Hometown Blues

Kevin blushed, "I'm sorry, you are just too pretty and you make a guy nervous." He said frowned and looking down at the water. "I go to work whenever I want. Because I am the boss."

He sipped his wine and said, "I may be too drunk to go to work tomorrow." He suggested, "Or possibly up too late tonight entertaining my best friend the beautiful and very sexy Julie who for some reason decided to tease me with a skimpy two piece bikini."

Kevin eyes Julie's little smile and wondered how she felt. He wanted to know what she was thinking about him. How she always thought about him, he couldn't help but want her with every fiber of his being it was maddening.

"Oh come on Kevin, we've seen each other naked you know. Albeit when we were about four..." Julie hid a smile behind her hand and giggled. "I can't imagine making anyone nervous, and I'm definitely not pretty, you must need to get glasses!" She set her wine glass down and ducked under the water until it was right up to her neck.

"I didn't mean to tease you with a two piece. If you want I will promise to never come around to visit again, and then you won't have to worry about my inappropriate dress sense." She smirked, hiding her mouth underneath the waterline.

It felt good, teasing and laughing with him. And the way he flirted with her, it made her feel good. She was having fun for the first time in a lot of months. Her eyes sparkled.

"I'll go home now, shall I? That way you can invite someone over who knows how to dress properly, and will appreciate an extravagant Porsche as a coming home present..."

Kevin narrowed his eyes and glared at her, he knelt into the water until he was up to his neck and he moved until his face was right in hers. "You are the most beautiful girl I have ever met Julie. If you cover up that body ever around me I will get a pair of scissors and cut you until I feel you show enough."

He paused, "Which might mean you'd be naked." Then he kissed her forehead and moved back to his seat.

"I wouldn't give just any girl a fancy car. There are requirements. I mean you have to be smart, funny, beautiful, amazing, my best friend, and also and this is very very important. You have to be the girl of my dreams." He confessed, sipping his wine and shrugging. "I can't think of anyone that fits that better than you."

Julie felt her heart lurch in her chest, skipping a beat. She wondered if, all these years, Kevin had been in love with her. Her face flushed red and she looked away, taking a deep mouthful of her wine to steady her nerves. The girl of his dreams? The way he felt about her...

She was shocked, leaning back against the hot tub and shivering for a moment. She never thought he had felt about her that way. She used to have a crush on him before Clark, but it had never worked out between them. Julie looked up at him.

"Do you ever wonder... if things could have been different?"

Kevin shook his head and felt his stomach churn. He wondered if he had made a big mistake by letting it slip. For a moment he wanted to simply blame the wine and leave it at that, but he knew better than to try and change the subject with her.

"I don't wonder if things could be different. I KNOW they could be different. I wish they were different. I couldn't stand myself for like two years after you got married. I always knew in my heart that it should have been us together, not you and Clark. I poured myself into my work to keep my depression at bay."

He sighed and shrugged, "Honestly maybe it was a good thing. That focus got my restaurant to where it is today and made me a great living. And now you are back so maybe it was meant to happen this way." He looked at her and shrugged again, "What do you think? Think maybe this was all meant to come full circle in a way?"

Julie smiled awkwardly, shrugging. "Sometimes I do. Sometimes I worry that it's all a bit early. I mean, but then I think that Clark and I drifted apart for the last couple of years, so maybe I was preparing myself for it not to work."

She sighed. "I'm sorry you got depressed because of me. And I'm sorry that you were hurt. But... It all worked out alright for you with the restaurant?"

Julie looked up at him sadly. "If I had stayed, you might not have taken off with it like you did. Maybe it was better that I went away."

Kevin shrugged, "That might be true, but that doesn't make it feel any better. That doesn't take away the regret of loosing you, the hurt that I felt at my own stupidity."

He finished the wine in his glass and poured another one. He stared at the bubble in the glass for a while, "None of that matters though really. It happened, we both went through some shit apparently, and now you are back so it doesn't even matter now."

He set the glass down and slipped into the water up to her, so that his eyes were on her level. "You are not getting away from me again. I refuse to loose my best friend again. I love you Jules, and it's time I admit it to both myself and to you."

Julie gasped as Kevin made his confession. A part of her had always known how he felt, and now that it was out in the open, it could never be taken back again. Julie's cheeks were a deep shade of pink as she blushed deeply.

"Kevin... I don't know what to say..." A part of her had always loved him too, and she knew when she married Clark it was her ticket out of this town. But maybe she was never meant to go. Maybe she was meant to be here, with Kevin. They could have filled this house with love and laughter, and children.

Was that opportunity gone? Was she too late?

Julie lowered her head. "You won't lose me again. I'm not going anywhere." She took a step towards him as the water bubbled around them both, and she lifted her arms, snaking them around his shoulders as she held him. "I'm not going anywhere, not ever again. I'm home."

Home was here, with him.

