Ariosto, please let me know if there is anything you'd like me to change.
OOC: Elizabeth Moore (her friends and intimate associates call her Bette). 5’7”, curvy, voluptuous figure, long legs, wavy, shoulder-length dark brown hair, brown eyes, very fair-skinned, full, pouty lips. Mid 40s, but is coy about her exact age. She believes that an older woman can be every bit as attractive as a younger one, and she always dresses and makes up her face to her best advantage. Flirty, likes to tease and have a good time. Although she will never admit to it, she is a little jealous of the attention her daughter Toni receives from men. (Could there possibly be some tension between her and her daughter? That might be interesting to explore.) Still, she loves her kids and would do anything for them. Frank Sr. has left her pretty well provided for, but she likes to keep busy by doing volunteer work around the town.
She loved Frank, but there was always something missing in their relationship. She longed for passion and excitement, and Frank was a little too dull and reliable, even though he was a good husband. Eventually she filled that void with a series of discreet affairs. Having affairs makes her feel young and desirable. She has a voracious sexual appetite, and has been known to tire out her lovers. She has a lot of friends, but only feels really close to a few people. Her sexual exploits have alienated some of the women in town, and for this reason she finds it difficult to form close friendships with women. However, she is a good person to have as a friend because she understands the value of keeping a secret.
Jack Becker is 5'10" he's stocky and muscular.
His hair is dark and his eyes are gray/blue. He resembles the old movie actor John Garfield. He will be 33 years old in a month.
He's worked with his hands all his life but has a sharp and inquisitive mind. He managed to finish High Scholl through corespondence courses at the State Prison. In his early and mid twenties he worked at being a prizefighter and built a respectable record. A string of losses and a life threatening injury prematurely retired him and he
began a vagabond life...doing a bit of everything.
He's seen a lot of the Country during the years leading up to his imprisonment.
On a cold December night in 1939 Jack got into a scrape with some local boys and put one of them, a lawyers son in the hospital.
Because he still had a license to fight in that state they laid an assault charge on him and he recieved a two year prison sentence.
He arrived in Fair Harbor only a week ago and was able to get a job as an apprentice welder at Patterson's. He met Clair at the Harbor View Diner and she directed him to her Grandfather's home, knowing he had a room available.
Yesterday some shipwrecked German sailors had taken Davy Moore the 15 year old son of Elizabeth Moore hostage and Jack was instrumental in getting his release through his fluent command of German.
He is somewhat of a celebrity in town now and especially with the Moore family.
Toni recently arrived in town herself has taken and especially strong interest in him and he with her.
He is on his way to the Moore home for Dinner as the story opens...
PLEASE POST THE STORY LINE AT HOME FRONT42...The Play!
Ariosto - ok....I'm cofused on a couple of minor details. And you know how I am with details!
One: does Claire work at the Robinson's Diner or the Harbor View Diner? (I know...VERY minor point!)
Two: does Jack take a room from Claire's father or grandfather? (seemingly another minor point, but one which could change the way I develop my character)
http://www.Bibracte.dreamwater.org/ATWAS/ritaplaid.jpg Toni Moore had returned to Fair Harbor three months ago. There had been talk when she disappeared right after graduation. Lots of talk. Eventually it died down, but there were still a few who wondered.
Fact was, Toni had headed for the big city. New York. In search of excitement. Right behind Johnny Bell, an Italian boy from the wrong side of the tracks. She couldn't resist his smile, or the way he looked deeply into her eyes. He was everything she ever dreamed of and more. Until...
Ariosto
Here's what I'm thinking if you'll have me....
Mrs Andrew Sinclair or should I say the soon to be EX Mrs Sinclair.
Maggie Sinclair
Mid-40's
5'8"
Everything about her speaks of wealth...
Maggie loves only two things...Men and Money...or more precisely...Money and Men. ...She came from old money gone dry. It was said her father married her off to Andrew to unite the Deveraux/Sinclair fortunes. Money originally made in the opium trade. While much of the fortune was lost in the stock market crash of '29, Maggie still had wealth, but how much is enough when your greatest fear is losing it all.....
This is a woman with many secrets.
Years ago there was talk of a child but no one knew the validity of the story and if true who the father was...
