Internet Harassment

I know you don't that's why I was making sure it wasn't misunderstood that you did, Snood dear I know you thought you were hitting out at the right people but honestly the moderators have been trying to end this but they have no authority to do so anymore than you or I do. It is NOT their fault

I suppose so. A moderator has the ability to do a great many things, but not necessarily the authority to do them.

Still, please do report this egregious situation to the sysop and then rattle her chain.

I ran a BBS or two back in the day, and made more'n one call to the police over postings. It's time, fellas.

Actually, it's the first I've ever mentioned it. Further, the only reason I did mention it is that it's the only "official" action I've ever seen taken around here and I was in need of a contrast.

My primary points stand.

Snood, I love you guy. You know that. That's why I'm going to ask you please to get off Eve's and Ange's back on this one. There IS a place for rightous anger, but it ain't at them, dude.

I'm prolly as pissed as you are, so I'll aim both of ours:

Normal Jean, knock your shit off or your ass is going to end up in jail. You are doing wrong sweetie, now stop it. The Feds don't fuck around with this stuff. Please think long and hard before you post anything else.

Does the owner have those removed? No. Freedom of speech.

Again, if this person's violating the law of the land then inaction is, er, actionable.

Freedom of speech does not entitle one to scream "Fire!" in a crowded movie house.

Although I have screamed "Movie!" in a crowded fire house. You have to take those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities...

Help us help ourselves, please?

I suppose, but I'm still sizzlin' over a year of being told to ignore abuse with never a mention of relevant laws.

If I see someone being abused, I take action. Either direct action, or action through 911 et cetera. At the very least I'll take 'em aside and try to get 'em to seek help. Were I sufficiently up on the law to know that there were statutes relevant to her problem, you can bet I'd have helped Bij swear out a complaint.

We should've been told, and all of NJs logins should be expunged.

Snood: I've got more where this one came from (out of my ass)!
Don't make me write anymore of these or you will be SO sorry!

Rose are red
and their leaves are green
the mods aren't at fault here
so stop being mean

P.S. Bite me - it's a freaking poem at least!

I just assumed I didn't have to mention that there are exceptions to freedom of speech.
I said in another post that if nothing can be done on the literotica level (and I'm talking about the owners) then bijou needs to take it further. Not all the harassment is on literotica anyway. Some of it is via email, right? I don't know if she has yahoo or what, but she needs to get in touch with that provider too, I suppose. Then go beyond that, if needed. I guess she could even seek legal advice or call her local police station.

"Help us help ourselves, please?" Um, not sure what you're asking. I can PM laurel but probably not much use in that. I can do some online research. I won't support this person while she's harassing a forum member. Not sure what else I can do to help you help yourself.

Feel free to PM me if I can do anything. Like I said, I can PM/email/do online research, but that's about all I can do, as far as I know. :rose:

Other than that, I do hope you'll all keep a clear head. Yes, this is bad for bijou and anyone else affected by it. I know we all have a right to enjoy the internet and to hang out where we want and be able to do it without harassment. Going online is like going to school, going to a bar, going to a friend's house. We all have a right to be here and not be stalked, threatened, etc. One difference is that we can turn off our computers or avoid certain sites when things become overwhelming. My autistic daughter was verbally abused by a staff member at school today. She still has to go to school. I called the principal. If I'm harassed at a bar, I'll leave, even if I don't want to. None of it's fair. I don't think bijou should have to avoid this site. But if she feels threatened and feels like this person could show up at her house, then she needs to leave -- at least temporarily -- and call someone with authority, like the police department. I hope it never goes that far. I sincerely do. But safety and sanity first.

...known alts are as follows but not limited to: normal jean, maria2394, ghost_girl, emma_tate, and Tangerine Sex Dream
My suggestion? Everybody just put all these usernames on ignore and update the ignore list when she launches another one. Eventually her behavior will extinguish. Might take a while, though.

Trust me. I was trained in behavioral psychology.

Though that was with rats.

Anyway, I'm off to set these all to Ignore. That's always kind of fun, actually, ignoring someone. Kinda like shunning them. Makes me feel all Puritan or something.

A few years ago, I and another friend were harassed by a women writer on lit, she was pretty bad. Reacting to her or reading her stuff and getting upset just continued it so I put her on ignore.

Don't just ignore them, but put them on ignore so you don't see there posts or get any pms from them. Also anyone who knows this person and is not ignoring them, try not to quote their posts so the people being harassed won't have to see them.

In case any one doesn't know how to do this, open the persons profile, and click the put on ignore button, make sure they are check marked and then submit. It may take going through a couple alts but I have found people stop when they aren't getting any attention.

