Amazing how you made academic topics so relevant and situationally illuminating. The Marcus Aurelius/Stoicism back and forth was especially pertinent and humerous (“of course a fucking Enperor would say that”). and making Kant relevant was another inspired moment. On a serious note, the Stoicism discussion was instructive. Fully useful counsel for all of us — kind of like Caitlin Clark modeling “cognitive reframing” for us (oh, to be schooled philosophically and psychologically by a blessed 23 year old).

Really well done, layered with philosophical history that added to the tale immensely.

Too much psycho-babble, it usually comes from the therapist but from a daughter...no way

Philosophy has never been my thing so I had to struggle through that a little bit, but the ends justify the means in the story. (LOL!)

Pseudo intellectual drivel with cardboard caricatures instead of characters.

I found they way they argued about philosophy while philosophizing kinda numerous.

I could certainly have done with about 70% less physchobabble but what a warm, believable tale.

Never expected to get an intro to philosophy class here. well written characters and I can understand the daughter's desires.

From my current WIP. Some background. FNC is recovering from a major SA trauma, but is still a virgin. The MMC is not a virgin but has had an emotionally traumatic first time. MMC is FMC's step-brother, raised together since 12, they are now 20. MMC is a principal actor in helping her healing process. Eventually, she asks him to be her first as he's now the only man she can trust. He agrees primarily in an honest desire to help. The line:

Before we sat on the double bed, I took one more look at her. I realized that her acquaintance with grief had enhanced rather than marred her beauty. When we sat down, I studied her face and saw the love and trust in her eyes, but also the fire and the naked need.
