I miss the fitness threads and the fitness Doms!

I'm not gaining weight, and I'm down a bit from recent months. For now, that's enough.

Oh, and still standing erect. Again, good enough.

I totally misread this the first time around.

I lost 2.8 pounds this week, and...

this means I have lost my first 5%!!!!

:nana::nana::nana:

I LIKE this new metabolic thing.

A few more pounds and I'll be less than 100 to lose, and then the next milestone is 10%. On the weekend I went to the mall. Fitting back into my jeans for the first time in years had been a big thing for me, and being able to buy a size smaller was another one. Plus I managed to find a type that fits me right, since proportionally I have a small waist and big hips. I found a "curvy" fit that eliminated the gape at my back. So overall I'm quite the happy camper.

I rewarded myself with 200 calories popcorn and a 149 calorie smoothie, entered into my diet plan, and I'm still on target as far as the deficit for the day. :)
Now everyone must give m snow day vibes for Wednesday.

My legs are killing me from my workout today: squats, hack squats, lunges, deadlifts, and good mornings. I'm probably going to be in pain for the next 3 or 4 days. . .

Growing stronger

Yay!

More pearls of wisdom from spin class, this time on hills night:

Climbing hills is like battling a gorilla. You don't quit when you get tired, you quit when the gorilla gets tired.

(During the final ten minutes) Release your inner goat!

(During the final three, grueling minutes) Ignore the little voice in your head, it lies!

I'm starting to feel really super duper on the bike. Can't wait until the snow's gone and I can ride for real. :D

I'm taking your and Homburg's advice and "rocking" the stationary bike. I've been measuring my exertion mostly by the distance traveled in the time elapsed (I run low on temperature, so it's really hard for me to break a sweat) and pulse/rpms as a secondary method. I just found out today it's kilometres, not miles, and I'm doing about 5.5 in 20 minutes. So I do a kilometre in about 3.6 minutes. Or roughly a 6 minute mile.

On Thursday, my mother told me I was looking skinnier but I figured it was because I was in my new exercise clothes (which are tighter). But then today I was standing in the hall and one of the other teachers told me she could tell, too. So with 2 comments in 24 hours I'm guessing it's finally starting to show. :)

My legs are definitely firming up from the bike, so it's not just pounds lost, it's inches, too. I'd forgotten that from the last time I rode a bike a lot.

It's kind of funny how I've been plodding along since November and now everything is going much better.

Enough is enough already!

I have been to the gym once this week. Temps have been well over 30C all week, it is a staggering 41C (106F) out there right now

I am waiting until this heatwave breaks next week before I venture out again, it is just TOO DAMN HOT!!

Awesomeness! Glad to hear things are going so well. I'm such a fan of biking for so many reasons.

Keep up the excellent work Brioche!! :D:D:D

Sorry, but these two side by side are just too hilarious. Too cold! Too hot! LOL.

Went to pump class this morning (won't make the combat class tonight cos Sir will be coming off the machine late) - had a male instructor for the first time in ages. Boy did he push us

Considering I haven't been to the gym for 6 days and it's 11 days since I did a pump class, I think I did pretty good! :D

Glad to see that you're hearing about your progress. That is the best feedback ever.

Do you mind talking about this metabolic thing you're doing? Or perhaps linking to info on it?

What kind of biking will you do?

You know once upon a time I could have written a bible on biking. However I hate it with a passion. When that gorilla stands between you getting home or not, it's not fun anymore.

LOL. Dude, all we have here are hills. So...yeah.

Mountain biking is what I'll do. I would like to road bike too (I miss my old triathlon bike :() but mountain biking is more practical for right now and there will only be room in the budget for one.

Hmm...budget constraints...
Get a mountain unicycle and a road unicycle. Then you'll have two?

I swear I've seen mountain unicycling somewhere.

Yeah, there's a dude here that does it. He's crazy though and I, I am...

Hm.

Just don't get all spandex and aerodynamic helmet.

Ha! Spandex yes - for a road bike. Aerodynamic helmet no. Shaving .3 seconds off my time would only mean the difference between 147th place and 146th place for me. ;)

Umm. Well, I'm on the Jenny Craig Metabolic Max program, which uses the Bodymedia goFit metabolic tracker, which is the same thing as the BodyBugg on the Biggest Loser (24 hour Fitness owns rights to the Bodybugg name). I wear this armband that tracks my metabolism and my steps and my minutes of moderate and vigorous activity (though I apparently haven't even done one second of vigorous activity, so it's a bit off there).

The part where it gets interesting is the website, where I enter exactly what I've eaten and it gives me an exact calorie count of calories in and calories burned. I sync my armband with my computer every night. I can see which points during the day I burned the most and the least calories. Sometimes I'm burning 8 calories a minute and sometimes just 2. It has my Jenny Craig food there, too. So I can tailor my goals to maintenance, .5, 1 or so on pounds. Right now I'm working on 2 pounds, but I need to fine tune things a bit because I'm burning too many calories on days I go to physio. I need to add some calories on those days or I lose control from hunger, because the deficit ends up being about 1500-1700. I'm only eating around 1700 calories a day!

To lose two pounds a week you need to have a calorie deficit of 1000 calories a day - that is, between your activity and eating less you need to burn 1000 more than you eat. The software keeps track of that, and your activity, and your steps, and how well you're sleeping, too.

Because I signed up for a year of Jenny Craig right off the bat I am a "premium" member, and so I got the armband and the display and 12 months of the website subscription for around $220, IIRC. I get discounts on just about everything. If you're not a premium member I think they charge you something like $400. I also got the black and green one instead of the grey one, which I think is prettier, but that was just luck. I like the display because I can sync it to my armband and find out up to the minute results on how many calories I've burned, how many minutes of activity, how many steps, etc. It also beeps and tells you when you've reached one of your goals: activity, calories burned or steps.

So that's the metabolic thing.

Spoke too soon! Muscles hurt - but in a good way (I think!!). Doing spin later to try and loosen up a bit :)

Damn you, lat pulls!!

Can't get that move right...or I'm doing it right, but it's just not comfortable.

Interesting concept. Thank you for going into it in detail.

I'm assuming lat pulldowns, right? Are you pulling to your collarbones, or behind the neck?

Well, color me stupid.
I was referring to a completely different exercise, not a lateral pulldown.

Gained 5 kilos in fat and muscle from my crohns's lowest low (about 3 months ago). 4 months ago, it took me an hour to hang out a basket of washing. I shed manly tears but fucked if I was going to give up.

Now I'm exercising every day after work and taking care of the diet. Even if its a 14 hour day - then I just do 15minute walk and a little bodyweight exercise. 'Off days' are 15 minutes meditating and 15 stretching.

My calendar is covered in little crosses for every day I've exercised. 120 in a row.

Kudos on the 120 days and your progress.
