I mack-hand unsubmissively anyone who pronounces with such uncouth mispronunciation as Mar-kiss.

While DVS was kind enough to explain his "not of the two options" way of pronouncing Marquis, the original Three Cunteteers have not.

Give it up, ladies! How do _y'all_ pronounce "Marquis"?

Me, I pronounce it "mar-KEE", with the emphasis on the second syllable. According to Webster, it may be prounced that way or "mar-kwis". So don't be bashful, you cunning linguists... *grin*

Mar-kwis is how I do it.

It's French originally, so I pronounce it as such. No 'u' or 'w', no 's' in the end.

French so traditionally it would be Mare-kee with a gutteral roll at the end of the first syllable...i think.

I pronounce it Mar-kee, like anyone with an ounce of intelligence or culture would. And with a slight roll to the "r".

How perfectly devastating for the Houghton Mifflin Company, publishers of the American Heritage Dictionary.

Check out the first listing under 'Pronunciation'.

I'm shocked. Shocked.

Perhaps you can give them a call, and set them straight.

After that..... perhaps you could look up the definition of 'class'......
