I miss the fitness threads and the fitness Doms!

Okay. Thinking of purchasing cheap crap food from kids scamming the neighborhood for a fake trip to some distant them park to celebrate drug-freeness. I am such an easy mark. Should I buy the nasty knock off Oreo things for $6.99 or the disgusting fake fruit roll ups from North Korea for $5.50?

Just say NO!

Another piece of exercise equipment that I have that is good for low impact, but cheap, is the Gazelle. The great thing about this is that it folds up and is light enough to move.

Do any of you have some neat tricks for a swiss ball? I know I could google, but where's the fun in that!

Also, are any of you on heiaheia? Have you found it motivational, by any chance? :)

I definitely get the rush but it's unpredictable. I don't count on it but when it happens :D:D:D.

Sports are such a big motivator for me and I really do believe there's something for everyone. Part of the reason I slog my way through gym workouts and hard runs is just so that I'll be better at whatever sport I'm involved in at the moment. And having a commitment to other people (in my case, tennis partners) makes it harder to blow it off. Plus...it's just fun.

So, what's the deal ITW? Too busy right now?

Oh! And I bought a new pair of socks - the kind with the individual toes and little grippy things on the bottom. They were awesome for tennis. Haven't tried them running yet. Will report back on that.

Super erratic schedule. I'd like to do stuff that would require joining a league, and it's too tough to do that right now.

So I've dropped about 25 pounds in all, since April. I'm about 10 or so pounds shy of dropping another dress size, too. Yay! :)

I haven't been exercising much lately, though. Partly because I've been super busy, partly because it's hot as the eighth layer of hell here, and partly because I've been lazy. I'm been having some trouble with feet, and I think, as heavy and flat-footed as I am, it may be the beginnings of plantar fasciitis. :(

Does anyone have any suggestions for exercise that's *not* swimming or biking that's fairly easy on the feet? This apartment complex doesn't have a pool, and I'm not taking my fat ass to a public pool in a swimsuit, LOL. And I don't have a bike. :(

Yay for the weight loss! Is walking out of the question? I would mix that in with what Keroin is suggesting, I think.

***********

Been working out pretty hard - well, intensely for me, but not for hours or anything. Trying to do it almost every day - like 6 days a week. Still no weight loss but my husband says he can see the difference. I am going to check tomorrow morning to be sure. Our scale is effed up too. Maybe I should check inches...

Not to speak for bibunny- but from personal experience plantar fasciitis (sp) makes even normal day-to-day walking terribly painful. I frequently think "I should go for a walk on my lunch break", but knowing the pain that waits at the end of the day, and the next morning, usually stops me in my tracks.

On an individual note- I drug my exercise machine out and cleaned it off, now just need to find floor space for it.

Yikes, that's terrible.

Hven't stopped by this thread for a while. I've been quietly trying to get in better shape.

So far I have lost 20 lbs since Jan 1st. I have about 15 more to go before I reach my initial goal.

For exercise I go to my basement and use our treadmill. I stay on it for 600 calories or 75 mins whichever is less and depending on how much time I have. I have also been doing yoga and a little bit of free weights to strengthen my arms.

Diet wise is my weak point. The good part is it is summer so there are lots of fresh vegetables and my favorite--blueberries. But it also means the kids are home so there is more food in the house, more pizza being ordered and more family coming to visit. But I wake up every morning determined to do my best.

The weight may be coming off slowly but it is staying off this time!!

I rediscovered Coolio, and have been obsessively working out to it. Like, um, 200 times in a row?

What are you working out to?

Love Coolio! What ever happened to him?

I run to some Natalie Furtado, Eminem, etc.

I need a fitness Dom....my running is so sporadic...everything exercise wise lately is sporadic.

I'm pretty sure Coolio lives off the grid, in northern Montana. He has found some steak to go with his beans and rice. And fewer drive-bys.

Slim Shady is a great song to run to. The homophobia makes me wince, but otherwise, sweet.

'Til I Collapse from The Eminem Show album is probably the best Eminem song for when you need motivation. It wasn't released as a single, so it's not as well known.

The weather is so bad in Sydney that's it's a huge effort to drag myself out of a warm dry house to drive to the gym and walk in the freezing cold and wet to get to the door

I enjoy it once I get there but motivation is sadly lacking when there is a nice warm lounge and a heater inside!

Nice kicking-your-ass-to-keep-on music.

Sum 41's Motivation is my personal de-motivation tune for the gym. Oddly, it motivates me...Hmmm...maybe because it makes me grin. :D

I guess I'm weird, even when I was in the best shape of my life and that physical trainer was working me (I even had guns! Small ones, but they were undeniably guns!) I never got that rush. She wrung me out regularly, until it was all I could do to get up and go home (I had to do my cardio before her, or it didn't get done), but I never got the rush.

