How to Get Over Turning 40

If you're 40, you're still a puppy. If you're asking for a suggestion for something to do, try this: Sober up, get showered, shined and shaved, put on some good clothes and take your wife to dinner.

Meh - it's just a number. Turned 40 this year and so far, so good. Whenever I get the inevitable "over the hill" jokes, I quip back with - "yes - and ready to roll!"

Today is my first full day as a 69-er .... So far so good! But as they say, the day is still young & with a little effort I can no doubt screw things up if I put my mind to it!

I jokingly told a friend yesterday that I was really quite excited at the thought of a whole year of being "69" it being a favorite of mine; I just hoped that will be fully "up" for it for the whole year.

What I am a bit apprehensive about is next year - 40-69 have been really good years ... but 70?? Now that looks a bit scary from here.

I'm 69 also. My actual age doesn't scare me as much as the loss of health; I spent the last year without much health. Now, that is scary.

Probably the guys who are asking the questions are the one’s who are reading the books! Ever read any of them?

Turning 40 was a miserable day in my life, as was turning 41. I don't want to get old, I don't want to look old and I don't want to feel old. I'm not one of those people who say 'age is just a number' or 'you're as old as you feel'. Bollocks to that...I want to be young again...For every year that I get older, I'll also get a little more pissed off about it...The only way I can deal with it, is to grow old as disgracefully as I possibly can...

I'd say for me turning 40 was worse then turning 50 but I think that had more to do with what was going on in my life at the time.

I will second what Sunlover says, wait until you hit 60, i just did on august 20th. I agree 40 can be pretty eye-opening and so can 50 ........

Holy thread necromancy Batman.....the OP was from 2004...wonder how he feels now that he is closer to 50? :)
40 this year and so far no big deal. I don't FEEL old and my wife says I still act like a child...but maybe that wasn't meant to be a compliment...

OK, I'm drunk off my ass as I write this, so I'd like to know...

How the heck did you handle turning 40? I tried to treat it as no big deal, but my wife and friends insisted on making a big deal of it. What were YOU'RE emotions upon hitting the big four-oh? How did you handle it? Did you throw a big bash? Low-key affair? Did you and your SO/wife fuck like you were 21?

I didn't. I turned 40 in January, and escaped to Vegas, and had a great time with a good buddy of mine. But I am still pissed.

Damn, that clock is starting to tick loudly.....I feel like time is zooming by!

:D

I loved turning 40! I actually looked forward to it and the start of a whole new chapter of my life.

I also insisted that I wanted a surprise party. I didn't expect it.. but I got one anyways. lol. And yes, it was a surprise.
