How Does Hair Affect Your Perception of Sexuality?

I have had the same old "psuedo layered, pixie" for 20+ years, with only slight variations. My new boyfriend wants me to grow my hair to shoulder length to mid-back. Initially, I panicked about changing my hair, now I'm glad he pushed me outside my comfort zone, otherwise, I would probably have been in the nursing home with the same do.

My girl friends are annoyed that they have been telling me to change my hair style, some of them for 10+ years, and here I meet a man and bam, I'm changing my hair for him. I'm trying to settle on a new cut, I am hung up between straight and wavy. The color is whole other issue .

For men, I almost peed myself when I read the "bald is the new combover" comment. I like really rugged men to have a mustache and/or beard, but I'm a little weary of the goatee look. For most guys, I prefer a bald face, to me it exudes confidence and openess. While we're commenting on men's fashion, am I the only one that is glad that men wearing earrings is dead, for the most part?

I love playing with different styles in my hair. Be it colour or cut, I like hair that makes a statement! Now, what that statement might be all depends on how I'm feeling at the time I let my stylist get a hold of her tools.

My favourite look of the moment is the razored bob that has a severe angle and buzzed back. I did it in conjunction with a neck tattoo I got when I hit 32. Something about wanting a little rebellion in my life...not sure who I was rebelling against though.

On men...it really all depends on so many things. Bone structure was mentioned, but also the texture and fullness of his hair determines what kind of cut he should have. His personality dictates the rest I think. However, I don't particularly care for long hair - straight or curly. High and tight are really what I'm used to.

I love short hair on women. It's a confidence thing. Confidence is sexy.
Currently, my hair is the longest it has probably ever been. I do have some harsh pointed bangs, I think I look like an evil Disney villan or something.
I got way more compliments from men with my short hair, so I don't buy the common thought that men want long hair. Now, I get asked if my hair is a wig more than anything (like many times a night). Still not sure if that's a compliment or not?
However, there's a big difference between a pixy cut and a buzz cut. To me a pixy is sexy and buzz means crazy. You can blame Snead and Britney Spears for that I guess.

As for men, I find short, clean cut hair very sexy. I love to pet men's hair. I've read that bald men have more testosterone and are more sexually charged, but he's got to have amazing features for me to find him attractive. Long hair on men does nothing for me.

Could you link to (or post) a pic of the shortest-haired woman that you find sexy? I suspect that the short hair means confidence thing is real and I'm interested in seeing examples that women find sexy.

I need my coffee but in the mean time, Linda Evangelista and Charlize Theron are two of my girl crushes I find amazingly beautiful and sexy with short hair. So much more sexual than when they have long.
Riana (sp?) and Halley Berry also look much sexier with short cuts. Although their hot messes of lives make them too unattractive to be helped by any haircut.

Lemme get some coffee in me and I'll post some pics.

Ok bear with me, I'm doing this on my phone and the pics may be tiny
Let's take Charlize...
Super cute

Sexy very short

Then she went for a buzz.... Too far. I suppose for me the buzz lacks any style. I need a bit of fringe.

She still looks sexier than with the long hair IMO

2 1/2 weeks later, and I find myself "petting" the shortest bit in the back whenever I'm stressed, just to get the risidual kinky endorphin kick and help me focus. The Men have both seen it now & agree its adorable (more so because of the story behind it); one feels the urge to pet me & the other likes seeing my neck so exposed.

I used to pet the buzzed back of my neck/head incessantly when my hair was short. I miss that.

I vote 2 and 4.

I guess this theory falls flat for me.

I'd love to see Linda with long and planned hair, that hair looks much less planned.

Well, no. 1 for Charlize, for me, but I was looking for really short examples to answer MWY question.

Oh, for Linda, you can find the "long planned hair" just google her name and millions of images pop up. She look less dramatic, more soccer mom, to me.

Actually for both long hair examples, I purposely looked for an event/pro shot, not a candid TMZish one.

Forgive me the following ramble, my thoughts are provoked but not in any semblance of good order.

Perhaps short hair on women suggests a subconscious assosciation with masculinity and the cliche traditional traits that tend to be attached to being male; power, dominance...so the appeal is perceived strength.