How's that sound??? Is it a go? And do any you more experienced player have any suggestion??? All are more than welcome!!!
oh, and Ariosto thanks for the tea you darlin' man...xoxox
Ariosto, I hope you are happy in the direction Frank Jnr is going so far and thanks again for letting me join.
Here's some details about his character.
Frank's Physical Attributes
A very good looking boy (gets most of his looks from his mother), his physical attributes are:
Age : 18
Height : Just over 6.2".
Hair : Dark brown.
Eyes : Dark brown.
Physique : Slim but muscular having to keep fit for football.
Frank's Personality
Essentially, he is a nice intelligent kid who sometimes gets carried away with things. Being a star quarterback at school, he is very popular.
His father's death (which had been tough on him) has made him appreciate his family, especially his mother, who he had worried about since she had taken the death so badly. He is glad that she's finally becoming her old self again.
However, his father's death has also caused him to revaluate his life, making him realise that there may be other things out there than just football, a steady girlfriend (his only ever girlfriend) and a mapped out future. That's why he has signed up to join the army, to see what else life has to offer.
He also takes after his mom regarding his interest in the opposite sex (being a teenager and virgin doesn't help). Although he does love Maisy, he finds the non-sexual status of their relationship often frustrating. He also finds himself becoming more and more attracted to other girls and older women including Sophie Kelly and Mrs Sinclair. However, so far, he has never cheated on his girlfriend.
Ariosto wrote that Claire works at Robinson's Diner... If you've used a different name, I think that it won't be a problem. (I LIKE the name "Harbor View" )
Jack lives with Claire's grandfather. (Unless that has changed...)
For all citizens of Fair Harbor:
Ariosto and I have been writing "everyone" for so long at the other Homefront, that I tend to just add the other characters into my posts. Please... If I do that and offend anyone, just slap my hands and tell me to stop.
OOC: this is a character I mentioned early on to aristo, thought I should at least get his "stats" on the board. I'll still be playing Lt. Nels Bronson as well, and will post in subject line at thread which character is which.
Carter Moorehouse Sims IV
Early 30's, 6' 2", slender with a bookish appearance, wears steel rimmed glasses, wavy brown hair, soft spoken Boston accent, Harvard Ph.D. Has come to Fair Harbor as a teacher.
(hmmm, let me know. Is there room for a small college nearby, or should he be teaching at the high school?)
Carter comes from a wealthy family of Boston "Brahmins". But, he is not all he seems to be.
a little background
By June of 1942, the Office of the Cooridantor of Information officially became the Office of Strategic Services under William "Wild Bill" Donovan. Prior to this, there is some indication that the OCOI had already begun to conduct overt and covert intelligence operations abroad, and also at home in conjunction with the FBI. Many of the members of the OCOI made the transition to OSS. A great majority of them were the "Harvard" boys of FDR, professors, professionals, scholars, etc. who proved to be rather more effective than those who would supersede them when, after WWII, the OSS was disbanded in favor of the new CIA.
Carter is a member of the OSS. As the office is going through transition, Carter has been assigned to watching for German spies and sabatouers in Fair Harbor, a likely place for them to be. He would not be what we typically think of as a "secret agent", for that developed later, though he would have considerable training and some experience through his work with the old OCOI.
sojournerwolf, Carter Moorehouse Sims, sounds like an EXCELLENT character...
Seeing as my character Maisy (Frank Jnr's girlfriend) is suppossed to start college this year... there could be a whole... teacher's pet, older man, younger innocent woman senario... hmmm... interested? [lol]
Though of course... you are correct... there isn't any school on the map yet...
Yes, sounds like a very good idea, Moneytalks. Could add some very interesting tensions to the plot. Let's see what aristo thinks of having a college nearby. (else, Carter is going to have to teach high school students. *ROFL*)
Ariosto,
does the town have a local newspaper? i thought it might be a way for us to introduce sub plot.... example war headline, local crimes, social columns.....what do you think??? role players could post articles as columnist.....it's a thought anyway
faith
p.s. i need some where to live... i'm thinking of living at the hotel for a while.
p.s.s. i saw some really fine art work today-Bravo!
There's poor Frank, willing to risk his life for God and Country, who hasn't even left yet and there you are, already setting up Maisy with a replacement boyfriend.
ooooh... I'm soooo busted... but hey... the girl has to get some action... with Frankie checking out every other girl with boobs and a reputation...
