Is Anyone Else Worried?

60 dead in three years?

I'm sure more people have died from knives, guns, cars, cancer etc in the last three years.

FYI, I just read a book on the 1918 pandemic and how flu works in general, which is where all this stuff is coming from. It's called The Great Influenza, written by John Barry.

We have an epidemic in the UK now.

A Panorama programme on the BBC this evening was devoted to it.

Our hospitals are failing to cope and infection is spreading virtually uncontrolled through people typically under 30 years of age.

The epidemic is of several types of sexually transmitted diseases.

Because we don't talk about it, it isn't funded.
Because we don't talk about it we don't know how many of our friends and neighbours are suffering from this epidemic.
Because we don't talk about it we don't recognise the symptoms in ourselves or others.
Because we don't talk about it we can be carriers without being aware that we are.
Because we don't talk about it men and women are losing their ability to produce children.
Because we don't talk about it a few people die unnecessarily.

STDs aren't sexy so no one campaigns for them

We can do something about STDs. Most of us can't do a thing to prevent a flu epidemic.

Just been watching that.
Do the young ones really not take any precautions?

I've discussed this with my son already, before he gets interested.
Parents must have a responsibility too.

Too many don't. They are so wrapped up with the compensation culture denying them any legitimate risk-taking that they play Russian Roulette with sex. And drugs. And speeding cars...

I switched off the STD show, watched Match of the Day instead (I think). But I did see the guy calming everyone's nerves by announcing that as many as 50,000 people could die from bird flu in the UK. But don't worry folks, it might not happen till NEXT year.

We'd like to do something to help, but that would cost money, and we don't have any. It's all going on wars and shooting innocent people on tube trains.

Did I miss something? But I don't recall him saying that they were actually going to do anything about it. Am I the only one who thought of Corporal Jones in Dad's Army. You know, don't panic. You're all going to die (except for the politicians and people with lots of money), but don't panic!!! Just sit quietly and wait for death.

Did you see them shoving live ducks, geese and chickens into black bin bags and chucking them onto bonfires. Maybe that's what they've got planned for us. Need to increase the size of the bags a bit though won't they?

Personally I remain hopeful that it's another government ineptitude, mainly because there's sod all I can do about it if it isn't. But I warn you Blair, if I do catch it I'll hunt you down and BREATHE all over you.

Have a nice day,
Chris

Although the hallucinations were cool.

Worry about this too...

There is an epidemic of Tubercliosis in the UK now.

Although most cases are treatable with antibiotics, some aren't.

Any TB sufferers will be very vulnerable to even a mild strain of Influenza.
