I Miss...

<Sigh>...I miss my boy. My letter to him when he left. I told him not to open it until he was on his flight to his training facility...

My dear Son,

By the time you read this you'll be on your way to start a new life for yourself. I've done what I can to bring you to this point and let me now say, once again, how very proud I am of you. You've told me as well that all you've ever wanted was for me to be proud of you. Well, I'm sure you know by now that I always have been very proud of you. All the years that we've spent together as father and son I have not ever once not felt so. You may not have felt that when I was angry for some of the things that you've done, or when you've made bad decisions but my anger and/or reprimands were only out of my unconditional love for you so that you would know and learn from your mistakes.

I have done everything that I could to prepare you for this day. I feel quite confident that you will know what to do from now on. But know this; As your father I have always been, and will continue to be, here for you. I have watched you grow up to be the fine young man that you are. Not only am I proud of you, but you should be proud of yourself. Your disposition lends credence to the fact that you are a likeable and intelligent young man. Sometimes I feel that you do not give yourself enough credit, that you can not sometimes accomplish some things. I for one, as your father, know that you are capable of doing anything you set your mind to. When you're there in Basic and if you ever feel “down” take out this letter and read the following:

“As your father, and for what I have taught you, I know in my mind and my heart that you can do whatever needs to be done. I believe in you Christian with all my heart and soul. If not for yourself, then do it for me and make me prouder than I already am.”

I have complete faith in you Christian. This you already know. And you also know that above all others I have been there for you when others have let you down. While you're away, I will always be thinking of you. I know you will do well. What you are about to do will not be easy, but you can do it. And when Graduation Day comes, rest assured that I will be there to watch you graduate. I am the luckiest man alive to have you as my son. Please never forget that. I will be looking forward to hearing from you soon. You have earned my respect, my admiration, and above all else...all my love.

Love always,

Dad

wow...very touching :)

Dave, that's beautiful, and I know he had tears in his eyes as he read it. :rose:

I miss Dusky, and we've only been apart an hour.

And I miss sleeping a full night with my husband. It'll be so great when our daughter sleeps the night through by herself again.

Thank you. He tells me he still takes it out and reads it from time to time. :)

Great letter to send with him. I've been thru Basic and at times it was not much fun. ;)

I miss hearing from people that "like to talk to" me and/or supposedly "care about" me. people that supposedly "want to chat" with me. this applies to lit and otherwise.....
