A fun story. Me and mrs Cogan were on vacation in Italy several years ago. It was truly hot weather. The temperature was about 95°F (35°C). There was a river coming down the mountain and we stopped and admired the view. The water was so clear that you could see the bottom and the fish clearly. Mrs Cogan decided to dip her toes in the river, stepped out of her sandals and into the water. It was about 40°F (4°C) in the water and the scream is probably still rolling around the Dolomites today. If I had to guess freezing.
(but that still won't keep me from dipping my toes in)
Will have to be with!!With or without the caffein demon?![]()
Ouch! It’s ultimately melted snow, isn’t it - she should’ve tried her fingertip first!A fun story. Me and mrs Cogan were on vacation in Italy several years ago. It was truly hot weather. Either that or it's a spring from the mountain. Both are very cold even further down the stream.Ouch! It’s ultimately melted snow, isn’t it - she should’ve tried her fingertip first!
All I will say without revealing exactly where I am, it's sunny and in the 60s.A fun story. Me and mrs Cogan were on vacation in Italy several years ago. It was truly hot weather. That sounds like a nice temperature in December. All I will say without revealing exactly where I am, it's sunny and in the 60s.
and while I haven't done a polar plunge. Mr. Radiant did one year do his own in December. View attachment 2442224
Damn, that’s just… terrible
I’ve swum in the St Lawrence Seaway with ice on the shores, no wetsuit or the like. Not one of my brighter ideas, but I stayed in for more’n half an hour. With a wetsuit I’ve done hours in the summer, but winter swimming is just idiotic. All I will say without revealing exactly where I am, it's sunny and in the 60s.

I am thinking there is a limit to what the body can endure and your are dangerously close to hypothermia.I’ve swum in the St Lawrence Seaway with ice on the shores, no wetsuit or the like. Are they still getting rid of hurricane debris where you are! We still have some here in FL and 60 can be about right today. 70's for the weekend and next week! All I will say without revealing exactly where I am, it's sunny and in the 60s.

I did say it wasn't the smartest thing I did, after all!I am thinking there is a limit to what the body can endure and your are dangerously close to hypothermia.
I am unfortunately aware of how it feels. You obviously survived! I do like my water temp just on the cool side somewhere around 80F. It is enough to cool you down a bit but not too warm. 90F sucks because you don't feel refreshed at all!I did say it wasn't the smartest thing I did, after all!At least I wasn't completely idiotic - there were people watching, towels & a bonfire to hand. Hurt like hell getting in, too, like a whole-body toothache.
Glad you survived your 'fun' too.I am unfortunately aware of how it feels. You obviously survived! I do like my water temp just on the cool side somewhere around 80F. It is enough to cool you down a bit but not too warm. 90F sucks because you don't feel refreshed at all!
No hurricane debris that I am aware of.Are they still getting rid of hurricane debris where you are! We still have some here in FL and 60 can be about right today. 70's for the weekend and next week!
It looked like it could be the Florida gulf coast. Some of my favorite places are still a bit of a mess. The beach we walk on just opened up a week ago.No hurricane debris that I am aware of.
ahh gotcha, yeah i still have some friends that are dealing with clean up.It looked like it could be the Florida gulf coast. Some of my favorite places are still a bit of a mess. The beach we walk on just opened up a week ago.
With Climate Change you have to choose your abode carefully. We just had two hurricanes blow thru here in the Tampa area and they are still cleaning up. When I lived in a nice area in PA we were stuck in the house for days because it took that long for them to clear the road. I am watching the fires in CA and else where.Seems to me, Florida gets hosed on the regular, with hurricanes, sinkholes, and critters. Many places on the world can get worse - looking at you, Australia!- but the amount of effort needed to keep living there is high.
Upstate NY, where I've lived my life, requires lots of effort as well, plowing snow, repairing roads, occasional tornadoes, etc - but I wonder if anyone's ever looked at the effort needed to live in various places and tried to do an apples-to-apples comparison. Complicated to do it right, lots of noise in the numbers from population migration, tech change, climate change, etc.
