After the debate tonight CNN talked to a large roomful of people in El Paso who had gathered together to watch the debate on TV. There were more than fifty people there, with more than forty of them of Hispanic descent. CNN asked if anyone was offended by what Trump has said about illegal immigrants, deporting illegal immigrants, etc. Not a single person was offended. The CNN guy appeared stunned. Most of the people said they were voting for Cruz, by the way. He's even tougher on illegals and deportation than Trump.

How was it phrased? Cus there is a difference between deportation and keeping illegals out which offends nobody at all (well a tiny sect of libertarians but who cares) and then there is "they are rapists" which should offend EVERYBODY. The fact that there are people unoffended by that is scary to me.
The question was very clearly phrased, which was why the CNN guy appeared stunned that not one person raised a hand. I was surprised, also. The emphasis was on deportation, and in individual followup questions it was crystal clear the audience was in favor of deporting illegal immigrants. One young Hispanic said in no uncertain terms that illegal immigrants deserve to be deported. He was a Trump supporter. Nothing was said about Trump saying some illegals are rapists, but this was clearly a conservative, Republican-leaning group of people that had gathered to watch the Republican debate together.

If nothing was said about Trump calling them rapists then it's not really valid. Who on either side is offended by deporting illegals? Just because I think that if Hitler could only manage 6 million with tactics we can't stomach that 11 million is a goal no more achievable than Captain America doesn't mean it offends me. It means I think we need a plan that can actually function. I wouldn't expect Americans of any race to be offended.

I seriously doubt there was anyone in that room, especially the Hispanics, who was unaware of Trump's comments about Mexican illegal immigrants. Perhaps they weren't offended because it is true that some of them are rapists. He also said some are drug dealers. That is also true. Not all illegal immigrants are good people.

He didn't say some, he said MOST. Maybe they just don't care and that's annoying but whatever. IT's not like the entire south doesn't vote against it's own self interests so there is no accounting for people.

How far do you think that exaggerated 1/3 is going to get him in the General Election sub-genius?
I don't recall Trump saying "most" illegal immigrants are rapists. I would be very surprised if he actually used that terminology.

It took about three seconds to find the quote you're unsure about.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
So what he actually said was that MOST are rapists, criminals, drug dealers... he assumes (doesn't know) that SOME are good people.
It takes less than one second to see he didn't say most are rapists.

His statement is very easily understood to mean that he believes that MOST illegal immigrants (Mexicans in particular) are drug addicts or dealers, criminals and rapists. The throwaway at the end that he "assumes SOME are good people" implies that MOST fall into the latter categories.

An idiot such as you can very easily understand what he said to mean what you said, but that's not what he actually said. And he clearly did not mean most are rapists. You are just fucking stupid enough to think he did.

The other problem with Trump's quote is its implication that Mexico has a policy of "sending" people it doesn't want to the United States, which like much of what he says is not supported by any evidence.

I quoted verbatim what he said. Here it is again, have someone sound out the larger words for you.

It takes zero stretch to see from his own words that he considers MOST illegal immigrants (particularly those from Mexico) to be drug addicts or dealers, criminals, and rapists while he assumes (doesn't know) that some (not a majority, not most) are good people.

I will say he is the master at changing the direction of the media. The negative press this morning about the debate has been all but nullified by the Christie endorsement. He now has someone on his campaign who can speak extemporaneously on the issues and kick the crap out of Hillary. Very smart.
