Her Hero Found

When Aubrey walked out of the dressing room, James did a double take. It may have been the first time that he realized that Aubrey had grown up..... really grown up.

He took her hand and they walked out of the store holding hands. The taxi was waiting for them as they walked out. They got in and he told the driver to take them to the airport.

"So, what all did you pack back at the house? I hoe you packed some clothes that can be used in warm weather, because that is where we are headed... someplace nice and warm."

Aubrey frowned, "Well..." she picked up the bag and literally tossed it on James' lap...the damn thing was heavy and she was glad to be rid of it. "Since you said we'd be able to get things as we go along, I didn't pack any clothes..." she looked out the window and sighed, "There's nothing I needed nor wanted from home..." she said wistfully.

She heard James open the bag and didn't look at him, "So, where are we going?"

He looked into the bag. "Holy shit Bre! Where did you have this stuff hidden?" He listened to her explain that she had the combination to her father's safe and just decided to clean it out. "Well Bre, it seems like we are going to have to get you a suitcase to put this in. You can sort it out when we get where we are going."

He did not answer her question. He simply said, "It will be a nice surprise. We are going to vacation together and spend some time getting reacquainted." Dominic had the driver stop at a leather shop and they bought aubrey a suitcase.

When they arrived at the airport, Dominic went to the ticket counter. He got their tickets and they walked toward the gate. It wasn't until they got through security and to the gte that Aubrey reealized they were headed to Aruba.

Aubrey had to laugh, "I'm not going to sort it out... I don't even know why I took it.." she said.

Once they arrived at the airport, Aubrey was still asking James where they were going...and damnit, he wouldn't answer. As they headed toward the gate, he finally gave her her ticket and she looked at it...she squealed, causing several people to look at them.

Throwing herself into James' arms, she hopped a little, "Aruba! Oh wow, I've never been there!!" She let go and stepped back, looking at the ticket... still hopping a bit.

Once they boarded and were on their way, flying first class of course, Aubrey leaned her head on James' shoulder, "Thank you James... I'm glad you decided to help me and not walk away from me..."

As they moved into their first-class seats, James placed Aubrey's bag in the overhead compartment. Then he sat down next to Aubrey and winked at her as she thanked him for helping her out. "You knew that I would never be able to say no to you."

James patted her bare knee. "By the way, I didn't tell you, but you look incredibly beautiful in that dress." With that he sat back in his seat and prepared for takeoff.

She blushed and looked away when he said she was beautiful. She had heard it before from her father and some others, but for some reason, when James said it, it just felt different.

"As for you saying no to me...I will admit that it did cross my mind once or twice." She said as she buckled up. "I knew you wouldn't say no James. You were even ready to marry me, remember?"

"Bre, I would do whatever I had to..... will do whatever I have to to protect you. I can think of a lot worse things than having to marry you to protect you." He smiled at her and then put his head back in the seat.

As the plane taxied out to the runway for takeoff, James settled in. It had been a long day, and the flight to Aruba would give them both some time to relax. He couldn't wait to get into the sun.

"Another glass?" The flight attendent asked Aubrey, who was on her second glass of wine. Nodding, Aubrey pulled her one of the ear buds out of her ear as she looked over at James who had his eyes closed.

Holding out her glass, she let the attendent fill her glass. They may have still been over the states but Aubrey did have her other ID with her showing she was over 21, which got her the drinks.

Just as she was about to take a sip, James grabbed the glass from her... "Hey..." she yanked the ear phones out of her ears all the way, "What's the big deal?"

"Do not make a scene Bre. You are only 18. You should not be drinking alcohol. You may have done that on daddy's watch, but not on my watch. You need to stop drinking and get your shit together."

James called teh flight attendant back and handed her the wine; telling her that Aubrey had changed her mind about the wine. He held Aubrey's hand as he sat back in the seat. This way he would be able to tell if Aubrey was doing something she wasn't supposed to be. Of course, Aubrey didn't have to know that ws why he was holding her hand.

