If I were God, I'd squash this man like a bug.

By the way, is everyone aware of Arnies big lies in the convention speech. About seeing Soviet tanks as a kid, and wondering if the commies would grab his dad out of the car, never to be seen.

Turns out Arnie didn't even live in a Soviet controlled area of Austria. It was iirc, British. The most that *might have happened is that Arnie's family took a car trip to the Soviet area.

His other bs was linking Austrian socialism with communism; a typical trick of the first American politician he said he instantly admired: Tricky Dick.

Hope everyone's ready for the constitutional amendment and Arnie in 2008.

Not that I believe Kerry's record is so very difficult to fathom. Forget the buzzword flip-flop and find out what Kerry voted for, and when he changed his vote, why he did so.

Righteous indignation will take you only so far.

Exactly. Democratic indignation about 'unfair' ads is a non starter!

As to a case for Kerry. Maybe two items:

1) Appt of Supreme Ct. justices favoring civil and womens' rights.

2) Lately he's talked of a 4 yr deadline for pullout of Iraq. If that were put in stone, and made UNconditional, that would be a possible plus.

His stuff about curbing job export is pure BS. Likewise he has no alternative on immigration, esp. illegal; it's part of the American way of life.

The point I wanted to make Burley really fits hand in glove here. If I want to know what Kerry really stands for, I can go look up his voting record. If I am energetic enough I can go to multiple sources of information and for a pretty accurate picture of what he is about. The vast majority of voters aren't going to that extreme. Picking through his senate voting record requires you to cross reference his vote to the bill in question. You then have to read a senate bill. You have to be really dedicated to knowing, cause those things are filled with legalese, jargon and often refer back to a previous act of congreess and the specific provisions in that act that are modified. Most people aren't preprared to spend a month or so of their free time doing this.

The voter, by and large, depends on the candidate, through speaking engagements and campaign commercials, to tell him where he stands. If he is not doing a very good job of defining himself, he leaves the opening for the opposition to define him. GWB's campaign has gone out of it's way to define him, A strong family man who believes in god and his country, an energetic commander in chief who is taking the fight to the terrorists, Yadda, yaddda, yadda.

The Kerry campaign has not gone out of it's way to define their man and when the GOP opened its Rovian attack dog ads, they began to define Kerry for the electorate, in the most unflattering light. Those ads have been so successful, partially because attack adds just work, partially because they contain facts, even if the facts they rely on are only the facts they wish to use, but in no small part because they weren't going against the already established image of the candidate. There was none, is none, and so it's almost sinfully easy to paint him however the GOP wishes.

Wishing the electorate was as well informed and dedicated to obtaining an accurate view as some people here is fine. But wishing dosen't change the fact that most voters rely on sound bites and campaign ads for their information.

You take exception to flip-flop. I know several democrats here who are voting for Kerry because they are staunch democrats, but I have heard even the staunchest worrying about his indecisiveness. He is being defined by the opposition, to the point where even supporters are accepting the GOP definitions and plan to vote for him, IN SPITE of these weaknesses.

But if even staunch democrats who would vote for the democratic candidate if they were running bozo the clown on the democratic ticket are buying the GOP definitions, it dosen't bode well for the dwindeling undecided minority who may very well make up the swing votes in hotly contested states.

I guess what I am stumbling here to say, is that it's all fine and good to show what an ignoramous GWB is, but if you just show that, and don't show you have an alternative to his bumbling, that is viable, you aren't doing much to sway the undecided.

IMHO the Kerry campaign is missing the boat by consistantly showing what a buffoon GWB is and not taking the time to explain to the voter what Kerry is and what he will do differently.

I started to let this lie, but I don't quite appreciate the smart ass remark to a serious post I made.

Yes, it lives!

From http://www.wonkette.com/ -

As you may have heard, voting for John Kerry will cause us to be attacked by terrorists. Which is weird, because we keep hearing that Kerry is pro-terrorist. Vice President Cheney apparently knows better: "If we make the wrong choice," he said yesterday, "then the danger is that we'll get hit again." Fearing that he may have been too subtle, Cheney also warned that should Bush fail to be re-elected, the waters will rise, the seas will boil, blood shall rain down upon the land, and terrorists will visit upon the house of each individual Kerry voter and there shall be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth. Cheney then brought his cloak across his face, laughed maniacally and disappeared in a puff of smoke, leaving his support staff to cast goat entrails to determine the fate of the world should the GOP lose the Senate.

:D

(P.S. I saw this quote in Lasher's sig line.)