Kevin put his hands on her hips and smiled. He never felt so complete in his entire life. This was what he was missing all this time. He needed his best friend, his love, his soulmate. He looked into her eyes and slowly, carefully he leaned in and kissed her. Her lips were like silk against his, his heart hammered heavilly in his chest.

He is expected and feared that she would jerk away from him. He wouldn't know what he would do if she rejected him here. He wasn't asking for sex, he was asking for love. For acceptance. For her to be his from here on out. Maybe sex was the less scary option of all those. But he couldn't deny what his heart wanted after all this time.

If she left him now he would forever be crushed. Please dear god don't let her leave me again, he prayed.

His kiss came as a surprise, one she hadn't been too shocked by. It was soft and gentle, and it made her heart ache. Julie gasped a little as his lips pressed to hers. The look in his eyes had been loving, caring. His hands on her hips weren't intrusive. That's when Julie realised.

This wasn't about sex. This was about love. He loved her.

She had guarded her heart when her husband left, and she broke their kiss. She hadn't kissed a man since her husband. She moved back, her hand fluttering up, her fingers touching her lips where he had kissed her.

"Kevin..." Her voice was thick with emotion. "I don't know...what to do... I...-"

Julie moved to him again, leaning her forehead against him and sighing. She looked up into his eyes, the eyes she knew so well. The ones that would never break her heart.

He was her best friend, her oldest friend. They had so much history together. She didn't want to ruin that, or lose him.

'This could be such a mistake....' She thought as she closed her eyes, pressing her lips to his again, kissing him so softly, so carefully.

Kevin for a moment was so tense, so fearful that she would panic and run away from him. He feared that it would be too soon for her, too soon to let herself admit her readiness to move on with her life. To move on with him. they kissed lightly and Kevin let his hands run along her back under the water.

She broke the kiss, but not his embrace and expressed that she didn't know what to do. Kevin only smiled and shifted them both back onto the seat of the hot tub and pulled her into his lap.

"Do what ever you like." He smiled, running his fingers across her cheek. "I love you Julie, never doubt that, never doubt me. I'm here for you and whatever you need or want." He told her, his voice holding just a hint of sex about it.

Julie shuffled a little as she sat in his lap, before moving off and sitting next to him. She reached for her wine and drained the glass for courage, then poured herself another one.

She cast him shy glances, a little intimidated with the way their relationship had turned.

"Is that why you and Clark hated each other? Did he know that you felt this way? Or am I just completely clueless..."

She started to think of the times she had mentioned Kevin. If he had been on TV or in the newspapers. Clark used to get really tense when Julie praised him openly, and declared how they should head back to Portland to visit.

She frowned. "Oh... God. I can't believe I never knew."

Kevin shrugged and glanced over at her, "I hated Clark because he was an asshole. I hated him even more because somehow he prevented you from seeing how much of a fucking asshole he was." He explained, "But yeah he probably knew how much I cared for you. I think he knew that deep down you had feelings for me and feared that if you ever came to see me I might steal you away or something."

He sighed and grabbed his glass, finishing half of it. "To be honest I would have tried. Well maybe not...All I wanted was for you to be happy, and I believed that you would have been happier with me."

Glancing at her he said, "I don't know. I just want.....you."

Julie looked down into her glass. She didn't know how to react.

"He hated it when I mentioned you. If I saw a review in the paper, or you were on TV or the radio..." She smiled brightly. "Like when the restaurant opened, and the news channel did the coverage in Portland. I was so excited, seeing you give that interview and seeing so many people I knew... He went crazy. He switched the TV off and we had a huge fight..."

She shrugged. "I remember after that fight, he went out. Stayed in a hotel that night. I remember lying in bed and thinking about our prom..." She blushed. "About what might have happened if we had got together. I'd have been a chef's wife, maybe we'd have had kids. Maybe we'd be living in this house together..." She sipped her wine. "Like an alternate universe. Maybe there is an alternate universe where that happened." Julie smiled fondly.

"That'd be swell."

Kevin listened to her talk about all the times she saw him on the TV or newspaper. He listened to her talk about the prom where they went together and thought about what could have happened if they had hooked up instead of her and Clark.

He heard her think about being married to him, having kids, living in this house. He glanced at her and shrugged, "You act like it's too late for that. We're only twenty seven Julie. There is nothing stopping us from starting our lives together right here and right now." He told her.

He put his arm around her shoulders, "I'd do anything for you. I'd give you a porsche, a home, a baby...anything you want." He confessed.

She looked at him, a giddy smile on her lips. "You wouldn't want to be tied down to all that, Kevin. You have the restaurant. And I'm sure there's a queue of women who would gladly beat me to the dirt to get a chance with you."

Julie rested her head against his shoulder and stretched her legs. "Besides, what's to say we wouldn't kill each other?"

Kevin laughed, "A slew of women? I'm sorry but have you even seen a woman around me since you got here? Where was my slew of women at the barbaque?" He hugged her, "Julie you are the only one for me. Besides if we haven't killed each other after all these years I think were pretty safe."

