Is there a divide between the forums and the chat room?

When I first signed up here, it was with the intent of contributing to the literature database. I've always browsed this site on and off, but only until recently did I decide to write. I never knew what the community was like, I assumed it would be more civil than a typical porn site (pornhub, redtube, etc.).
While looking for an editor to help me figure stuff out on my first story, I decided to stop in the chat room to see if there were any around, and my god, did I mess up. It was the equivalent to me thinking I was walking into a library, and only upon entering did I realize that I just entered a porn theater where everyone was playing with themselves. I feel like I should have expected this, but I really didn't. I left the chat open, went afk for a while, and came back to a carpet bomb of virtual penises. Don't get me wrong though, some of the people there were actually very nice, and helpful. One of them actually suggested I try on the forums, because it has a better/more professional community than the chat room for the most part, and implied that the forums viewed the chat lurkers as scum. My experience on the forums has been a lot nicer than in the chat room, way more civil, but I was wondering if any of this holds truth in anyone else's eyes as well, and if there was a noticeable divide.

tell me more about these virtual penises. did they bounce up and down on screen? were they growers or showers? fuzzy or bald? fat or skinny? pale or dark? visible veins throbbing or blue underlines? if you could describe the collective smell of all these penises, how would you describe it?

Someone alert neci stat chat has virtual penises :D

It depends who you ask about the possible division between the forums and chat. Some of the chat people probably think we're rude, obnoxious, opinionated asshats and some from the playground forum may think we're cruel, hardhearted S.O.Bs.

Every forum/chat is different I guess. I suggest you wander around, get to know a few of us and settle where you find a good fit. :)

Welcome to the gb. We're all sʇnɟɓuıʞɔnu. Seriously RUN.

The main players are the GB (here) and the Playground (sub forum under Personals).

As a rule of thumb the GB requires one to enter with a thick skin and have a massive bs radar.

The PG requires one to interact with politeness and general pleasantness, and have a massive bs radar.

Any questions, ask any Litster that straddles both with some degree of decorum.

Chat is like a club where one goes to get laid, except chat is a byob bar and getting 'laid' means masturbating.

The forums are a half step up. It's still byob and the sort of 'masturbating' doesn't necessarily leave one's keyboard all sticky. But the 'club' itself is more like a neighborhood bar or a local pub.

Some assume that Lit is all about the literature. That is not the case. Many on the GB poke fun at the authors. There are some authors on the GB who claim those (like myself) that do not write are freeloaders. I would imagine that is the same on the Playground and the How To Board but I am a GB scum and not allowed to frolic in the other pastures.

Chat room? :) Have fun with that.
Oh, you're allowed, even encouraged to frolic on the other forums, but one is expected to be far more civil, polite, and pleasant in said frolics.

The GB is like the fan interactions at a Manchester/Liverpool match.
The PG is pretty much the Canada of Lit.
The rest of the forums fall somewhere in between.

^^^ He thinks that trolling posters with "jokes" about their serious health problems, wishing for their kids to die in a fire, mocking their dead children and so on
are so hillarious!
And they make him look like such a sexy alpha male!
