I miss the fitness threads and the fitness Doms!

I spent two years on a small island with NO gym, nice or otherwise, training in high temps and 100% humidity. My weights were water bottles in plastic bags. My gym was a cement floor, a chair and an old speaker.

Shift your paradigm.

The joy of fitness is internal! :)

I truly love your enthusiasm for life. :) But, at least you had a beautiful environment for cardio, right? Did you run?

I ran every second day. As I said, the island was small...very small, which meant I had two routes. Even the most beautiful scenery gets ho hum when you see the same thing day after day after day. Trust me. ;)

Yes. I presently run/walk 4 miles. I'm finding it's a lot easier if I do it while the news is on at the gym (during the early morning or evening). I had 2 foot surgeries a few years ago, so it's taken a while to be able to run without issues.

I think I just need to get in the routine of schlepping up early to the "good" gym.

I'm usually very self-motivated with fitness, but something has really changed this year for me. Thank you for the encouragement!

Yes, seeing the same scene day after day, week after week, can get ho-hum. I trust ya!

*gets on plane to go smack Homburg upside the head*

Dude, come on. Every ten years. One needle. I'm terrified of the bloody things and I do it.

(Sorry, I'm only giving you the same talk my doctor gave me when my foot got infected. It makes loads of sense though.)

The infection last, oh, about 18 hours. I'm good. Your concern is appreciated though.

Rawr. Tough Homburg.

Back extensions with 35lb plate tonight!!!!

*does backflips*

:D:D:D

Forgive me if you've answered this in the previous 129 pages of this thread, but what is your exercise routine?

Also, have you ever heard of a program called "cross-fit"? A friend of mine from out of town does it, and she looks amazing.

Crossfit is good stuff.

Yes, I've heard really good things about cross fit.

I don't have a real fixed "routine" per se. I move/travel a lot so I work with whatever environment I have at my disposal. I used to be a hardcore gym rat for my job and I have a varied fitness background, so I pull bits and pieces to suit my needs. It works for me.

Currently I'm prepping myself for what I hope will be a spring/summer/fall full of mountain biking - so lots of spin classes, cardio, core work and weights focusing mostly on lower body.

But I love running and that's always my go-to fitness activity.

My long term goal is to do an Ironman before I'm 50. I'm 41.

Sorry if my answer is vague and unhelpful.

Is one able to do some of the exercises on their own at home? My gym doesn't have any of the special equipment.

Nope, that's helpful, thank you. You're adaptable and you do a lot of everything and work it! Best of luck-- I'll bet you complete that Ironman waaay before you're 50.

I should set a goal to do a 10k.

Within reason. You could put together a reasonable crossfit set-up in your garage without spending too much money.

Squat cage (as it would allow more variety of exercises than just a pair of squat stands) or a pair of squat stands and a pull-up bar of some sort

Proper weight bar and olympic bumper plates

A selection of kettlebells or dumbbells

Access to cardio stuff, either running, biking, rowing, etc

The reason crossfit can work in the home gym is that they have standard substitutions available for various movement. With a modicum of gear you can simulate the workout of the day. And often times the workout of the day requires no equipment. Those are frequently the most brutal days IMO.

Thanks, I'll catch the workouts that don't involve the equipment. I definitely want to start adding some variety!

I'm reading back and I'm finding this thread motivational.

Note to self: add protein shakes (i like the one with hemp powder, btw)

Tonight at the gym (naughty Puss didn't go last night ) -

Bike - 10 mins - 61 cals
AMT - 30 mins - 352 cals

If I don't ever return to Lit again, it's because I got tied up in knots at the yoga class I'm trying out tonight and never got undone.

I have a Krups juicer but I've not used it in a few years. Not sure they even make one any longer but a quick search at Amazon should tell you what's available.

Yes, there are a ton of them and im sure most are good. Just curious if there was one that was the BOMB. Thanks!