"I wasn't going to make a scene... it's just.." she sighed as James sat back, still holding her hand. She tried to yank her hand back but he held her firmly. Ordinarily she would've liked it, "You're treating me like a child James... I just want to let you know that I'm not a child..."

When he still wouldn't let go, she sat back too, listening to him. "OK, I'm sorry..." She pushed her ipod aside and looked at him, "So, why Aruba?" she asked with curiosity.

"Why Aruba? Well, it is warm and sunny, and it is away from the people I want you to be away from. We will establish a new identity for you, and let things blow over for a while, and then you will be free to do as you please."

"Is there a problem with Aruba? I thought you would like to go somewhere tropical. If you had a choice where would you rather I take you?"

"A new identity? Nice... can I be Karen? I've always wanted to be a Karen.." she said, looking at him with a smile.

"And no, I have no problem with Aruba..I just asked, sheesh... calm down James," she told him with a giggle. "Really, I've never to Aruba, and I'm really excited because well... technically I'm going without someone hovering over me, at least a strange someone."

Aubrey leaned against James, resting her head on his arm, "So, OK, I'm not stupid James, can you tell me exactly what you've been doing since Daddy fired you?"

"Aubrey, I can't talk about what I have been doing; not here anyway. Maybe when we get to Aruba I will fill you in on what I have been doing for the last four years."

"I can't believe that a spoiled little rich kid like you has never been to Aruba before. Well, if I have one word of advice, be careful who you go out with late at night down there. Wouldn't want another pretty girl to disappear."

"Disappear?!" Aubrey exclaimed. She looked at James, her expression was one of shock. Was he kidding? He was taking her from one danger and exposing her to another?

"Great.." she muttered as she leaned her head back and decided not to talk for the rest of the flight...

****
She heard her name... and then a little nudge. Opening her eyes, Aubrey looked around as she sat up, "What?!" She asked as she tried to get her bearings together. It took a moment to realize they were there. The plane was getting ready to land...

James stood up and grabbed Aubrey's bag. He grabbed her hand and led her off the plane. They heded toward customs and made it through rather easily since they only had Aubrey's carry-on bag.

After passing through customs James stopped. "Give me all of your ID.... anything with your name on it... I want it now." He took everything she gave him. He ripped her passport apart and dumped the pages into different trash cans. Her drivers license went into another trash can after it was cut into small pieces.

"Ok Karen, let's go start on your new life." He led her out of the airport and into a taxi. The drove into the center of Oranjestad. James led karen down an alley and into a store, where her new ID, including passport, were created. With that task accomplished, they headed to their oceanfront hotel room. Time for some fun in the sun.

When they entered the hotel room, it was extremely lavish. The best suite in the hotel, balcony over looking the ocean, two rooms, each with their own TVs and minibars...2 bathrooms...

Aubrey was used to staying in such fineness but for some reason, when one stayed in another country, especially a paradise like Aruba, it was even greater.

"So, can I go downstairs by myself and get some shopping done?" She asked hopefully...even though she knew what the answer was going to be...

James threw Karen's bag on her bed and then walked out on the balcony and looked at the ocean. When he heard her question he chuckled at her. "Why would you even ask me that question Bre? I mean Karen."

"If you want to go down and do some shopping I will take you down. I need to get some clothes too, since I came here with nothing." He walked in off the balcony and looked at Karen, "Let's do it now. We will get something to eat too."

Aubrey never turned down an opportunity to shop. Eagarly she walked with James back to the elevator.

In no time, they were shopping in one of the finest shops located just steps from the hotel. Usually Aubrey held back at shopping, knowing what her father would say, but this time, she got more than enough clothes. She bought 4 bikinis, which James didn't see her pick up, dresses for dinner, casual clothing for other times when she wasn't going to be at the beach or out.

Everything was sent up to their room as they had a late dinner, which Aubrey continued to yawn through the whole meal. She hated jet lag...it was then James suggested they call it a night and start fresh in the morning.

Aubrey was in no mood to argue nor complain.

