So, the spreader bar... I am assuming the two rods are because one goes inside the other to make the whole thing adjustable, right? Then how does it stay at the set length?

No, it's not adjustable, sorry.

It's a fixed-length threaded rod inside a (shorter) aluminum tube, then lug nuts to center the rod inside the tube and then the metal loops screwed to the end points of the threaded rod. Then I wrapped the connections with self-amalgamating (AE: self fusing) tape to prevent hair getting caught in between.

I find this thread really interesting. I think making or repurposing objects for BDSM is a really intimate and fun thing to do.

My favourite is very simple. A stick that I made for my sub. I took an ordinary, think, straight stick, peeled off the bark from all but the handle. I sanded the rest and stained the whole thing with varnish. The result was unique, and special. It was her favourite thing to be beaten with... Sad we can't do this anymore 😢😢😢.

Just posted this (my first!!) as an example and to encourage people to have a go. It's great
 
Funny, Ive been to two classes locally at different BDSM events where the host would teach us how to make some cheap, amazing 'toys' at home. They were called Pervertables.

Gluing the sole of an army boot to a wood paddle, was a popular one. You would be amazed at all the fun things you can make from items found at the dollar store. Im dead serious.

Dollar store -- yes! Love them! Next step is a craft store :)

Boot with a paddle I am not so sure about, depends on how it is supposed to be used.

For the next one, you might consider modifying the dowel rod a bit to prevent that the resin top just slides off. You could screw in a screw into the side of the dowel top before adding the resin or carve a little ring into the wood the resin can grasp onto.

I use clothesline with a hole drilled in the end for hanging weights , etc. My wife loved it !
 
Truly, truly evil: use a clothespin on nipples, but put a nail or or a pin through it - just enough to protrude a fraction of millimeter. Adjust it as required ;)
