Her Hero Found

James sat there in amazement. The story that aubrey was telling him was incredible; unbelievable... well, almost unbelievable. He did not think that Aubrey would make up something so ridiculous, and if she did make it up, wht would be her intentions?

"Aubrey, this all is craazy. What? Why? Who? I don't even know where to start with my questions. What do you mean that your father isn't really your father? Who is he trying to sell you to? Why would he do that?

James took a few deep breaths to try to calm himself down and to understand what Aubrey was saying. He walked over and sat next to her on the edge of the bed. He put his arm around her and pulled her close to him.

Aubrey took a few deep breaths to keep from crying anymore, "Well... it turns out my mother, had an affair with some one, who she doesn't know since it seemed that she had a lot..." she shook her head, embarrassed but kept on talking, "and she had me. Daddy was so happy to finally be having a child to take over when he was gone that he never questioned it..."

She pulled away from James, "Until she started to ask Daddy for more money, more spousal support that she blurted out that I wasn't his... I was only 10 at the time, James... can you imagine that? First the kidnapping, then this news. And you know how pig headed Daddy is, he didn't care for me from that point on...instead he made this deal with these people to give me to them when I came of age. Well, a few years ago, they tried to collect what they were promised and that's where you came in. From what I know, you had suspected something of this from Daddy and such, which is why he let you go AFTER you got me back.."

"Bre, I never trusted your father for a second. I never liked him. I always thought he was a little weasal that cared about nothing but money. I thought the kidnapping deal was a plot to collect on insurance money. Yes, he had you insured against kidnapping. He also has a multi-million dollar insurance policy on you, so, if you were killed during the kidnapping he would have claimed double."

"What makes you think that getting married is going to make all of this go away Bre? Especially if it was me that you married. That would just drive him crazy. He would never let us rest."

"Plus, I can not believe that you think that you could buy me. You don't know me better than that? You know that I wil always help you, and the fact that you said you would pay me is highly insulting."

With a sniffle, Aubrey shrugged, "I thought getting married would get him out of his hair and make him realize 'Oh, alright, she's not my responsibility anymore sobeit!' but I guess I was wrong...his stupid debt is more important!"

Aubrey stood up and started to pace, "I tried to pay you because well...I don't know...look how I was raised, it didn't hurt to have the money as a backup plan, I guess."

"I didn't realize it would get this ugly but I was dreading my birthday so damn much and when it came, there was no celebration, just a phone call...a phone call saying that I would be ready in one month..." she continued to pace, her head shaking.

James got up and walked over to her. He took her in his arms and hugged her. "Bre, you know I would do anything to protect you. ANYTHING. If you thought that was the only way out, I would do it..... just for you."

He held her close. He hadn't hugged her in a long time, and when he did she wasn't the beautiful woman that she was now. He held her close to reassure her that he would make sure she was safe... he would never let anything happen to her again.

"You tell me what you want to do, and I will do it."

Aubrey felt so secure in his arms...she almost didn't pay attention to what he had said. She shrugged as she fought back more tears, "Beyond this point, I don't know James...I thought I had a fool proof plan but no..."

"Please...don't let them take me..."

"Bre, nobody is taking you anywhere you do not want to go. I have you. They will not get you. The best thing to do is get some rest. Lay down, sleep, and in the morning we will address what we need to do."

James loosened his grip on Aubrey, but did not let go of her. She would move when she was ready. He knew that about her. Despite not seeing her for years, he remembered all of the little things about her and he was happy that she decided to get him invlolved.

His hands caressed her back, reinforcing wht he ws saying with his words.... "You will be just fine. You are with me now."

"Thank you," came a muffled reply as Aubrey had her face against James' hard chest. After a few more minutes of holding him, she let go with a sigh, pushing away from him.

She didn't say anything more as she went to the living room part of the suite and plopped down on the couch. She was tired, she had to admit that but this was James' room so she would get the couch...since there was only one bed...

James follwed aubrey into the living room area. when she plopped down on the sofa he asked her, "What are you doing Bre? I told you to get some sleep. That means get into bed. I will sleep out here, and don't even think about putting up an argument. You might have been able to get daddy to back down, but you know better than that with me."

He watched as she gave him the look. He smiled at her; a smile that said nice try but no. "Get your behind into the bed... now Bre. we have a lot to figure out tomorrow."

He took her hand and helped her off the sofa. He pushed her toward the bedroom and gave her a playful smack on the ass as she went by.

