Hot Wheels

The diesel that GM used in those days never should have made it off the manufacturing floor. There were so many problems with them. Unfortunately, some VP somewhere that had no business being a VP decided to go ahead and put those not only in Oldsmobile's but in Cadallic's, too. Very expensive mistake for GM.

It was a quick fix for MPG ratings and was never fully worked out. They tried to make a diesel out of a gas block, if I remember correctly.
Something like that. Was a garbage engine, but if you can find one, the block is good for a stout 350 build- regular gas powered build. Like the 262 v6, they were in damn near everything, even the ½ton trucks. In the LMC catalogs I had for my 77 K10, it was listed as a non tow rated passenger or fuel ecomomy diesel.

yep, exactly, it was a gasoline block that they tried to make into a diesel block. I remember all of the problems that they had and if I remember correctly, GM was actually sued over the fiasco, because of the poor reliability, poor performance and the low milage.

Yeah, but the block is actually a bit beefier than a standard 350 block, but it was made virtually the same and probably on the same lines. That's what they get for trying to save money.
