Immortal Love

Deacon Frost

"That is because you allowed him to rule you, where I am going to take you, you will not be ruled. Hell in time you will do the owning, until you have no need for me I will stick with you and cause a bit more trouble. Seems that I'm pretty good with that."

What do you mean that I would be the one owning?

She glanced over to him biting her lip. Sometimes things he said and seemed to do scared her.

You said you can feel nothing... why would you wish anyone around you?

Deacon Frost

"That there will not be a man that controls you, more like you controlling the man."

He looked at her as the heat started to grow around them,

"It was your choice to stay was it not? You are free to go where you want to, bbut I am sure that with me you will stand a better chance."

Feeling the warmth begin to take over their limited space she curled up more feeling better but still confused at his words.

How would I control them? I... I am not... I hold no magics like Mirri or you?

She wanted to curl against him still scared at the predicament they found themselves in but was not sure what to do.

Deacon Frost

"I hold no magic, what I have is music and knowledge. You have the dance and know how to mesmerize men. Mirri...that little cow actually used black magic, but in the end she will get hers."

He could not hide the disappointment in his voice, it was sad to lose a soul to the dark arts.

"If we survive today, we will be able to get a long way. Just keep the faith."

What of the warlord... or any of the nomads... if any of them find us... We no longer have Salim's protection.

She bit her lips and curled tight growing fearful again. His words did comfort her a little but there were so many things about these lands that she knew well to fear.

Deacon Frost

He chuckled,

"The nomads? Who do you think taught me the music of the people and the tribes? The Wanderer goes as he please and who follows him is under his mantle."

He did not say more, just looked at her. He realized that the heat was starting to make him drowsy and in the desert that was a bad sign. Was this really his end? In the hollow of a rock in a wild desert?

"You fear too much."

She smiled to him but her eyes too were heavy and closing as she laid there.

So tired...

She struggled to stay awake her fears and the heat taxing her frail form though.

Deacon Frost

He watched her and then his world turned black.

The cool air of the evening roused him, he opened his eyes and found that he was wedged inbetween the rocks, with a lot of wriggling he freed himself. Looking at Samira he thought her to be dead, the lack of movement in her chest and the coldness of the skin he touched confirmed it.

Then she drew in a gasping breath and he almost got a heartattack.

She felt cold... had he left her here... something deep in her mind screamed

BREATHE

Quickly she was moving and trying to sit up forgetting the cave she had been in. She looked around once her eyes opened fully and looked for Deacon. When her eyes saw his he looked terrified of her and she became scared.

What?

Her voice a faint whimper as she spoke.

Deacon Frost

"You were dead...you had no pulse, your skin was cold and you did not breathe..."

He stared at her for a while and then realized that the space he woke up in was where only a limp...or dead body could fit in. He recalled the words of the spell: "O amor vai te liberar, aínda hai amor vai atopar, nin paz na morte. Sen amor vai viaxar da Terra ata o final do día." It was Gaelic, old magic. How did she even get to learn the language in the first place, he slowly puzzled out the words and then he looked at Samira.

"It's the curse that Mirri placed on us using blood. Love will set you free, yet no love you will find, nor peace in death. Without love you will travel the earth until the end of days."

The space around them suddenly seemed cramped and he climbed out, on the horizon the moon was rising and he started to collect their things.

"We need to get going."

His words scared her but the cold she was beginning to feel made her agree they needed to move.

Yes... we should go...

What had Mirri done to her to him to them... why was this happening she wanted the life she knew no matter how brutal it could be she was terrified of what would happen to her now.

The trek across the desert was a tough one, he learned how to find better shelter and extra food. They reached the ocean five days later, two of which they had spent dead. It took another three days for them to reach a small fishing village, as he trudged into town, he looked about him. This clearly was a hard-working, low-class people, he knew their kind and when they came face-to-face with a welcoming party he greeted them in the old customary ways. It placed them at ease, he asked for water and food and to his suprise Samira and himself were taken into a house, as they were given water to refresh themselves, food and water were prepared, but also a meal prepared.

"Seems like your beauty made them decide to treat us more hospitable,"

He didn't say anything further to her as he finished up.

Samira clung a little closer to him she recognized a couple of faces from caravans but was glad when another family hurried them in.

Perhaps... or they think other things.

He gave her a sidelong glance, then turned his attentions back to the people who fed them, with some of the coin he had on him he bartered for more sensible clothing for Samira. He found that the villagers liked to barter and the price he paid was reasonable, when the sun started to set in the west again they moved on. The good news was that the harbor was only two days' trek removed from the village, the bad news was that they had no money, but at least Deacon still had his harp and flute and that was all he needed to make the rest of the money.