Despite all that had happen so far, Aubrey couldn't help but giggle when James smacked her butt. She shook her head playfully as she walked into the bedroom. Out of respect, she heard him close the doors behind her, giving her a moment of privacy.

With a deep breath, Aubrey swore not to cry. It would all be OK now, right? James would protect her. He said so.

She refused to think about it more, he was right, she needed rest. Peeling off her designer jeans, Aubrey tossed them on a chair and her tshirt soon followed, leaving her in only a pair of lacy blue panties and matching bra...

*****
During the night of sleeping, Aubrey lost the covers and slept in a sprawled out position on the bed...she was on her stomach, her hands under her head and her fire red hair haloed around her...

One of the things that first freaked out Aubrey's caretakers was her ability to sleep through anything. It took a lot to wake her up, and that meant A LOT... so many times to tell her to wake up...so many shakes of her shoulders...usually it took her a good hour to wake up completely...

When Aubrey went off to bed, James picked up the phone and started to make phone calls. The people he had been working with since getting fired by Aubrey's father were not th enicest of people, but they were good people to be friends with.

He called a couple of people that owed him favors; people whose lives he had saved. He needed their help. He needed some intelligence. Who were the people that Aubrey's father owed money too? Who was trying to get control of his wealth? Who was Aubrey's father trying to give her too?

In addition to the intelligence he needed some muscle. In the mercenary world, that was never hard to find. He would call in a couple more favors... some others he would owe a favor to.

He would let Aubrey sleep as late as she wanted. She needed to rest. He wanted her to be refreshed in case they had to go on the run.

By the time she had woken up, it was well past 11AM...Aubrey quickly jumped into the shower and then afterward, redressed in the same clothes as yesterday...

Opening the doors to the bedroom, she saw James there, the surprise evident on her face, "Did you sleep at all?" She asked as she sat down on a chair and started to put her boots on. "I'm sorry, it's just... I'm pretty sure I left you in that same spot last night..or actually, this morning, way early this morning..." she paused momentarily, "You know, I'm starving, do you think it'll be safe to go out and get something to eat?"

"Wow, someone is full of energy this morning. Do you really think it would be a good idea to go out and get breakfast? Why don't you just call down and order yourself some room service. Anything you want, and it is on me."

He watched her look at him with a pouty face. She always got what she wanted with that face. Well, she used to get everything anyway.

"Bre, I am expecting several phone calls. I need to be someplace quiet when they come in. That quiet place is right here. Now, if you want breakfast you have to order room service. Either that, or go hungry you spoiled little brat, " he told her, laughing.

"It was just a question...sheesh...." Aubrey threw a pillow at him as she stood up and walked toward back to the bedroom, "Just for that, you can order your own breakfast!" she said with a laugh.

As she was on the phone, she called out to James, "Did you want anything?" She heard him and let them know what he wanted before hanging up and heading back to the living area, "So...what sort of phone calls are you waiting for?" She asked, her eyes full of innocence.

He told her just to get him coffee. He didn't need anything to eat, but he certainly did need some caffein. The caffein would keep him going until the intelligence information came in.

"The phone calls I am waiting on will hopefully have some information that will help me figure out how to get you out of the shit with your father. Who the calls come from is not important."

The phone rang and he walked into the bedroom to answer it. the information that was coming in was not good. It turned out that her father had practically no money left, and he owed money to a lot of people; most of them overseas. He was planning on auctioning Aubrey off to pay off some of his debts. A young girl of privelege rought a lot of money overseas.

It turns out that aubrey had not been promised to anyone, but there were several people that were planning on spending a lot of money to get her, and there were a couple that were willing to settle their debts for Aubrey.

"The phone calls I am waiting on will hopefully have some information that will help me figure out how to get you out of the shit with your father. Who the calls come from is not important."

"Ahh, gotcha.." she said just as his phone rang. Aubrey watched James stride toward the bedroom, his walk full of confidence and he seemed on the ready... she admired him so much. He always took care of her back when he worked for her father...

He seemed to be talking for a long time when there was a knock on the door, "Finally, food!" She said, hopping up from the chair she was sitting in. She hurried to the door and yanked it open, seeing a food cart and a young man standing by it. After a few minutes, she was sitting at the small table with her food, a grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoes and a side of tomato soup. Also, James' coffee was waiting. Aubrey quickly made his coffee for him, remembering exactly how he liked it.

It was then he walked back into the room, the look on his face told Aubrey it wasn't good news. "Wow...what's wrong?" She asked as she dug in.

