Harry Potter

I have to ask.. isn't Literotica a site for original works? If you are going to write a fanfiction why not just post it on a Harry Potter fanfic site. [/B]

First time trying to use the "quote" feature, sorry in advance if I botch it ...

I personally haven't posted any of my fanfiction on Literorica. (mostly because I assumed that the Celeb section was about the actual actors ... my Obi-Wan fanfic is about Obi-Wan, not Ewan, because it's Obi-Wan that I drool over <g>).

But I have posted plenty of fanfic elsewhere and I feel it's just as valid a form of writing as a story using original characters.

Actually, as a writer, I find fanfiction to be even _more_ challenging, specifically because the characters aren't my own. Everyone who reads it is going to be as familiar with the source material as I am, and if I get it wrong, they're gonna know. And they're gonna waste no time telling me.

I like, as a sort of creative exercise, to try to capture the style and feel of another author's work. Spider Robinson, for instance, or H.P. Lovecraft -- I've tried both and gotten very good feedback. Except that after prepping myself by reading nothing but Lovecraft for a week solid, my dreams turned really creepy ...

Really I'm just not into the pedophilia of the whole thing with Harry.

Literotica does not allow pedo/kiddie porn stories here. I think that should be obvious by now.

There is NOTHING sexual about the books or his character.

There is also NOTHING sexual or sexy about Lord of the Rings, but many different people have different tastes out there.

harry Potter is a kid but they could have some fun at the school

The original post to this thread was the concept that it was later in years and the "cast" of Harry Potter were "grown up kids" of legal age.

(Though I don't care for these types of stories anyway. I feel that, even though minor actor is "grown up" for the story, wouldn't the writer and reader still be lusting after a minor?!?!?!?!)

Yeah, I think that this is true. It would probably be approved if they weren't actually minors, but it'd still be weird to me.

I am in agreement sorry I did miss that in my haste I consider my self chastised as long as it is by you

I had a fleeting thought while reading these posts about a possible Narnia story with Susan and Peter, the oldest two, perhaps during their reign in The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe while they were grown. Does anyone think that this would be inapropriate?

Owning your writing is easy put it in an envelope and seal it mark on it what it is and address it to yourself then posts it
This is the easiest way to copy write your work when it arrives do not open it but if you think your work has been plagiarised you have a date at witch is admissible as to when you wrote it

That's always a good idea if you don't have the twenty bucks to go "copyright" your story/idea/brilliantplantocureworldhunger

I love english money. cept somehow when I'm spending it I don't realize how far down my bank account is getting...

I agree that fanfiction is a legitimate form of writing, and yes, it SHOULD be difficult because the characters aren't yours. If it's difficult, that means you're actually attempting to stay within the boundaries of the character's established personality..
I hate to sound like I'm bashing down so hard on the Harry fans. Go ahead and write fanfiction to your heart's content, everyone should! I wrote fanfiction for almost 6 years, although it was for a different community. So stop thinking I'm bashing you. :p
Literotica is a great place no matter what you're interested in, and I am glad we're open to so many "different interests". I'm not trying to say that slash stories should remain on slash sites. All I was saying is that my personal preference is that people not take a character who isn't innately sexy and try to make them sexy- it kinda takes you out of the bounds of their established personality, and then how do you really know you're writing about them at all? ;)

Killer Muffin says:

Hey there,
I stole this from KillerMuffin on another thread in the authors hangout, thought some of you might like to know.

"According to US copyright law parodies are illegal without consent of the copyright holder. Fan fiction is a parody of whatever movie, book, show, whatnot that it was ripped off of. Fan fiction is illegal and fan fiction writers can be forced to remove publications of such things.

However, it's a bad idea to sue your fans. They get pissy and your whole fanbase gets pissy. Fan fiction is all over the 'Net and is generally considered harmless or a necessary evil. They put up with it for the same reason RIAA and the recording Industry is pulling their hair out over peer to peer file swapping. It can't be stopped without massive international litigation that takes years.

Mostly, from the few fanfic sites I've looked over, they don't make money from it. It's just fans doing what fans do, that's generally good for business. Most copyright holders look the other way so long as no one is making a buck or two off of their creations.

The site's personal take on the matter is ???"

easy way around that is change the names of every thing IE make Harry a girl call her hariot or somthing

My story has nothing to do with LORD OF THE RINGS it was just an example for how i would like it and i think the idea of harry potter having sex is horrific its not the fact that it is a fantasy story its the fact that its a character from a kids movie and thats not very erotic its just what i think thats all whats the point of getting upset about it ? and why bring one of my ideas into anther thread ? GROW UP. and if you read my thread clearly you would see that the main reason why i didnt like the idea was becasue hes a kid and thats A. not allowed on this site ( kiddie porn and B. i dont like it.....

What the fuck?

I dunno, Tiggs, I think that this thread and the "lord of the rings" thread have both taken twists off their original context and twisted into way weird threads indeed...maybe we should start ignoring them.
