Jason is the son of a man he's never known.
When the father passes when he's 26, he's notified that's he's to be there for the reading of the will.
There he finds out that his late mother was the first of four wives.
Then Jason, the two (ex)wives and his current trophy wife, find out that Jason has been left the entire estate and their alimony agreements don't extend past the old man's passing. The women glare at him with pure hatred but they are also wondering just how much they can manipulate the young man.
"So, what sort of agreement can we make, young man? I can't lose my New York apartment."
I've never done a harem story and the idea seems interesting but it needs a twist. Thoughts?

What if he gets the trophy wife as part of the will? I know, kinda, uh, not legal, but it could be his express wish that his son have somebody, because he's been keeping tabs on him and the kid is kinda miserable, and the father thinks it'll make him happy.

Trophy wife is younger than Jason, I assume?

Jason tries to learn about his mysterious father from the three widows. (They all insist on being called widows, even the exes.) Does Daddy have some mystery in his background? Is he a Russian sleeper agent? Alien? DB Cooper? Secretly the rightful Holy Roman Emperor?

Trophy Wife is pregnant.
Dad was smart and put everything in an irrevocable trust, so even if the exes tried contesting the will, all his assets are protected.
Trophy wife realizes, it's actually the dead guys baby, and that if she wants anything more than the pittance left to her, she's going to have to seduce Jason.

Why does everybody go to the damn preggo/baby crap?

Fastest way to ruin a story.

Because a lot of people like it? It's a popular theme, and in a case like this, could provide some intrigue.

Like, maybe the trophy wife isn't pregnant, but realizes she might be able to get everything if she can have the son impregnate her, then she pretends it was the dead dude's, since the inheritance goes to his offspring, and the son is the only one that anyone knows about, so if the trophy wife can have a kid, she gets half. Admittedly, it's very soap opera, but this whole thing screams soap opera anyway, why not lean into it?

sometimes non legally binding instructions like "I'd like you to take care of Virginia. She will know how to take care of you," and put in a sealed "side letter" placed with the will.
There might be a matching mystery letter for Virginia that says "Sonny will look after you. You look after Sonny."

Give everyone backstories and motivations.

Jason does something he loves, but it doesn't pay the bills (draws online web comics, sews ren faire clothing that he sells for too little, etc.), and his girlfriend gives him a week to move out because he is never going to do anything with his life. The next day, he finds out about his biological father and the reading of the will.

Jason's father lived in an entirely different state from his son, and (attempting to save money) Jason drives to his destination in his beat-up vehicle. The old car breaks down, and he arrives only minutes before the appointment. The three women have complex interactions with each other, with none of them mirroring each other's attitude (one woman is disdainful to a woman who appears meek and quiet in return, etc.).

The will says that his father is leaving him "his entire estate, including but not limited to savings, investments, real estate, clothing, and pets." The will does not include any list of these assets, and the lawyer only knows vague facts, like a possible horse farm. Jason asks the lawyer if he'll help get everything assessed for sale, intending to use the money to stay with his girlfriend back home. Jason also asks if the lawyer can recommend a hotel. The lawyer hands Jason a ring that acts as an electronic key to the doors at his father's house, pointing out the assessment will take a while and that the house is technically already his.

The trophy wife offers to give Jason a ride to his new house and, during the ride, reveals that she considers herself one of the assets Jason now owns and is actually enthusiastic about the idea. He also learns that Jason's father was simultaneously controlling and excessively generous to his ex-wives. For example, in addition to alimony, one wife is paid to live at and maintain the horse ranch Jason now owns.

Jason's ring not only unlocks exterior doors but also opens locked rooms and cabinets and starts vehicles. Jason also discovers that he and his father wear the same size clothes.

I like the premise - and three is an optimal number for storytelling. It is also remarkably similar to a story in Greek mythology.

How about each woman offers him something entirely different - almost like the three competing Greek goddesses offering prizes to Paris to name them the fairest of the goddesses: 1) Hera promised power - perhaps political ambitions, 2) Athena offered wisdom and skill in war - which in today's climate might be business savvy, 3) Aphrodite tempted him with the most beautiful mortal woman - Helen of Sparta.

Rather than make the ex-wives the (sexual) prize, have the ex-wives offer him a prize distinct from themselves.

What is your view of a harem?

Jason doesn't want everything. Or anything. He's content with his simple, austere, nearly solitary life in the country and isn't comfortable at all with the prospect of total change before him.

He liquidates the entire estate, selling off all properties and assets, stashes what money he thinks he'll need for the next 50 or so years, donates the rest to various charities, sends the Concubines on their way and returns to his former lifestyle knowing he'll never need to work again.

where's the sex in that?

Instead of a "get", it could be the old man's dying wish. "It is my hope that my wife Bambi and my son Jason live together in the mansion where they can best take care of one another and get through their grief (or Jason's shock) as they transition into a new life without me."

Then, the ex's eyeball the pair, knowing just how large that mansion is, it's many spare bedroom's and the pool/jacuzzi in the backyard.
