The range within acceptable public discourse takes place. Anything outside it is not to be taken seriously.
Of course that can change abruptly. When the women's suffrage movement started, the idea was outside the Overton Window. Just too weird. In 1920, taking the vote AWAY from women suddenly was outside the window, a thing so politically impossible nobody would try. The issue of slavery changed just as abruptly and decisively in 1865.
Now, I believe what America needs more than anything else is a push left right now, towards left-progressive social democracy, fighting the plutocracy, and so on. So that's what we'll work on here. A thread for moving the window right is of course conceivable, and anyone inclined to start one is invited to die.
Now, on the left side, what things would you say are JUST outside the exisiting window, which might be brought inside if enough attention were brought to them? I'm thinking there's nothing suffrage- or slavery-scale now in play, it will have to move by slow increments.
And what things on the right could be driven by scorn and ridicule beyond the pale of serious discussion? We gotta work BOTH edges of the window here.
