Hell of a Highschool IC

Leaning against the doorway for a few moments, Rose listened for any sounds. But it was dead quiet by now. Somewhere upstairs there was some yelling and screaming, but the hallway was silent. She assumed by now the creatures (as she was now considering them, not human beings) would have got up the stairs, or used the elevators and would be spreading across other levels. Still, she wondered if there would be a cure, or some other vaccine available later. What if people killed the creatures outright, and then two days later the military swooped in and everything was back to normal.

Sure, they couldn't just let themselves get turned without fighting back. But reversal of this condition might exist, might it not?

"If we can, we should find survivors and then get out of here. Or, try to secure somewhere and wait it out. But apart from the cafeteria, and the kitchens, and perhaps a few of the supply rooms, nothing else will keep us alive long. If you two have a place secure away from school, that might be a good start."

After not hearing a sound, she took a deep breath and opened the door slightly. Looking out into the hallway, she noted the pools of blood and drag marks down the hallway. There were a few bodies, but by now they were mostly missing limbs or internal organs.

There was a few hallways, and a flight of stairs between the Library and the Autoshop.

The fact that Rose was the only one, out of Akira and Leo to have taken down one of the zombies, she was happy if the boys led the way.

As soon as they got to the first corner, they could hear some shuffling around it. And Rose had been lightly walking in a way as to not get her shoes covered in the muck and blood on the floor. By now her mind was beginning to wonder how her immediate group of friends was going...and her brother. He should have been in Art class, one of the rooms between there and the Library, luckily enough.

Lily

Lily continued staring at the desk, had she seen Mrs Cooper this morning? She couldn't remember. Turning she walked quickly to Kevin joining him in the aisle. Smling awkwardly she looked over her shoulder, "tell me more on the zombie things?"

She continued to look along the aisle as kevin began explaining, hopefully one of those kids would be alive she thought, having the security cameras would be an advantage.

"do you think the others are ok?" she asked. The library was at the front of the school and if the corridors were full of infected students it would be a challenge.

Akira followed rose out into the hall.

"i agree with you that we must stick together but we need a place that we can defend until we know the full situation. i say we make our way to the library as planned then figure out a stronger course of action."

Akira had seen plenty of zombie films...after all high school of the dead was his favorite anime for more reasons then just a zombie flick. but aside from his kendo skills Akira thought he would really be dead weight to any group. He had never really driven a car just a few dirtbikes and motorcycles, he wasnt skilled at survival or tactics. Hell if these people knew he was just making this shit up as he went they would probably already ditch him. but the also knew a strong hand would be required to fight these undead.

"by the way im akira."

Crazy Kev

He chuckled one of his mad chuckles,

"I think that some of them will be fine, others clearly aren't."

He ran his finger over the spine of a book,

"The other type of undead, is kept alive by electric impulses which is still active in the medula oblangata, their movements stiff because of rigor mortis, the person inside dead as the brain is not working. Only the animal brain driven by the virus which caused it to stay alive to feed. Strange thing is that habbits remains, they will go to places where they went regularly, say like the jocks would head for the sport fields and wander around there. If they can find their way home? That is another question."

Lily

Lily listened to Kevin trying to take everything in.

"So they are actually zombies?" she asked still not believing they were in this kind of situation.

Walking back to the computer banks, she stretched a little, her socks helping her not make a sound as she walked. Sitting down she began to spin on her chair, a habit she had never grew out of.

"I know i don't know others, even you. But i don't like waiting it just seems a waste." Frowning she looked back at Kevin, "Shouldn't we get supplies together?...or something along those lines?"

Lily knew she hadn't a clue, but from the one zombie movie she had seen hopefully she would be able to help out and not be a burden to the others. Looking at the clock on the wall it only read 10:45 am, was that it? it seemed they had been waiting here a life time.

Gazing at Kevin once more, Lily smiled awkwardly looking down at her hands she tried to make the situation better, with her pathetic attempt at small talk, "Erm... don't we have a class together?"

Crazy Kev

He felt sorry for her, this had to be a lot to take in,

"Zombies is actually a product from Taihitian folklore bound to Voudoun."

He grinned,

"Aren't you the one supposed to tell me all of this? I'm just the insane guy nobody likes."

He pulled out a book named Midieval Weapons and started to page through it.

"Right now moving out while the gates are locked and us just being two would be an even bigger waste. If you are really hungry I have some beef sticks..."

