I'm thinking of leading an I/T writing course in January

To me, one of the easiest ways of learning to write better is to learn from the mistakes of others writing similar stories to yours. The idea of the course is that I'll pick a I/T story to discuss and on a Friday I'll email a link to it to everyone in the course. The story will probably be brother-sister or mother-son. The first story will be one of my own. Next, I'll do stories that authors have volunteered. If I need more, I'll pull a story from ASSTR. Everyone will read the story over the weekend and take notes on how the story could have been better. Monday, I'll send out my feedback. What I'll do is add to the story my thoughts in italics as I read the story. It's natural for me to be harsh when I give feedback, so I'll be flaming away. Once I send that out, everyone will share their thoughts and/or reactions to my thoughts.

I'll do at least four weeks. Maybe longer if people are enjoying it.

PM me an email address if you want to join.

This is something along the lines of the Book Club we had been planning some time ago. It didn't end up happening but I definitely support the idea. Talking about actual writing rather than discussing ratings and trolls. Sounds fun. The only part I didn't quite get is whether the course/review will be publicly posted here or in the story feedback forum? Or do you intend to send your thoughts by email only? It would feel natural to try to steer a discussion so posting it publicly makes much more sense to me.

We really need that Literotica Convention that @FreyaGersemi had suggested so that useful workshops like this one could be held in person 😁
If I wasn't so terrified of social events, I'm sure that I would love a real Literotica Convention!!!!

Something I've learned over the years is to not criticize authors' works in public unless they request it, and, even then, I try to be nice as I can while still being helpful. So, I wouldn't feel comfortable publicly posting my thoughts.

Exactly what qualifies you to teach a course? Did someone anoint you an expert because it's all you can write? You're that much better that people should listen to you?

Seriously, the hubris is mind blowing.

Eight Letters has been quite helpful, helping me get started, and my first story did fairly well. He's given me great pointers for my next one as well.

The same thing which qualifies you to give advice on threads in this forum: free will and writing experience.

You don't have to take part. I'm not going to take part either.

But you also don't have to be rude about it.

When you give advice on this forum yourself, is it because you think you're "that much better that people should listen to you?"

I hope not. It's just because you have some knowledge about a certain topic, and other people might benefit from that knowledge. That's the very fundamental basis of a writing forum's existence.

I have an extremely difficult time writing happy incest. My past, the fact that incest destroyed me, and I ran away from home at 12 years old because of it, tells me there is no happy incest. I might want to see the thread that the class will have. And try to pick up tips for future stories. I have a dark turning in much of my writing, which doesn't seem to work with IT here.

How will you use ASSTR? It’s been defunct for a while now.
Nothing ever disappears from the Internet. It's just harder to find. What I'm having a hard time finding on ASSTR is an incest story where all the characters are 18 years and older.

I understand your feelings on this. I have a very difficult time writing real (as opposed to "step" ) incest or anything to do with homosexuality. I've tried both a few times but it left such a bad taste I didn't want to finish. I'm not slamming anyone who can write those things, but because of where I came from it's something I have a hard time abiding.

However, I'm on the other side of things in my stories. I end up making them more on the "happy ever after" side of the scale. Not totally by any means. My characters most aways face the warts, wounds and dark parts of themselves, but many point in the direction of happy.

About, oh 17 years ago, we had a few AH Litogethers. Some were bigger than others. Personally, I quite enjoyed them. The first such gathering I ever heard of or attended was a book signing at an adult book store that was pretty centrally located. It happened just as I was getting divorced and the first time I ever met my future "real space"" partner was at that gathering. Imp and I were already co-writing things and we ended up (after both of our divorces had finalized) living together for about five years. We spent a bit of time flying cross country to see each other prior to my moving and she has remained a very valued and trusted friend despite us no longer being romantically involved. I have emotional attachments to several other Litsters that I met during that window of time, though some of them I have unfortunately lost touch with over the years.

edited to add: When I say "centrally located" in this post, I mean in the central United States... though we had Litsters attend from as far away as England. I was still living in San Diego at the time.

I'm curious about your project, send me an email.

Use the kindofhere email, if you still got it.
