I like Trains

Nothing fails because it's run by the government, not even the VA.

Yes, it does. So please try and control your Pavlovian response to each and every challenge to your very successful but unfortunate experiences in ideological mind control.

There's nothing quite like the sound of 1,500 horsepower's worth of EMD 645 12-cylinder prime mover in a GP15-1 diesel engine when it's throttled up eight feet away.

That's the deep-throated sound of power. I was close enough to vibrate.

HAARP Power Plant

You could be in a room with 5 2500 kilowatt generators being driven by EMD 20-645-E4 diesel locomotive engines.

Denny

After 23 years of few trains, we moved back from Florida to the mid west. We are a half mile from a new highway bypass and slightly more than a mile from a RR crossing across that highway. As the train continues it crosses then runs along a county road around another mile south of the first crossing.

What a great surprise. We had forgotten about that north/south RR line. Now several times each day and night we here the whistle blowin' at two RR crossings. Reminders of yet another RR track that used to be in the corn field maybe 1/4 mile from our house.
Trains are disappearing fast in the USA. As kids we watched the coal fired black locomotives switch and pass on our way to school. Mashed many penny under those big steel wheels.

Not to burst your bubble but for nostalgia and tiny yard switching, that may be fine.
Today our units put out 4400 hp. Quite a thump in the chest with one, better with more. My best train is what some of you rail fans call the caterpillar. We call the triple penetrator. 9, 4400 hp locomotives in a 5 by 2 by 2 configuration grain train. Figure out the horse power math on that one. Pretty impressive.

I am well aware of the ES44 series.

The GP15-1 that I described runs on a short line that is adjacent to the bike path that I frequent. That gives me easy access; I am able to talk with the engineers.

Don't get me wrong bro. I love that you love trains. Just remember that on pics like the last one, not all units are online. The caterpillar is one that can have the most online for power but it is still speed restricted.

Originally the name of a legendary ship much like the Flying Dutchman, except that not only has the crew mysteriously vanished, but they seem to have taken every penny of money on board with them. ;)
