I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum.

Bows humbly - I completely agree with your comments.

The self defense class is taught by two women who are black belts in Hawaiian Kempo.

We spent the last part of class focusing - breathing - learning to control our minds and thoughts.

It was incredibly relaxing - and it is something I've been needing in my life.

They even sent us home with "homework." We are supposed to practice soothing our minds every day (they told my daughter to take a break from gameboy and do it!).

Good policy, very healthful. I'm so glad I signed her up for that class!

Gradification~

Excellent~

There is something to be said about a body
that is in tip top shape, runs like a smooth
running engine, therefore the mind is happier
and more prone to well being. Which is great
for young and old.

There is so much more to Martial Arts
and self defense, than just fighting...a way of
life that is harmonious with nature and when
the mind is not riddled with fear for protection
it is easier to find tranquility,

Breathing is essential every second of life and
is the first thing you run out of in confrontation
so you sound as though your being directed into
a great course. Homework? well the mind is
always thinking about it so home or work outs
....sharpen the mind...train the body....enrich
the spirit....bows...humble....Art

A lady....

Georgia Girl...

Martial Arts, students, parents and Instructors

its wonderful to share with those who
understand the training....it's lit's only Karate thread
that I know of....enjoy....Art

Thank you!

I certainly will check it out!

You know what was wonderful for me last evening was to watch the change in my daughter. She's a very intelligent but somewhat shy elementary school kid.

At first she was too embarrased to raise her voice or even look the instructors in the eye. But after she became accustomed to the situation she began to lift her arms in front of her. Palms out, facing the unknown (not fists, fists would be in my class, lol).

She started staring the adults down, and I could see her self-confidence growing. When she started to shout "No!" and "Back off!" it was positively terrifying.

(But as soon as she was done the giggles started - thank God she's still a little girl!)

Of course this training is something I pray she'll never have to use. But I think it has already given her a solid boost of her own self-worth.

I so much enjoy hearing that...
and I enjoy so much watching my students blossom
they come in not knowing what to expect and in
as little a one class they're already showing signs
of willingness to better themselves...

I put my students thru sinarios where they confront
what they might encounter at school or play, so they
understand the reason and what to do...and how much
they can hurt someone, so not to unless absolutly
nessicary...pride and pushing and all taht goes with
confrontation on verbal levels and how they turn into
physical and why, then teach them evassive moves...
I stay current with the principals of their schools and
they always ....(so far) say great things about their
developement...and rarley do they fight...rather
encourage others to come to class...

I teach them it is better to extend an open hand
than to swing a closed fist....

well its great to share these with your daughter...
I only have had a few that participated with their
kids...I think that is great.

Now the correctional officers and sheriffs dept...
well they're heads are swoll up before I get them and
my first task is to humble them...so your starting
at a great mentality...empty glass

smiles...Art

Nahhh, I'm peaceful (and besides, I'm still learning). Amicus is the only one who needs to worry! (although I'm thinking about Blarneystoned these days, too - lol)

I'm glad to hear you're going back to weight training. It is a wonderful feeling!

:)