James made a joke about how he must be boring company if she was yawning so much. He paid the check nd they walked out and got on the elevator. After getting on the elevator he pushed the button for the penthouse. Since it was the penthouse, and the elevator opened right into the suite, he had to put in his key to get the elevator to go all the way up there.

While they rode up James asked Aubrey what she wanted to do tomorrow. "Anything special, or would you just like to go to the beach?" He could see her mind wandering. "You don't have to decid tonight. Think about it and let me know in the morning."

They exited the elevator, and he said goodnight to her. "I m going to bed shortly. I just need to make a call before doing so."

Aubrey couldn't say how she made it to bed but she did. By the time she woke up the next morning, the sun was shining brightly and she remembered that James had asked her about what she wanted to do today.

She hurried and threw on one of her bikini's she bought last night and then tossed on a sarong and a loose fitting top. She was draped in clothing but the reveal would be coming later on...

Opening the door to her suite, she didn't see James anywhere so she knocked on his door, calling out for him, "James, I'm ready!" Nothing. Frowning, she opened the door and could hear the shower running.

Damnit, she wanted to go now... then the idea came to her, she left him a note on the hotel stationary and left it for him on his bed which read "MEET YOU DOWN STAIRS! SORRY, I COULDN'T WAIT!". She then went to the elevator and got in...

James slept well once he got off the phone. He slept soundly and when he awakened he felt rested and relaxed. He went to the shower and turned it on. After undressing, he stepped into the hot shower, and enjoyed it immensely.

After finishing the shower, he toweled off and wrapped the towel around him. He walked out into the bedroom and saw the note on the bed. "Damn that spoiled little brat." He threw on a pair of shorts and a bathing suit and headed down in the elevator to find Aubrey.

Outside, there was some gathering going on with some college aged students, they were drinking, yelling and loud music blarred. With out any notice, someone shoved a drink into Aubrey's hand, another grabbed her by the elbow and led her out to the middle of the music...

She knew James wasn't going to like this but he wasn't here... she downed her drink before another was handed to her...

James exited the elevator and walked through the lobby looking for Aubrey. She was such a brat. When he got out by the pool he saw a large group of people partying...... girls in bikinis.... guys in bathing suits and no shirts.

He knew she was there somewhere. He walked around the outside of the group looking for her. Then he saw her in the middle of the group. He tried to make eye contact with her but could not catch her attention. He sw her finish one drink and then another was placed in her hand. She downed that one quickly, and the same guy that had handed her the last one handed her another.

James moved toward the guy. James grabbed his arm and told the boy, "if she gets one more drink, I will break your arm into a lot of little pieces." When the kid looked at him James winked at him. "I am not playing. If you think I am, go ahead and try me." James was careful not to make a scene.

After the boy walked away, James walked up to aubrey and took her by the hand and led her out toward the beach. "Karen, we are going to take a little walk on the beach and enjoy the beautiful weather."

James had a grip on Aubrey's hand like a vice. She tried to pull away but he held on...not tightly but in a way he wasn't going to let go.

"Hey... what's wrong?" Aubrey asked as they reached a secluded spot where he finally let go. "James, what's the matter? I wasn't in any danger...they were all just having fun which I was trying to do!"

She could tell he was beyond pissed. The buzz of the first drink had all ready hit her and she swayed a bit, giggling. It hit her fast because she hadn't had breakfast and the last thing she ate was dinner the night before.

"I seriously think you need to relax James."

When they got out onto the beach he stopped and spun her around in front of her. "Bre, you didn't notice that the same guy kept giving you drinks. In the short time I was there he gave you two drinks and was ready to give you a third. Do you think he was just being a nice guy making sure the pretty girl in the new bikini was having a good time?"

He was so upset at her. "We just got here and already you are putting yourself in danger. Those drinks are strong.. on purpose. He was trying to get you drunk, and then who knows what his intentions were. Look at you, you are already having trouble standing up. Come on, let's walk it off." James started to lead her down the beach. She struggled to steady herself, so, James put his arm around her waist to hold her up and guide her as they walked.
