My boyfriend recently started a job where he's out of town 3-4 days out of the summer (we live together). While he's been in town, he's been super sweet, and thoughtful, buying me roses and taking me out for ice cream. Well, I want to return the favor. I already cook and bake ALL the time (it is my hobby), so there's not a whole lot extra I think I can do with that. This is great advice, whether you pick cookies, or music or make something. If your "just because" idea shows your bf that: you think he's special; that you listen to him and that you did it "just because" he'll treasure it for a long time.

Consider including a note as well, telling him how he makes you feel, how much you get excited when he's coming home, etc. You sound like someone who tells him these things already, but it never hurts for him to have a note or letter to read while he's away and possibly feeling down or lonely.
