being a grandma is soo different from being a parent.
i.e.
i put my grandson (15 months old) on a concrete donkey & cart at my mother's house.. and we snapped his picture..
my son said.. you never let US get on that when we were little.. i said.. "yes, i know.. grandma's let their grandkids do what they wouldn't let their kids do.. it's our right"
he just rolled his eyes. :D
enjoy those grandbabies as much as you can LB...
 
Thanks Jasmine... I love to hear from other grannys who don't fit the image of an elderly lady in a rocking chair.

I'm looking forward to spending lots of time with Daniel, I hope to be his granny and his friend. Someone he can turn to when he thinks that mum and dad have been a bit harsh perhaps.

I've still got this silly grin on my face.... it just won't go away.. :D

Congratulations Ladybird! I can tell how excited you are. My oldest daughter is 22 and seems quite serious about one guy in particular so it may not be too long before I am a grandparent too. We obviously had our children at a very early age. :D (at least if mental age counts!!!)

Yeah... I had my children very young... too young really.

My daughter is 27 next week, and my son will be 30 in October.. and as for me... I'm a cool 48!

And guess what.... life really is just now begining!

Many heartfelt congratulations honey...I know the feeling. I found out, on my birthday (June 8) after many years of non contact with my daughter in Germany (long story)...that I was in fact a Granddad...and had been since Oct 12, 2000.

I know the elation you feel...many fun times ahead for you...congratulations once more to you.:rose: :rose: :rose:

Stargirl, you parents sound like the kind of grandies that I want to be. I hope that Daniel can come to me with anything at all, and that he never see's me as the kind of grandparent that sits in a rocking chair knitting..

1Sexylady Daniel has settled really well. He's very alert and is spending a lot of time awake already. He's feeding well.. so there are no problems there. He's also shown that he likes a cuddle.. he's a real snuggler who complains when he's put down into the bassinette.

Duckie... thanks honey, you know how much I've been looking forward to this.. and now my grandson is here.. and he's just beautiful.

Ukin... thank you and congratulations to you too. What a lovely surprise that must have been for you. I know you're many miles away, but I hope you get to see your daughter and grandchild soon.

Thanks for the tip about the bar thread psyche.. I'll go there now and have a read. Aramera has probably been drinking too much Bundy again!

I've just returned from the hospital actually, where young Daniel had just been fed, and was sound asleep. Looking all the world like and angel... He's beautiful.. I love him so much.

I love little Daniel as much as a Granny can.. but I don't feel like one.. or at least what I conder a Granny to be.

I guess he and I can grow up together... that could be fun!

He's a beautiful little boy, he's already showing his personality.

Shane is looking better, Melissa is still very tired. She missed a whole nights sleep while in labour and hasn't had a chance to catch up yet.

My family is growing.. its a lovely feeling. Next month my sons baby will be born.

Yep.. tis a big year, a good one too. :)
 
As a matter of fact Bug Eyed Monster, my mother was only 37 when my son was born.. so she was a very young grandmother.

I was 18 when Christopher was born, and 21 when I had Melissa.. young by todays standards, but not uncommon then.

As for spoiling my grandchildren and then sending them back.. I have a big bottle of red cordial ready. As soon as Daniel is old enough to drink it, I'll fill him with it.. give him a real sugar high.. and then send him home!

Melissa was a beautiful baby and daughter, but is also the most stubborn person I have ever met. I have lots of paybacks up my sleeve for her... :D

As for my sons bub (shhhh.. it's a secret, but it's a girl) it will be funny hearing her accent. She'll be an Australian born and bred in Guernsey.

They are planning on coming back to Australia in about 5 years. I hope so, I want this little girl to know that she has a granny that loves her very very much.
