I'm afraid this is simply bullshit. The first three commandments are simply tyrannical attempts to instill fear ("Thou shalt have no other god before me") in those who might be dubious about the nonexistent omnipotent being. There is a warning that the "sins of the father" will be visited on their children, which is simply wrong: we do not punish children for the sins of their parents, do we?The Ten Commandments stand as one of the most enduring moral codes in human history.
Then there are the "Thou shalt not kill" etc. rules. Have to say, if you need to read these in a religious text instead of being rational enough to figure them out for yourself, I don't see much in the way of brains in your head!
Then there is the stuff about "coveting." Never mind the disturbing reference to the wife as being the property of the husband, but the idea that mere thoughts will be punished is the quintessential religious method of trying to persuade everyone that they are somehow soiled by "impure thoughts" and so worthy of punishment.
"Thoughtcrime" is the term used by Orwell.
And where are the prohibitions of slavery, rape, cruelty to children, etc.? Nowhere, of course. Slavery, in fact, is actually endorsed elsewhere in your scripture.
