I can't believe nobody's mentioned Rufus Wainwright. Come on now!

From the song "Gay Messiah":

No, it will not be me
Rufus the Baptist I be
No, I won't be the one
Baptised in cum

What will happen instead
Someone will demand my head
And then I will kneel down
And give it to them
Looking down

Awesome. He's one of my favourite artists. :D

(MapleB is me, by the way; I forgot that I had an existing Lit screen name until I came across one of my old posts, and was like, "Oh yeah, that's what that was!" XD)

Yeah. Rufus Wainwright is the new gay visionary in music. I have to say, though, that I find his musical vision very creative, but his personality is a little bit off-putting. He's kind of arrogant. Not that he's not allowed to be; he's got a lot to be proud of, musical lineage, current achievements, etc.

So I'll add:
-Dusty Springfield
-The Pet Shop Boys
-Either all three or just two of the guys in the B-52's (Fred and Ricky definitely. Ricky was)
-Augusten Burroughs
-Branwell Bronte (brother of the three Bronte sisters) - I think he was gay, not positive though. And I can't say that I don't have my own personal opinion that even though she eventually married a man, Charlotte herself probably got busy with her friend Ellen Nussey, and goodness knows who else.

Hmm. Literary outing... ;)

duh.

Woops, sorry guys- I must have taken leave of my literacy because I mentioned authors.
Oh well :)

I would always call an author an artist (and have - Rimbaud and Verlaine)... Here are some more:

Jeanette Winterson (Strangers Aren't the Only Fruit, Written on the Body)
Samuel R. Delaney (Dhalgren, Times Square Red / Times Square Blue)
Dorothy Allison (Bastard out of Carolina, Cavedweller)

Sid Vicious was bi. (Sex Pistols)
Kurt Cobain was bi. (Nirvana
Half of My Chemical Romance are gay/bi.
Half of The Used are gay/bi.
Billie-Joe Armstrong is bi. (Greenday)
Maynard James Keenan is bi. (A Perfect Circle, Tool)
Tarja is bi. (ex Nightwish)

Speaking of GBL arists...

I saw Tim Curry in London yesterday. I began to give chase, but he clocked me I think. I had to return to the restaurant to pay them and finish my dinner. I bolted out after him leaving my friend in there eating.

After five complete pages, you haven´t even mentioned Erasures leadsinger Adam Bell, who is openly gay . That is what I call weird, or is it just because I am a former huge (but not fanatic in anyway) Depeche Mode fan. And I like synthpop alot ? what puzzles me even further is that, first at the fifth page, I find Pet Shop Boys as gay people ?

hmmm a Danish singer , Anne Linnet is bi, by the way. And well that is fine and dandy with me really :) heck I think that there are really many gay, or bisexual artists in Denmark. But I don´t know for sure, since I am not the person who runs with gossip to the stinking tabloid magazines, if I knew anything in that direction.

What?!

Okay, where the hell was I?! Michael Stipe, Tom Hanks, David Geffen, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ricky Martin, Lucy Liu, and Sean William Scott?! WTF?! Please tell me some of these are speculation, because I hadn't heard any of these people were out of the closet! Was I on another planet??

Apparently I was, because I had no idea that Versace died!

I also have tons of stand-up from Margaret Cho on my computer where she emphatically states that she is NOT a lesbian, that she loves boys, but she's just a huge fag hag.

Ani DiFranco is also not a lesbian. She is bisexual, and due for a baby in February.

Angelina Jolie is also admittedly bisexual, not lesbian.

And Robert Smith is SO not gay! Last I heard, he was on his like 18th anniversary with his wife. He's gloriously adorable, but this is a definite case of taken, not gay. (They're always one or the other, aren't they?)

Ciara (R&B singer) came out on the show 106 & Park last year, but has since started dating Lil Bow Wow, so everyone has just assumed that she's technically bisexual.

Ne-Yo (R&B singer) also recently came out as gay.

Ugh, I know there was more, but I'm drawing a blank. I was amazed that Rufus Wainwright wasn't mentioned until so far down the line!

And I heard an interview with the Tatu girls once that said that they are not, in fact, lesbians, but knew that would get attention, so that's why they did the video... ?

Her name was Lola...

Wolfman, you didn't know the Pet Shop Boys were both gay? They've been out for quite awhile, as I understand...
Deluge, you're not completely out of the loop- I think the Arnold and Tom outings were speculation. They've both been married to women for a really long time (Maria Shriver and Rita Wilson, respectively).
Also, last I heard Lucy Liu was engaged to a British male playwrite.
But Michael Stipe has been out for awhile now, too.

And because of what happened last week, we can add Neil Patrick Harris to the list, eh?
Also, a few of the members of Scissor Sisters are gay. So was Anthony Perkins, the guy who played Norman Bates in Psycho, despite the fact that he was married had had a child- Oz Perkins, who was in a Psycho sequel, the number of which, I cannot remember. Anthony Perkins actually died of AIDS.

And let's not forget the ever immortal, king of the commerical jingle:
Mr. Barry Manilow :)

bluebell7: of course I knew they were gay, I am just surprised, that first on the fifth page, it came through. Eeerhm haven´t I written that clearly enough ? :) the first time ? :)

Don't mean to be rude, and I know that the question asked about openly gay artists but bi folks don't count then? Even those who are queer identified? Ah well... :rose:

My bad

Sorry Wolf.
Guess I didn't read all that carefully. I shall go and punish my eyes straight away.
I think some repeat viewings of Nick Nolte's mugshot should do wonderfully ;)

Don´t worry :) on the cheek :)

...

Wasn't trying to offend. I was just pointing out where earlier certain people had been listed as "gay", that they were, in fact, "bi"... Not a big deal, just little details. :)

Blast From The Past!

DRACULA was Gay

Abraham ("Bram") Stoker
(November 8, 1847 - April 20, 1912) Ireland

Writer
Bram Stoker was born the third of seven children, in Dublin, to a civil servant, Abraham Stoker, and to Charlotte Thornley (20 years his father's junior). After suffering a long yet mysterious childhood illness, Stoker went to Trinity College, Dublin. While at Trinity College, in 1876 he met Henry Irving, a well known actor of the day for whom Stoker would eventually end up spending 27 years working as publicist and theater manager.

Sir Henry Irving was a gay actor and theatre owner, and Bram became his personal secretary, following him to London. According to the Irish documentary Dracula's Bram Stoker (2003), Stoker's papers and letters reveal that, although married, the writer secretly loved men (he wrote love letters to the gay U.S. poet Walt Whitman), and that he had became obsessed with Irving.

Journalist, drama critic and editor with The Evening Mail, he is the author of eighteen books, including his famous 1897 novel Dracula, which became the inspiration of countless films, plays, even a Royal Winnipeg Ballet production and resulting Guy Maddin film, Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary. Some experts now believe that Irving, a very dominant personality, was actually Stoker's inspiration for Count Dracula.

Well he is definitely Bi, as are both Siouxsie and Budgie.

Sid Vicious was bi. (Sex Pistols)

And John Simon Ritchie here, definitely wasnt Bi, I used to know his mum really well and dated his cousin for 6 months too.
