It occurs to me that a period when the same party controls both branches is exactly the right time to dismantle the Imperial Presidency -- because that is when it can be done without being in any way a partisan contest -- attention can be focused on the proper allocation of power between branches, not between parties.

The one where they shit canned Chevron Deference.
That don't amount to much -- I'm not talking about agencies, I'm talking about the presidency itself. That is what has too much power that Congress should have instead.

This is timely because the general tendency of Project 2025 is to make the presidency even more imperial.

The issue is that congress has to have the balls to deal with Executive Orders. There's this case from the 50s involving contractors and the department of defense that's much narrower than everyone wants it to be. It is used to justify all the legislation by the president. That has to be what happens. Just keep in mind that restricted presidential power works against both parties. Love it now, don't whine about it later and vice versa.

Usually there is no good reason to mess with an EO. Its either a genuine emergency or its basically correcting a typo. The biggest issue here of course is that in many cases Congress doesn't actually want control. This is especially true of various war powers.

You ask the wrong question.
How do we strip the ABCs of unelected and unintended power?

The problem is not the agencies, it is the presidency itself. You seem to be thinking in terms of a unitary executive arrangement that would strip the agencies of what political independence from the White House they have now -- but that would only make the imperial-presidency problem worse.

What would be the point of repealing the 17th Amendment?

your time is over, you can't do anything but cry and complain about it here, in threads that age like old old milk. because you are just not smart people. your brain usage is stunted by TDS. And we find in comical, like clown shoes comical. go on entertain us more!

This is not a partisan question -- Pubs control both Congress and the WH at the moment, so it is not about which party rules. It is about which branch rules. It should be Congress, which is always more representative of, and responsive to, the people. The imperial presidency is everybody's problem, regardless of the partisan lineup. It is a problem that continues from one administration to the next, the president acquiring ever more power in an irreversible rachet effect.

Step 1. Find a candidate that has a half ounce of brains.
Step 2. When you realize there might not be a dumbocrat with that quality, start praying to some guy wearing a dress.
Step 3. Quit your bitching.