Last week I went to an event. It was a teacher event and I was there because a teacher at our school was retiring. About 15 of us from the school went. I thought it would be a fun night out, and it was, but what I didn't realize was how fucking satisfying it would be.

I've been through some pretty shitty schools. And I've met some people who weren't really that nice to me. Maybe they screwed me over or were in a position to do what a normal civil person with some decency would do and they didn't. And some of them were there (There were also some people I loved to see, and it was nice to see them again.)

And lately I've been all -yeah, I've lost 13 inches and gone down 5 sizes, and actually wear presentable clothes now, and grew out my hair and dyed it back to its natural colour, and started a skin routine, and wear makeup now, but that's just the way I am now, right? But these people knew me before.

And so sooner or later, in every conversation, each one, unwillingly, said, "You look fantastic!" And I realized that I have completely changed in the past year, and the biggest part is how much better I feel inside.

And I actually could tell how people felt about me by how the conversation went, It was very interesting. And very satisfying, because now I am at an awesome school with an awesome staff and an awesome principal.

And then I got to go back to my table and forget about them and enjoy myself and celebrate the wonderful person who was retiring.

What a night.

Sorry, I realize that had nothing to do with exercise, except perhaps its effects. But I had to post it.

Well done. You are an inspiration.

I don't normally weigh myself, so most of the time I have no idea about my weight. However, I had an operation last year in October and again a couple of weeks ago and they did weigh me to figure out the right dosage of anesthetics. And it turned out I have lost 10kg without really trying during those months.

No wonder I've been feeling like my hips are protruding lately! Seems like every time I lose weight, I lose it from the waist, but my hips remain. This means I end up looking very disproportionate and I hate it. Grumble grumble.

How on earth would one go about making protruding hips a bit smaller?

I adore this song for working out. Really, most of that album is pretty good for it!

Seela, it could just be that your pelvis is anatomically wide, in which case, there's not a lic you can do about it

Yeah, that's a part of the problem, but there's also some extra stuff there that would be nice to see gone. That'd help the stupid disproportion thing a bit.

Question for the serious lifters. Just had my first kidney stone(s). Very overrated. I've been going about a gram and a half of protien per pound trying to add mass.

Dr. thinks protien diet may be culprit for the stones and I'd pretty much sell my soul to not have to re-live the last two weeks. How much should I cut back on the protien?

Thanks.

John

I'm not a lifter and I can't give you an exact answer, but I can tell you that drinking more water will help as well. Your kidneys can handle an astonishing load of protein if your well enough hydrated. Definitely still cut back on the protein, though. If your body is trying to eliminate it, you're not "Adding mass" with the amount you're taking in anyways.

Well I think the science went like this, no sources, sorry.

You only use about 30 - 40 grams or protein a day, all the rest is converted into energy.

So possibly you could try to cut back on protein and add carb supplements. When I did it I would take a bit before the work out cause it seriously makes you much more energetic. But then I'm one of those guys that simply cant get fat, sooo, try it for a week or two maybe.

Put up 300lbs on the leg press today.

And thank god to whoever came up with yoga pants for chicks. Great motivation and distraction while doing cardio. :D

Not strictly fitness related, but one of the factors that's been compounding my weight gain over the past couple years was a seemingly insatiable appetite. Not that I couldn't fill up! But it seemed that no matter what I ate, however "Right" it was, I would feel hungry (legit empty-stomach hungry, not "feel like munching" hungry) within only a few hours. It started when I developed a nasty NSAID ulcer and I had to eat constantly to not be in pain. This wasn't a huge deal at home where I could easily nibble on veggies or other such healthier snacks all day. This is a huge problem in classes, where even if I nibble all day, it's a bit disruptive to those around me and it's a pain to have to pack that many snacks.

So what I've been doing is experimenting with the "right foods" to try to find a breakfast meal that keeps me feeling full.

My previous "winner" was greek yogurt with dried fruit, dry oatmeal, ground flax, honey, and some nuts/seeds. I'm certainly going to keep the ingredients for this around, because I like variety!!

But this new "winner" is just so much better. It's peanut butter, applesauce, dried fruit, ground flax, buckwheat groats, oat groats and a sprinkling of nuts/seeds. The ingredients are over all more filling, and chewing the groats enough that I know I'm not going to just poop them out also slows down my eating a lot (which is another problem I have :p)

SO anyway. While it's not really exercise related, I decided to share this in case any of y'all have similar problems regarding food :)