Perhaps with short hair there's nothing to hide behind or coyly flirt with. No tossing your hair back, or the rise and fall of breasts as you brush it. You're forced to see the woman, and acknowledge the face thus the person. It's a 'see me' statement.

Perhaps it's the suggestion of a carefree attitude. Someone who has better things to do than spend hours making something soft, shiny, stylish. It suggests a carelessness about something that is purely vanity.

Perhaps long hair is considered sexy because after sex it gets messy and tousled. The idea that a woman would 'let her hair down', that she would allow herself to get disheveled, that her public grooming can be undone by passion...

I'm not sure any of those, or some combination of those, is true.

For myself, I've had man short hair, longer pixie cuts, undercuts, ass length and every variation in between.

Right now it's mid back length, in choppy uneven lengths that were achieved by me tipping my head upside down and cutting straight across with the kitchen scissors. It's between shades because I can't decide if I can face being predominantly grey at 32, so the previous home dye job still lingers. It's got a bit of natural loose curl, a lot of frizz, some straight bits...My hair is as confused as I am. The funny part is, I've seen photos of my mum in the late sixties and early seventies and my hair looks almost exactly like hers before she went into perm mode and turned herself into poodle woman for years.

I've considered going to a longer pixie cut again, but think aesthetically I need to loose a lot of weight first. Without ego, I can say I have very striking bone structure and features, the kind of face you look twice at then try to figure out if it's beautiful or not. Unfortunately, under the weight I'm carrying right now, I have no features at all. My face is a blob and short hair wouldn't do me any favours.

I guess, ultimately, hair is an expression of personality. Some people project who they are, some people project what they want you to see.

i like guys with mid to long hair and like facial hair also i dont like bald its creepy

I go with all of the above. :rose:

Did you all see Charlize at the Oscars? SWOON!!!!!

Alicia Keys also just cut her hair short and it looks amazing!

Yes, and as soon as I saw Theron I was reminded of this thread. Of course, I think she'd look perfectly fetching in a rainbow Harpo wig, so what do I know?

Michelle Williams looks so so so so good with short hair. Yum.

I'm pretty picky with guys though. I've always had a thing for bald/shaved heads, but they have to be the rough and sexy Jason Statham type, not the Tobias from AD or the Walter White Breaking Bad type.

I don't like the beard or mustache (I call it the pussy hair look) at all but I can enjoy bald men visually.

I can also enjoy long hair and any length on a guy.

Girl's rarely look really good with very short hair. They need to have a certain facial shape for it to work. I'm not a huge fan of it but a few are hot that way.

I love long hair on a woman and on me in particular.

:rose:

How about you? Do you respond to hair/short or no-hair in this same way or differently?

It really all depends on the structure of the face as to whether I like a certain style on people, but I've always been drawn to an edgier cut for women. It makes me think there's a more dynamic person under the hair...which is totally superficial, I know. But I always think they might have some really cool stories to tell. On a sexual level...I've been with goth boys who rocked the straight and long, clean cuts that left my palms itching to caress the softness of it, and biker dude with the shaved head and yummy goatee. My perception of them was not influenced by their hair or lack thereof, but how they carried themselves, how they demonstrated their interests to me. The LOOK was just window dressing on already appealing structures.

That being said, personally I don't care if my hair is long or short. I do it for my husband and whatever he likes. I have had funky cuts that made me feel sexy, confident and embraces my 30's Longer hair like I have now, which is his preference keeps me looking more like I'm in my 20's - it's soft and feminine, which has it's appeal I suppose.

I don't do short hair, it's never been less than shoulder length. Its currently waist length at the longest point. I'm not attracted to short hair in women at all, and bald/close cropped is a turn off on men mostly.

This is interesting, I got WAY more action and compliments from men when I had short hair.

I never found bald headed woman to be attractive. Maybe because growing up the woman that were bald headed did it for religious reasons so it was rude to say anything. I don't have a problem with short hair, but I do like long hair

On a man I think bald men are attractive. I only like long hair on a man if it looks healthy, not the scraggly strands some men keep and certainly not a mullet.

Ugh sorry posted too quick

In short, yes hair would effect my perception of sexuality in the way I would look at them as a potential mate
