I'm a n00b in the likes of starting a role play or trying to start one on here and really really really want to do so... suggestions? ideas? haaaaalp!

Well, make an OC thread first. Specify whether you are looking for one person or several, whether you want to play in the forum or more privately, whether you want to used some established roleplay system such as D&D or be freeform, whether you want people to submit their profile to you before posting it, whether you want people to pair off before posting in the /IC thread, whether your roleplay is based on some anime series or book or is original, and describe your idea for the roleplay. Its also nice to mention if you are friendly toward gay rp, rape rp, raunch, and characters that aren't strictly human, or whether you want to avoid any/all of those topics.

One thing not to do is say that all men must take role X and all women must take role Y. Aside from being sexist you will get less players that way.

One common problem in starting roleplays is that if you specify there are 2 types of characters, you will usually get a lot more players wanting to be one than the other. People want to be royalty, people want to be captives and mail-order brides, people want to be mutants with special powers, but somehow hardly anyone wants to be a pet owner, an ordinary soldier in a troop, anything that's less flashy. I'm still puzzling over how to deal with this.

I think once I get a good grounded solid post written, I'll be fine, royalty it be :D

There is also a sticky at the top of the SRP forum advertising threads that need players. You can PM someone who is offering a role that you'd like and start out that way. Or advertise there with an idea of your own.

Under your OOC thread title, before you post anything else, put 'open for 1 man and 2 women' or whatever. you can edit this once you have the players you need and people can see this when they move their mouse pointer over your thread title, which will encourage them to click.