He tilted his head to listen, there was shuffling outside in the hallway,

"I am not sure, what classes do you take?"

Lily tried pronouncing it but gave up, "folklore bound... oh i give up" she smiled.
she looked at Kevin in silence, his statement repeating in her head, 'insane guy nobody likes.' shaking her head she looked to the window as muttered, "I don't think your that insane."

She shuffled in her seat, "Oh its ok thank you, i'm not hungry just thinking about the others, maybe there is some water or something in Mrs Coopers office?" she looked to the empty counter, hopefully Mrs Cooper hadn't been infected.

"What you looking at?" she asked curiously as she watched Kevin flick through a book, she gasped in surprise as she saw weapons covering the pages, shivering she walked back to the computer seat.

"Classes, I'm meant to be taking Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Ethics." she ran a hand through her hair as she sighed, "They tried signing me up to gym, but as you can see." she smiled, "I like books better."

Reaching the first set of stairs, Rose carefully looked up around the corner. Something up there must have been bleeding, because there was a slow trickle of blood from the top all the way to the flat section half way. Taking each step slowly, she held her breath. For some reason she felt as though there was too much noise when she breathed.

What are you going to do if you see one? Run? Fight?

What if there is more than one?

Shaking her head slowly, she forced the thought from her mind. Cross that bridge when it comes. Unfortunately that bridge loomed up in front of her sooner than expected. She froze. Her entire body went rigid, and each muscle seemed to turn into concrete. There were sounds coming from up there, like someone was eating corn off the cob. Or as if someone was tearing into some deep fried drumsticks. A shadow on the wall indicated that something was crouching and swaying from side to side, whilst it dug into what looked to be a garbage bag from the silhouette.

Soon it was joined by another shadow. This one stayed standing, as if listening or watching for something.

Looking back at the guys, she tossed her head upwards and held her finger to her lips to indicate silence. Then she held up two fingers.

Leo Storm

Leo raised an arm and covered his eyes as the welder kicked on, turning away slightly. He blinked and turned away from the welder, casting his gaze across the room. Stepping forward, he picked up a solid-seeming metal pipe. Nothing too heavy. He preferred staying light on his feet. He knealt down and slid his knife into his boot before rising to his feet again, turning back around now that the welder turned off.

He blinked again and followed Rose out into the hall, feet barely making a sound on the floor. He held the pipe reverse-style along his back to avoid it getting caught on anything. He turned his head to keep an eye behind them as they walked. He didn't want those things anywhere near their backs.

He slipped quietly into the first stairwell, content with letting Rose lead for the moment. He was always more of a follower anyway. He liked doing his own thing just as he liked letting everyone else do theirs.

He didn't have the patience to explain his reasoning to anyone else, either.

His eyes went to the shadows on the walls coming from the next floor. Two figures. Rose soon confirmed, holding up two fingers. He nodded, stepping forward. They had to get by them, and he wasn't waiting to chance them leaving or more showing up. His foot touched the first stair, avoiding the blood dripping down from above. The standing shadow made a noise and turned away.

Another few steps and he was on the landing halfway up the stairs. He knealt down, holding up a hand to the two below him. The one standing was facing away from him, the one kneeling down was feasting on a student. He almost grimaced at the sight, but that was when it looked up and saw him.

He was on his feet and flying up the stairs three at a time in a mere second, kicking the one facing away from him to its knees and placing himself right next to the one by the body. He spun around, the pipe flicking around and connecting with its face with a dull, metallic thud, the weakened spine snapping immediately. The other one turned around and tried standing, so he planted a boot on its chest and pushed it into the ground again, watching it for a few moments.

Its flesh was already starting to sag and rot, its eyes were clouded over and its jaws parted and snapped at him ferally. He slid his knife into an eye socket swiftly. The snapping stopped and the arms fell limp. He tilted his head, removing the blade carefully and rising to his feet again.

"Severing the spine or destroying the brain works," he commented under his breath.

A corner of his mouth tilted up into a vague grin.

"Though, that works for everything."

He turned to see if the other two were with him still. They had to move. He didn't know how well these...zombies...could hear. Something might have heard that.

Running up the stairs, Rose barely stopped to examine his handy work before taking a place at the closest corner. She peeked around slowly and saw that the hallway was empty enough. Only a few bodies littered the floor.

