well i live here for one. Cost of living is a lot cheaper than illinois or kentucky. taxes are reasonable also. The state is in good financial shape unlike the states around it.

It has it bad parts also. Nightlife isnt bad but nothing like Chicago for example. Real estate is pretty reasonable and the taxes are low and capped per year.

I don't know what you do for a living but jobs don't seem to be that hard to find. They don't pay a lot due to the low cost of living here but it all evens out.

I'm in the Evansville area. Seems we are a good bit off to ourselves and nearly as much as a connection to western Kentucky, even Louisville, and southern Illinois, maybe as far as Mt Vernon, IL.

What is/are up-and-coming neighborhoods, where the housing costs are lower, but poised to gentrify in the near future? I am an experienced remodeler who wouldn't mind a fixer-upper.

Specifically, what areas would you avoid?

If you have the DYI channel there is actually a house flipping show based out of Indy. Show is called Good Bones. It does discuss some neighborhoods.

I am in beech grove so that works for me. Fountain square seems to be better from when i got here. some areas of indy you need to avoid completely. Just have to read crime stats and what not.

I live in the Dakotas. 'Nuff said.

I've always been impressed by how nice it is in Indy when I've been there in the winter.
When I was back for the Super Bowl fun in 2011, it was 70 degrees!