[ggls]
I love the character developement so far... I'm not actually that eager to let you swan off to war yet... [grins] I'm hoping Frankie will be Maisy's first... I mean... we've got to see if that whole
"I could be going off to die for my country... this could be my last night in your arms..." line actually works!
[wicked grin]
Maisy could get pregnant... your older sister finds out and gets mad at you... Maisy might even have to give up the baby... ohhh... you get the idea... a million sub-plots just WAITING for us to abuse!
I LOVE the idea of a newspaper... sounds fabulous...
Especially good for the girls waiting for their men back in Fair Harbour... it's an outlet through which they can get news... I'd imagine all the women left behind would be desperate for news...
I espcially like the idea that we can all put in our own columns... not necessary written by us but perhaps affecting us in someway...
Ariosto, I would like to throw another character into the mix which I would like to play myself (unless someone else wants to play him).
Here's some details about his character.
Deak's Physical Attributes
James Dean look-a-like.
Age : 21
Comments: Frank Junior's best friend.
Deak's Personality
Not a nice guy. Brought up on the wrong side of the tracks by parents who are equally not very nice (it is rumoured that his father is into organised crime or something equally shadey). Have had brushes with the law but nothing has been proven. He looks after number one and is trying to get Frank to go down the same path.
Like Frank, Deak has a strong interest in the opposite sex (basically fancies anything in a dress) and thinks he is God's Gift. Unlike Frank, he is not subtle about it. It is also rumoured that he has made a girl in town pregnant.
Deak has also made passes at Maisy behind Frank's back (she has never told him since this happened just after his father's death). He also encouraged Frank to join up in the first place though funnily enough, he was meant to join at the same time but got off through a technicality.
Unfortunately, Frank won't hear a bad word against him, thinking that Deak is just understood/harshly judged by others (especially since he feels he was a good and supportive friend after the death of his father).
Z... moi? Evil? No no... I'm a good girl I am... [evil smile]... oops... [quickly changes that expression to that of innocence... batting my lashes at you and all... ]
[lol]
A James Dean look-alike? Interesting... should add a hell of a lot of spice to the mix. [grins]
Ariosto I may occassionally play some of Maisy's girlfriends... they probably won't be around all that much as I don't know if I can post all of them all of the time... but for occassions like the dance coming up it would make sense that Maisy would have several girlfriend's from school there as well.
Good Lord I got behind on this!
There is a Newspaper Faith, The Free Press. John Carmody was editor for years.
Housing in wartime was always a problem. There are a number of apartments and Duplexes not too expensive out towards Jack's place. You should have a roomie though. Almost all working girls did.
A college is a good idea...
It's not on the map because it's located 10 miles out the Providence road.
The name is Briarwood College, it's a small but well respected liberal arts school, though there is talk of a secret government project about to be installed there.
Not only teachers MoneyTalks, but students, football players, cheerleaders etc. are grist for our mill.
Zehrman...no problem with Deke except the age, 5 years is a bit much...how about 21.
You might consider him as Maisy's no good brother.
But remember he is PRIME for the draft.
Cool... I'm thinking that Maisy will probably decide to study Psychology at Briarwood College. This would make sense as she's the caring touchy feely type and what with the war on... there would be a lot of service men coming home fairly shook up and broken from the experience.
I'm going with the idea that she was smart enough to get entrance into Yale... Harvard... and the like but decided to stay close to home. Unlike Frank... she realises how good life is in Fair Harbour and has no real desire to move away... but I think it's also because her family is in Fair Harbour and with all the talk of her friends about family members lost to the war she's feeling particularly clingy to them at the moment. I don't want people to think she's completely unexciting... just that she's more mature than most for her age despite being terribly naive.
I'm assuming that Maisy and Frank and others are still finishing high school... so... would a graduation be happening soon or are we assuming they've already graduated?
In either case kids would be starting college soon so there is an opening there for all the influence college has on kids. The rebellion the fight against what they believe is too much political control etc.
Some idea of when these events, ie. start of college and end of high school would be good... I'm assuming it's Summer now from the intro... so Summer break at school? I don't know... I'm from down under and our school years run on opposite seasons so I don't know how it all works... fits in... in America... [grins]
Hi MT...It is Summer and the kids have graduated.
Fall term begins around September first.
Frank has volunteered for the army and will be inducted within the month...yes your BF is going away...But there is a draft on and most young men will be going to ar or defense industries.
