It would be silly to say he has no chance, but I'm a Biden skeptic from way back, owing mostly to his lousy showing the first two times he ran for president. He's never won over any electorate larger than the state of Delaware.

Prediction: he will stay at or near the top of the polls until the first Democratic debate, and then things may begin to shift some. He's out of practice as a campaigner, and it just looks to me like he's slowed down quite a bit. The contrast with younger challengers is not going to flatter him (Sanders is older than him, but old is part of his brand).

The only time I've seen anything of him really was in the VP debate against Ryan. And he took Ryan apart like a clock.

The other thing I'd point out about Biden is that the resume "career member of Congress" has traditionally been the opposite of beneficial when it comes to running for president. Granted these guys all won their nominations, but the longest congressional careers among recent candidates belonged to Bob Dole, John Kerry, and John McCain: loser, loser, and loser. Biden was in the Senate for as long as Dole, and then spent 8 years as Vice President on top of that.

I'm usually careful about pointing out that there's a difference between noting that something has never happened and saying that it can't happen, but I just don't think Americans in 2020 are going to vote for someone who was once a Senate colleague of Hubert Humphrey.