James finished his phone call and looked out the window of the bedroom. This job was not going to be an easy one. It wasn't that the challenge of protecting Aubrey was that great. It was the fact that he was emotionally attached to her.

Since being fired as Aubrey's guard, the jobs he took were very straightforward. He didn't know the people he was dealing with. He only knew the people he was temed up with. Now he had to deal with protecting Aubrey.

He walked into the living room where he saw Aubrey eating. "That doesn't look like breakfast to me." When she asked the question about what was wrong, he was pissed at himself. He needed to be able to hide his emotions around her, so that she didn't worry.

"Well, Bre, it seems that your father was a bigger scumbag than even I thought. You haven't been promised to anyone. He has been planning an auction to sell you to the highest bidder. It seems that young women from privileged families command a high price overseas, and he sees you as a way to pay off some of his debts. It also seems that some of the people he owes money to are very interested in obtaining you as payment for the debt they are owed by your father."

He stood and watched her face as what he just said sunk in. Damn, this was not going to be easy.

Aubrey was almost already done with more than half of her lunch when James reappeared. When he started to explain, Aubrey sort of got her hopes up for a moment when he said she hadn't been promised to anyone but as he continued, she suddenly lost her appetite.

For a good while she didn't say a thing as she thought about everything.

NO! her mind raced, this couldn't be happening... Her father was always there for her..well, sorta, even from the start he never really acted like father, he was always hiring someone to watch after her, go to meetings about her for him...

"No James... it-...I--" she stood up, her lunch long forgotten as she shook her head, "Why would Daddy do that?! I need to call him James, I need to talk to him..." She ran past him and into the bedroom, she needed to call her father NOW!

James knew what her reaction would be. It was just a matter of time until it sunk in. He could not, however, let her call her father. If she made that call, her father would know where she was, and the safety that the hotel provided would be lost.

James follwed Aubrey into the bedroom. "No, Bre. You can't make that call. Don't do it." She didn't listen and pickd up the phone and started dialing. James walked up behind her, wrapped his arms around her, pinning her arms to her sides. Then he took the phone from her and put it back in the cradle.

He whispered to her as he continued to hold her, "Bre, if you call him he will have his goons here in no time. If you trust me, you will do as I say."

Aubrey continued to struggle but not as hard as before. James continued to whisper softly to her, telling her what could possibly happen once her father found her. It was a harsh reality but something she had to hear nonetheless.

After a moment, she stopped struggling and tried her best not to just collapse in James' arms. He was leading her over to the bed and she sat down on the edge, her mind still in disbelief.

"Why..?" she shook her head, "I mean, how does someone like Daddy spend so much money and expect to pay it off with a human being?" she asked quietly. Aubrey leaned her head on James' shoulder, "What am I going to do now?"

James could feel her stop struggling. He could sense the disappointment in her voice. Someone who she had put so much trust in, had cared so much about, had loved so much was treating her like nothing more than an object.

She placed her head on his shoulder. He leaned his head against hers, and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "Bre, you have your trust fund. That will take care of you financially. We will go to the bank and make arrangements to have the money transferred to an account in which your father can't touch. As far as everything else, well, that is what I am here for. I will take care of you."

With little nods to what he was saying, Aubrey sat up straight and sniffled. She was close to crying but she refused to shed any more tears over what her father had done...what he was doing.

She took a deep breath, "I-...I all ready had the money transferred two days ago. Different bank, different name..." she got up begrudgingly and grabbed her purse. After a moment of digging around, she pulled out a folder of papers, "See... I knew someone at school who got me a fake ID...no one knows about it...I don't know why but that was my first thought was the money and now that it's mine, I knew I had to protect it..."

"I guess you did learn something from daddy didn't you?" He smiled at her, trying to get her to relax. "You will never have to worry bout money. Now we have to worry about making sure that you don't have to worry about anything else."

"I have some people that are going to help me take care of you and your problems. They are not very nice men. You just have to trust me that what I am doing is for the best."

There was no hesitation in Aubrey's response...her eyes were wide as she looked at him, "I trust you James, you're the only I've ever trusted in my whole life.."

There was a moment between them. Aubrey could feel it. It was then she had this whole new respect for James. He had never let her down. He never made a promise he didn't keep. And she'd always loved him for that.

"We are going to stay here for several days. Nobody knows where you are except me. You can relax here. I have some people gathering more information for me."

He could see that she was not very happy that she was going to be stuck in the hotel for a few days. "Bre, it is not ideal, but you have to stay here. I will be here with you. I am not going anywhere yet."
