I'm going to a fetish ball

KC the emphasis is on 'fetish' not 'ball'...e.g. a pretty summer dress wouldn't do. Anything leather or PVC would definitely work. Black seemed to be the most popular colour.

I'm not overly fetish (an understatement) so I wore a gorgeous black corset with a black skirt. I certainly wasn't the belle of the ball, but it worked.

I always make it a point to wear red when it's expected of me to wear black. :p Well, unless it's a funeral. It's the contrary person in me. :D But then, when I was going to a tiny school in BFE you couldn't get me out of all black. Annoyed the hicks to no end.

A couple of years ago I had to plan for a Fetish Ball outfit. As I hate to buy pre-made stuff that I will not be able to re-use in different context and was not even sure if I would be really going to the ball or not (at the end I did not go as I was sick), I just went looking into my wardrobe for items that could be converted.

I'm a shoe-person, so more often than not, I start an outfit from shoes. And since I decided I was going to wear my biker chick high heels boots, I ended up making a sexy biker chick outfit:

Leather biker jacket, black bra/crossed tape on nipples underneath (in case I took the bra off), black panties and black spandex garther belt, stockings and a leather collar.

But if I get the chance to go next time, I think I want to make an all-white outfit to counteract the sea of black. For instance the "evil" angel: white stockings, white bra and panties, wings and a riding crop. I'd love to do that if I go as my Domme persona though.

As the submissive, I think I'd like to go for either the school girl look, or the harem slave with bells and chains, or the standard sexy toy look with a corset and so forth.

I disagree. I go to fetish-y events pretty often, and I wear whatever the hell I want, and it's always fine. I don't like fetish clothing, and I feel no need whatsoever to try and fit into that mold. Black might be the popular color, but I'm not so into black, so fuck it, I'll go in wearing a bright yellow shift-dress with a great big yellow bow in my hair.

If you make an effort to look nice, to be creative, to be sexy, it doesn't matter what you are wearing at all, whether a rubber dress, or a cotton one. Its really not so rigid as all that.

Different experiences Syd. I'm glad that's the case for you but in that outfit you would have been turned away at the door at the last fetish party that I went to.

KC if in doubt, call the organizers and make sure what you're planning to wear will fit the dress code. Actually, if the event is listed online, they may well have posted a dress code, which will help you.

Yeah, I guess different areas will have different standards. In NYC, pretty much as long as you put some effort and creativity in, you can wear whatever you want. The only thing that's expressly banned is jeans and khakis.

And runners.

:D

Here, basic black is the minimum. There was an uproar last year when a new event insisted people make an effort to fet up. It can be expensive to buy quality fetish outfits, but then, a little creativity can get you a long way as well, and can be well worth the effort.

I just don't understand why black is the only fetish color, and never have. I mean, I love black, but I love red, blood red, more and if I could afford a fetish outfit I would SO buy it in red.

I know! I like *some* black, but I love to throw in a splash of colour. Last party I went to I wore a siren red top with a black skirt and red stockings, and felt awesome.

Is it the mystery, night walking, shadow lurking vibe that black has or what?

I guess. Or maybe because black represents sin? I'm not sure, but I adore red, it's my absolute favorite color. Over half of my clothing is red, and I think, considering it represents blood and desire, that it should be a fetish color as much as black is.

Agreed, absolutely. I hadn't thought of that, but hells yes.

In my experience, black and red are the fetish colors.

Also, similar to your uproar when they tried to raise the minimum from just all black to something a little more fetishy, in NYC, they've begun allowing suits. It's always nice to see a group of well tailored men swinging floggers around.

Also, also, I don't know how strict they are where you are, but here I've never seen them not let in a woman, no matter how she is dressed. The only people I've ever seen them tell off for not wearing the right thing is men. Women always seem to have a bit more flexibility with the dress code because, you know, tits.

This was the dress code on the web site for the Skin Two North Fetish Ball held recently:

"Is there a dress code?
Yes, we have a strict dress code - "Alice in Fetish Land" theme (optional): Kinky Fancy Dress, Rubber, Leather, Kinky Drag, TV/CD, PVC, Uniforms, Burlesque, Goth. No full nudity please...
Jeans, suits, and all-black steeet clothes that are otherwise mainstream and non-uniform combat trousers are NOT acceptable.
No Effort No Entry! "

I agree with some of the other posts here that this does not have to mean pvc/rubber, it can be done in lots of different ways. I think the important point is about being creative and making the effort to look different. I think if you do that, you'd get in.
