how do you make an animated Avatar?

I have not tried it but I believe any animated GIF file should work. You can download a free program to create animated GIFs here.

If you try it let us know how you made out.

Not just any animated GIF will work, because it still has to meet the pixel and filesize limits for an avatar. The filesize limitation of 15KB is the biggest problem with animated avatars

However, you are correct that animated avatars must be GIFs and an animation editor than can produce animated GIFs is required.

I remember a year or so ago Harold tried to help me get an animated gif down to Avatar size. We both found that it was impossible and I went home crying. The 15kb is killer.