"Effective, but still brutal...please don't tell me you are starting to enjoy this?" Rose's tone indicated that she wasn't trying to be serious, but the thought did cross her mind. What if they started to separate the age old ethics and morals of not killing another human. Was it a slow downhill roll into becoming less human, just by surviving...or more human.

Giving him no time to reply, or for her own mind to continue, she turned around the corner and proceeded to sneak to the first classroom. The door was closed, and she couldn't tell if anything was inside the room. Listening, she opened it slowly and waited for something to attack. But nothing happened. The room was empty. All the students must have left when the bell rang.

Moving to the next room, she did the same. But something caused her to stop. Something inside stirred.

Looking down the hallway, the Library sign could be seen at the end of it.

Lily

Lily turned when she heard footsteps outside, 'was it footsteps ? Or her imagination?' she turns to Kevin "did you hear something?"

She curiously walked to the door and placed her ear against it listening for any more but so far nothing. Frowning she stared at the door hopefully the others would be ok, it would be better when they were all in a group.

Walking to mrs cooper's desk lily leaned over looking at the computer it was still logged in, "hey come see this?" she told Kevin waving a hand at him. Sitting down she opened up the computer, seemed mrs cooper had a thing for erotic stories, blushing a little lily closed the link and looked through the desktop. "shall we try .... This?" she clicked the link and was surprised when a list of students and I.d photo's opened up. Scrolling through she wondered how many of them could actually now be called students.

Crazy Kev

He nodded,

"Yes I did hear something."

He watched her listen at the door, then move away, he waited patiently, no need to go out there if he was rather safe in here. He moved over when Lily called him, he gave a small smirk at the first link Lily opened and the second link proved to be some sort of data base. A link caught his attention and without thinking he placed his hand over Lily's on the mouse, closed the data base and opened the link named Calendar, he stood up and looked at the notes, it was reminders for every day, basically a schedular. He pointed at the screen,

"She had a meeting with Mr Ronalds, I doubt that she would be safe in the principle's office, it is basically at the end off this hallway and being teachers they would have come out to see what the comotion is about...you can figure out what may have happened."

There was another sound at the door and he grabbed the window pole where it leaned against the wall and stood ready.

Lily

Lily froze when she felt Kevin's hand on top of hers, watching the computer screen she frowned a little when the schedule came up.
Turning a little she looked at Kevin, "true she is probably one of them now." not that lily minded, mrs cooper had a thing for staring and not the nice kind, but she did let students hang out in the middle of class without mentioning anything.

Lily jumped when she heard another noise, without thinking she hid behind Kevin, peering over his shoulder she whispered, "the door is locked right?" she swallowed nervously and her grip tightened on the back of Kevin's top, as she stared at the door....

Akira walked up behind rose and tapped her on the shoulder motioning for her to move back away from the door. without speaking he simply pointed to the library and started walking toward it.

Crow bar raise he tries the door only to find it locked.

"if anyones in there alive open up. theres 3 people out here. non of us are bitten and we are armed. please open up."

Crazy Kev

"I didn't lock the door and neither did you..."

The doorhandle wiggled and a person called out,

"Godamit!"

He rushed over unlocked the door and threw it open,

"Get in, hurry! Why in the hell would you want to attract attention by shouting like that."

His voice was an angry hiss, luckily it was, because a sound made him turn around and found the librarian Mrs Cooper was sneaking up on Lily, she looked normal except her eyes and the bite in her neck. He pulled back the pole he still had in his hands and threw it, hitting her on the cheek. He rushed closer, grabbed Mrs Cooper's head in a choke hold, as he slipped in behind her and twisted violently, her neck snapping with a sick wet sound. He held her in this position, dragged her to the door and threw her outside. Then closed and locked the door behind them,

"Seems like she had a habit of locking the library door. She must have gotten in while we were looking through the books."

Oh for Pete's sake people! Go spam somewhere else we are trying to write a Role Play her

Lily

Lily could only watch as kev went to open the door and 3 people hurried in. It was then she noticed an odd smell, looking confused she turned around and covered her mouth to muffle her scream, staring straight at her was mrs cooper, but only this time she had a huge chunk of flesh missing from her neck.

Running out of her reach she watched in horror as kev attacked mrs cooper before throwing her outside, putting a hand to her chest she tried to slow her heart beat down.

Noticing the others she smiled awkwardly, "hi" she muttered before walking back to the window.