He smiled, "You like my cooking right? Just think of me around cooking all the time. You will have the best meals everyday. Though I need to be careful not to make you fat." He teased.

Julie smiled, moving across to the other side of the hot tub and sitting opposite him, looking at him.

"Kevin, I need time. I mean, I can't deny I have feelings for you too, but I just... I still need to heal. It hasn't been easy, and I don't want to enter into a relationship with you without being totally ready. I don't want to hurt you, or myself..."

She sighed and looked into the bubbles. "Everything you can offer me, everything you're saying is what I want... A home, kids... But this is all so sudden."

Kevin smiled, "Time I have." Though secretly he was disappointed. Women needed so much time for no reason. There was nothing more perfect than the two of them together, why couldn't she just let herself have this? Clark was a fucking piece of shit and he treated her like a piece of shit and she should flush him from her heart and her memory like a piece of shit.

Still if time is what she needed then Kevin would back off. Pushing her into being with him would do nothing more than push her away. He smiled and slapped the edge of the hot tub.

"You ready to see your new car?" He asked.

HE got out of the tub and grabbed a towel off a nearby bench, drying himself quickly before wrapping the towel around his waist.

"Come on." He urged.

He was willing to wait even more for her. Julie put her hand over her heart, feeling like it was fit to burst. He had waited over six years, and was still willing to wait for her. She didn't love Clark, she hadn't loved him for a long time...

...and yet here stood Kevin. Her best friend, her entire life. He'd known her since she was three, they'd come through school together, college. She couldn't bear the disappointment in his face. As he wrapped the towel around his waist, he asked her if she wanted to see her new car.

Julie nodded, rising up out of the tub, pulling her bath sheet around herself. She moved to his side.

"Alright, let's go see this car I am BORROWING..." She grinned, nudging him.

Kevin snorted, "Borrowing my ass." He told he leading her through the halls to the garage. He opened the door and clicked on the light revealing his sleek black Porsche all wrapped up with a big red bow and a tag that said Julie on it. He waved his hands in front of her face and said, "Ta-Da!"

He grinned and looked at her, "You sure you are just borrowing it?" He teased, knowing she would go crazy for the car especially once she started driving it around. "I'd give you the key now, but we are both drunk and neither of us are driving anywhere tonight."

It was a beautiful piece of craftsmanship... The way the light glinted off the sleek black finish of the car, Julie was bewitched. She moved up to it, her fingers tracing along the hood of the car, up to the windscreen.

"It's gorgeous," she whispered, in awe. She could just imagine the way it would feel to drive it, the vibrations, the low hum of the engine. She rolled her eyes, leaning against the Porsche, her body curving a little. She looked back at Kevin, a seductive look in her eyes. "You remembered how I am about cars..." She looked down at the shiny black beauty. "I can't resist it, it's so beautiful."

She sighed, turning, leaning her back against the car and pulling him towards her. "I should thank you..." Julie looked down shyly, and then up at him through her eyelashes. She leaned forward, closing her eyes, and waiting for him to kiss her...

Kevin smiled and put his hands on her hips as she leaned into him. "You are most certainly welcome." He told her, leaning down to kiss her again. He felt herr kiss him back and couldn't resist flicking his tongue over her lips, just to taste her a little bit.

He pulled back just a bit and asked, "What do you want to do now? Anything at all." He said, "More hot tub, movie, bed, name it."

He was happy to see her really enjoy the car. He knew that she could protest it all she wanted but once she got her hands on it, drove it, she wouldn't be able to resist it. The smile on her face was more than worth everything else.

As he flicked his tongue over her lips, she gasped. Her body shivered, and she opened her eyes, realising he was speaking. Movie, hot tub, or bed. She felt something inside of her stirring. And then she realised he had pulled back from her.

Julie couldn't help herself. Her hands snaked up behind his shoulders, up his neck, and she wound her fingers into his hair, pulling him against her, into her kiss.

She didn't say anything, just moved her body against him, feeling his hard chest against her towelled body. She kissed him a little harder, her tongue gently licking out against his teeth, finding his tongue as she rose up on her tiptoes, pulling him against her.

She needed him, and as she groaned into their kiss, it was obvious to her. Finally obvious.

Kevin grunted as she pulled him back against her, her lips covering his. Her tongue pushed into his mouth and he moaned in delight and surprise. His hands wrapped around her, sliding up slowly to the top of the towel and jerking it open. Her body was pressed against his so closely that the towel was trapped between them. When it fell it would only reveal her swimsuit, but that was all he was in so it didn't matter.

Their mouths worked together and Kevin felt himself growing hard and eager against her, his cock pushing against his shorts as if fighting to break free. He grunted and put his hands on her hips, suddenly he lifted her into the air, causing the towel to fall and he set her on the washing machine that was in the hallway. There he kissed her again, pushing his hips between her legs.

He couldn't believe it was finally happening. The girl of his dreams, and his everything, it was too good to be true.
