ;) OLD FART :D :)

HAVE a great one

Am I too late?

Well even if I am

Happy Birthday!

have a hug and a kiss and I hope you had anargumentitive day!

From The Blue Pen to The Pure One

Hey, what kind of ubermensch would I be if I neglected to wish my nemesis a happy birthday?

Want to have an celebratory argument? [note the chillingly telling absence of an extraneous, erroneous "e"]

Love,

your arch-enemy

Is this sentence correct?

He was an habitual liar.

;)

Incorrect. Use 'a' as the indefinite article in front of a word with a voiced 'h'. Use 'an' when there's an unvoiced 'h', as in

He was an honorable liar.
A historical novel. An homage to motherhood.

A happy birthday.

wow!

i thought it was merely my critics who were legion!

thanks to seacat, cantdog, shereads, the literate, dar~(whom I shall meet sometime?), cloudy, minsue again, everhot honey123, lady Jeanne, charleyH, saintly EL, Mademoiselle (l'instrument de vengeance), and of course dr mab one of the core who helps make the SDC work.

In case any care to indulge: thumbs up, or thumbs down to:

None of them have finished their essays.

Lately away and lately offering my congratulations.

I trust the day brought good cheer.

Ooooh, ooooh, another late one here!

Pure, I hope you had a great day. Best wishes for the year to come.

Lou

P.S. Thank you for all you do, even when you do it on purpose. ;) :rose:

Awkward as hell and I don't like it, but I'm way too tired to try to decide if it's technically correct.

Neither her eyes nor her hair (has/have) much appeal for me.

I much prefer:
Not one of them finished their essays. Or None have finished their essays.

I've gotta stop reading this thread after work when I'm tired and braindead. That's just cruel. :D

I'm in the very very late line but I wanted to wish you a Belated Bday Pure.
Hope you had a wonderful day and have many more wonderful ones :)

hugs
Moonlight

None...is None...are

"It is a mistake to suppose that the pronoun is sing. only & must at all costs be followed by sing. verbs &c. ; the OED explicitly states that pl. construction is commoner." Fowler, A Dictionary of Modern English Usage, first addition.

Neither...is Neither...are

"The number of the adhective & pronoun is properly singular..." --loc. cit.

So: "Neither her eyes nor her hair has much appeal for me." is correct.

Yeah. I had to look em up.

Now just shut up and eat your cake, Pure, or we're all leaving.