These were students she would never have socialised with, she had only seen and heard about them. Looking out the corner of her eye she first noticed akira, he was quiet but for some reason he gave her the creeps, shivering a little she looked at rosa, yes. She had spoke to this girl once before, her first year but it was only so she could get past. Lily didn't really know the last person but had seen him around.

Rose left the door alone, and hoped that nobody was alive in there that could have needed rescuing. Following Akira and Leo, she quickly entered the Library once the door was opened for them. Looking around, she was about to point out the looming vicinity of Mrs Cooper (and throw her wrench at the old hag for old times sake) when Kevin got the situation under control.

Walking over to Lily, she smiled. "Hi."

Over Lily's shoulder, Rose could see the parking lot, but as expected the gates were down. That would cause some problem, but she also knew that the gates could only withstand a car rushing them...not the school's bus.

And she was the perfect person to hot wire that baby.

"I say we try and break the gates down, and drive out of here. Post haste. If I can get onto the bus, I can get rid of the gates...but I'm guessing I'll draw lots of attention in the process."

lily

Lily nodded as she agreed with rose, she turned and looked at her, "we can go to my house, if you want." she turned to look at the others, "the nearest neighbour is like 10 miles away and no one is home."

Lily knew she was burning red with embarrassment, but wasn't this there best bet? looking around she noticed everyone had a weapon except her. she wasn't a fighter was she? she shook herself mentally as she remembered mrs cooper.

Folding her arms she walked to the computer once more sitting down on the chair and started to spin slowly, there just had to be a better way than drawing attention to themselves?

looking to kev, she sighed "Wish we could work out the camera and security. probably make things alot easier."

Crazy Kev

It was only now that he realized that the woman who had come in was Rose-Lee Franklin. He did a double take and moved away from the group, he listened to the two girls talk and ran a hand through his hair. The girl he had a crush on actually was alive, but was it a crush? Perhaps it was just a fancy, or perhaps one of his personalities loved her? His inner thoughts brought a crazy grin to his face,

"Yes it will draw attention, but not any more attention than it will draw when we batter down a secured door, cut through a fence, break into the bus' garage."

He nodded at Lily's remark,

"I don't know about you guys,"

he pointed and Leo and Akira,

"But I know for a fact it is a way to go to my home. Also we will need to get supplies and get out of heavy populated areas."

He pointed at the PC screen where Lily had sat,

"Judging from the world news it is all over the country and have spread to some other countries as well, so once we get out of here I would feel much safer where there is a lot of nothing and you can see these things coming."

Leo Storm

Leo blinked, following behind Rose without saying anything in response to her question. He peeked into the first room when she opened the door, not seeing anything worth mentioning. He could see some of the corpses shuffling about across the way through the windows on the opposite side of the courtyard. He stayed as low as he could without hampering his movement.

He stopped with her at the next door, glancing behind them to see if the other guy was still with them before he heard the noise on the other side of the door. He lightly touched her shoulder to get her attention and pointed at the library door, putting a finger to his lips. He moved along towards the end of the hall and the library sign. The "zombies" were close, but there was no reason they would come running...

He paused mentally.

Shuffling. Shuffling towards them. They didn't seem capable of running. Not these ones, anyway. He stopped a few feet from the door, looking down the hallway behind them to make sure they weren't being followed. He held up a hand as a small group of four shuffled down the hallway where they had just come from. They didn't see them yet, so they still had time to-

"If anyones in there alive, open up. There's three people out here, non of us are bitten and we are armed. Please open up."

He could have killed him.

The dead eyes of the first one looked up, almost seeming to light up again as the corpse groaned at them and started to shuffle towards them faster, the other three following suit and another pair coming around the corner behind them, all mouths gaping open and groaning hellishly at them. He stood, swinging his pipe in a circle at his side, stepping back slowly. The door finally clicked open as the lead zombie got to them.

Leo delivered a straight kick into his Calculus teacher's chest, knocking him back into the other three and slowing down the ones behind them. He quickly stepped into the library and shut the door, locking it. Dead hands started to beat on the door. He took note of the room immediately, identifying three new people, watching the new man take care of the librarian. Leo almost stepped in front of Rose, his protective instinct kicking in, but there was no threat in this room. Not anymore.

The local nut, Kevin. The other girl was Lily, though he couldn't recall her last name. He didn't know her personally, just that he'd heard her name before.

"If we're going to go, now's the time. The door won't hold them forever," he stated simply, subtly shifting his weight from the front of his feet to the back subconsciously, ready for anything.