Once changed into the other clothes she felt a little less worried about being stared at and a little less worried about something happening to her. Following his lead she knew she had little other choice with what MIrri did to her and to him.

It took two and a half days to find the harbor city, they did not speak much as they had to preserve what moisture they could. The evenings was wet and cold and the days dry and scorching. Along the coast little protection against the desert sun could be found, when they came to the city Deacon stopped and looked around, he casually reached out and pulled the shawl over Samira's head.

"Do not speak unless spoken to, stay one step behind me to the left and never let a man see more than your ankle."

He strode further, pulling the hood of his cloak up over his head, marking him as a traveler with either a wife or a slave of the local people. Few studied them, even less spoke to them. He came to an Inn and entered, as he threw back the hood one of the patrons noticed him,

"Bless me heart, it's Deacon!"

A general hubub started and Deacon bore it with grace, always keeping an eye on Samira to make sure that she did as he had asked her to do.

"So Deacon lad, what brings ye here?"

"I need coin Collin, I wish to buy passage."

He stated how much he had and a few heads shook, but one captain stood up.

"I'll give you passage as I am heading for the New Land, if you are as good at making music as the lads said you are, you can earn your keep as well as the lady's by making music."

Deacon raised an eyebrow,

"Well friend if that is the only offer I will have to take it and spare the music only for your ship."

General groans were raised and Deacon chuckled,

"Alright I'll play, but first I would need a drink and something to eat and of course for my...companion."

Catcalls came from all directions, but he just smiled.

Samira wanted to run... to get away from here... she curled tighter into the fabric hiding her from everyone. Where had he brought them... She was sure something would happen here or on this ship he was trying to get them onto.

He pulled out the harp and made certain that his sword remained hidden, just in case the captain did decide to not keep to his word. Bread, cheese, roasted chicken and fresh milk was brought to a table and wooden bowls placed out for them. He nodded for Samira to get food for herself after he had served himself, in a hushed whispered he told her,

"When you eat, face away from the room, some idiot might get it into his head to claim you as his and I'll have to fight for you."

He ate and after his meal and two cups of milk he strummed the harp,

"Well it's not my guitar, but its something hey?"

"Aye"

The answer came from a few points and from that note he picked a sailor song and started to sing, basically to distract them from Samirra.

Samira had no problem finding a place away from all of them to hide and eat. This ship terrified her as well as its crew. She barely ate making it a very slow process trying to stay away from them all.

His songs finally came to an end and he received some applause, the captain nodded, clearly he seemed impressed with his own offer. An hour passed as Deacon caught up with current affairs and then the captain rose,

"We will have to leave now to catch the tide."

Deacon nodded and rose as well along with Samira,

"Captain, I do hope my companion's virtue will be respected by your crew."

The captain laughed loudly,

"My crew I can control, you will have to look after her yourself when it comes to the passengers."

Deacon grinned and nodded, that was the answer he wanted to hear,

"Come along."

He motioned for Samira to follow as they walked out of the Inn.

It did little to calm her nerves but she moved over toward him still biting her lip well hidden from all. She detested hiding and cowering like this she hated that her life was so changed and different.

Fortunately Deacon was a man who could make any music for many people, the trip to the New World went by relatively easy. The only thing that did come up was that some of the women wanted to seduce him, but now his affliction seemed even worse as no amount of touch could bring him more than just a faint smile. Deacon seemed immune to all women, he treated Samira with the respect he felt she deserve as a woman. They came to the New World in the winter time and went ashore wrapped in warm clothing given by the captain. Deacon looked around with a strange light in his eyes.

"First we must find a place where you can dance,"

he suddenly laughed,

"As an exotic beauty you will make more money here than Salim could ever dream of. Come Samira let's see what there is to see."

Samira wondered if Mirri's curse had merely swap out those that would make profit from her from Salim to Deacon.

Yes... a place to dance...

She was shocked at how cold it was in this place the buildings and people all so strange looking to her as she remained close to him out of merely the fact that she had no one nor anywhere else anymore.

Deacon Frost

He spotted a place that he was looking for,

"First got to do something, come along."

He entered the station house and when they left, he handed her a small book.

"You must keep hold of that, never let it go. All the money you will ever earn will go into that and it will be yours alone."

He gave her a friendly smile, the first ever since that day in the gathering house,

"You will see that life is much better without a Salim to misuse you."

He had also inquired as to where there might be room for a musician and a dancer. He had thought of starting their own business, but one needed capital and he was going to make sure that they got it.