I was stalked before though not on this site, he used to make up womens names and then ask men to cyber saying he was me ...... now that is sick in anybody's book. I didn't know then that the different names could be tracked to the one person I wish I had it would have saved me a lot of heartache and embarrassment

That's great advice on how to handle it on the forum, and I'm not sure why it hasn't been done. As far as emails, just get a new one and don't accept anon emails from Literotica. Stop accepting PMs, too. Give the new email addy to trusted friends. This would pretty much wipe the problem out, unless the person knows her personal info and threatens to come after her. In that case, call the police.

The internet can be brutal. I've been a victim of plagiarism more than a half dozen times. It's difficult to do a lot about it and it's frustrating. Rudeness and stupidity in your public comments section, hateful emails/PMs, vicious posts directed at you, it all sucks and most of us have been there. I've been defeated a few times in the past. I've hidden all my poems because of plagiarism. I've avoided the forum because of rudeness/harassment. I've changed email addresses. Online is like offline. They both have assholes. But the online ones have less difficulty finding victims and continuing with the harassment.

From my understanding, this thread was started in order to educate the members of this forum wrt the actions we, as individuals, need to take should we discover ourselves in the less than enviable position of being a victim.

I didn't elucidate when I first noticed this situation developing as to the legal recourses available to anyone who found themselves a victim primarily because I was under the impression that the target was pretty savvy about how to get the info and apply it (Need I say how sorry I am for making assumptions? I really am, you know.)

I did however advise that one of the steps that needs to be taken would be to forward the offending pm to Laurel or Manu in order that they could take the steps to ban the identity and their ISP number from participating on the forums. I regret that I had no occassion to record the posts on the forum apart from any portion I quoted in reply to a direct comment to me.

This is a very distressing situation for which my soul feels hurt for everyone concerned with and embroiled in this mess. You are all important to me and I am so sorry that there is only one course of action open. Please be safe in all you choose to do. I do not envy any of you this very ill relationship.

Paix.

MY alts here have NEVER been a secret. Ihave listen them several times. my life has been an open book here, yet I know very little about anyone of you. Your profiling skills have much to be desired.

Repeatedly you have all said to handle personal things via PM. Which I have done in response to personal attacks on me. I have no interest in stalking anyone. Period. And I have been assigned other names which are NOT mine. Just because someone comes along that doesnt like you, BJ, doesnt mean that its me, you arent the be all to end all, get over yourself. You are all ;l well, mostly ,la bunch of two faced hypocrites and yes, I am to good for you sorry excuses for humans.

Fine, I'm gone, fuck you. The ones of you who know me know i am not as BJ would have you portray, however i will not sit back and be crapped on and not defend myself. Go ahead, show your true colors, set your minions out to defame me but you cant hurt me, that happened a long time ago.

I've just shown my husband the PM I got and he is deciding what to do about it

Be very careful, you have no real idea who you are dealing with. One list I am on some members threatened a nasty pm writer which caused him to freak and took their ISPs down. Police in several countries were involved but no charges were to stick. We knew who this guy is/was and its didn't matter because he was good enough to cover his tracks. At the time, he was sliding deeper into mental illness.

Remember that although you may think you know someone, you really don't and even if you do, you don't know who knows them and might act on their behalf if they feel threatened. Its better to not escalate anything.

While this is generally good advice, I seriously doubt that NJ can launch a DOS attack on UYS' ISP, or indeed do much of anything other than fulminate and shoot off nastigrams.

Further, I suspect that UYS' male counterpart is contemplating calling the cops, rather than hopping on a 'plane and kicking some ass in meat-space.

By the way, when I tried to say meat-space without a hyphen, the board changed it to me*******. Why would this be, O defenders of freedom of speech? Meat-space is just cyberspeak for the real world, in contrast to cyberspace. Hardly puppy porn or other banned stuff, if I'm not mistaken. What the...?

It's probably the domain name for a banned URL. Every once in a while you try to type in something and it gets munged like that. Kind of frustrating until you figure out what's going on.

I'm not always sure why some of these domains are banned, but I'm sure the site owners have some reason.

Snood, do you ever get a haircut? Does Supercuts charge you double?

Just curious.

Thank the Gods that sex.com and thighs.org have yet to be banned. That'd suck, and in no pleasant way.

On another note, I went to the local barber and he fainted dead away. Every once in a while I'll bathe in Nair®, but that's not a frequent occurrence as a gallon of the stuff costs me a week's pay

OK. You made me look at thighs.org, you dickhead.

Great URL, lousy content.

You didn't answer my question about haircuts, though.
