KJGirlie said:I have to ask.. isn't Literotica a site for original works? If you are going to write a fanfiction why not just post it on a Harry Potter fanfic site. [/B]
First time trying to use the "quote" feature, sorry in advance if I botch it ...
I personally haven't posted any of my fanfiction on Literorica. (mostly because I assumed that the Celeb section was about the actual actors ... my Obi-Wan fanfic is about Obi-Wan, not Ewan, because it's Obi-Wan that I drool over <g>).
But I have posted plenty of fanfic elsewhere and I feel it's just as valid a form of writing as a story using original characters.
Actually, as a writer, I find fanfiction to be even _more_ challenging, specifically because the characters aren't my own. Everyone who reads it is going to be as familiar with the source material as I am, and if I get it wrong, they're gonna know. And they're gonna waste no time telling me.
I like, as a sort of creative exercise, to try to capture the style and feel of another author's work. Spider Robinson, for instance, or H.P. Lovecraft -- I've tried both and gotten very good feedback. Except that after prepping myself by reading nothing but Lovecraft for a week solid, my dreams turned really creepy ...