He glanced sideways at Rose. She did seem the type to hotwire buses for fun. He didn't know much about Kevin, but his quick reflexes and skill seemed like they would be useful. Akira was unknown enough. Seemed a bit arrogant, but that wasn't a problem here. Lily didn't seem like a fighter at all, judging by the look in her eyes. He didn't know how much help she'd be.

These were all first impressions and casual observations, of course.

Smiling, Rose couldn't help but be a little surprised when Leo had tried to protect her. She wouldn't complain, it was less fighting for her, and less chance of getting bitten. Nobody in their right mind would complain with that.

Kevin seemed capable enough, and so far all three of the boys had shown they could handle a zombie or two. Rose looked over at Lily and found herself wondering what skills that girl had.

"Lily, right? What do you do other than schooling?"

She wanted to find out more about those around her, and for now their fighting abilities would suffice. Perhaps Lily knew first aid, or was a quick runner, or was a great cook, or just good at telling when people were upset. Anything that was a positive during such a situation would be good. But a scared little mouse, that might just be more dangerous.

Kevin was right, she had forgotten the one key problem, the doors.

But then again, had she mentioned that whilst she knew how to hot wire a car, she also knew how to open the doors leading to said cars. Her technology skills sucked, and she wasn't a long distance runner, or someone who knew how to survive with nothing but moss and bugs to live off...but this was her thing.

Pulling a pouch from the back pocket of her overalls, she grinned as the soft leather unrolled on her palm. Inside where an assortment of small metal picks, the standard lock picking tools.

"I want to open people's cars as well as work on them...at least that's what the Cert III in Lockpicking teacher was told." She was one of those hybrid students, taking both academic and trade classes.

She wasn't even at school that often, three out of five days and she stuck to her classes and the autoshop with a few detours to the cafeteria, or the Library for study references. Out of the group, she probably had the foggiest memory of the school layout.

Lily looked to her hands before blushing, "well I do know biology and first aid, but I can remember things with one glance." she looked to the floor again. It would probably be best to just leave her, after all she doubted she could snap someone's neck.

Biting her lip she looked to Rose, "there is the back staircase." she pointed to the back of library, "it's from the old school structure, it leads out to the generator next to the car park, but like Kev said before we would have to either cut the fence or open the gates to get to the bus."

Lily grabbed some scrap paper and drew out a rough layout of the school, sibling a title she handed it to Rose, "it's a sad hobbie but that's the old layout of the school, we could try working off that?"

She looked away as all eyes were on her, she had never liked being centre of attention and she could feel her stomach doing summer saults, coughing a little she got up and walked around the library picking up books which could come in handy.

"And the problem with the outside gates is the fact that they are electronic, no key holes. I do know that the groundskeeper and most of the sport teachers has remotes for said gates. So either we go back through them..."

He motioned to the door where moans and groans came emitted,

"Or we go outside and see if we can find one of the teachers..."

He frowned,

"I almost forgot option three, if we cut the power all gates will unlock as their mechanisms will have no circuit to keep them locked, but that would cause everything to unlock and that means we can get over run. I prefer the first option, it means that we must go through less of these things and have a higher chance of survival."

Akira Takashi

Akira looked around the room and remained silent. he knew leo was a good fighter and had seen the other boy dispatch the librarian with ease. Rose was good with cars and seemed to be an expert at lock picking as well by the quality of her tools. the other girl, lilly, seemed to be a smart person with total recall. that would come in handy later.

Calmly he sat on a desk and watched the debate on how best to leave. all the thoughts had merit but they all had major draw backs. all had failed to identify the one major factor...the enemy wasnt human and therefore unpredictable

"they're slow moving, dont appear to really have an sense of direction and die fairly easily. blow to the head with a strong kick or object is enough. so far we have only seen groups of 2 or 3. who knows what would happen if larger packs came at us. the problem we are facing is getting TO the bus with the least amount of resistance. we know there's 4 of the things outside that door. we dont know what is outside except what we see through the windows. also because of the panic we dont know where most of the teachers might be. but youre forgetting something. there's a spare remote in the teachers lounge. they keep it there if the teachers need to use the bus for field trips or club activities. so...option 4...we make our way there and take that remote then make our escape. shortest distance from here. once we are out of here we can figure out where to go."

Looking around at everyone again making sure to meet each of their eyes. he knew he could be cold and calculating when the time required it..and this seemed like the time to let his humanity go and think of survival.
