Here's the problem:

If each contest story is 1 page, then all of the scores will be low as a result.

So the 3 winners will be the people with the least-lowest scores.

I'll have to go along with the others who disagree with this assessment, although I have to admit that I have a one pager that, while having more votes and comments than any of my other stories, scored below a 4.0. Admittedly it is a Loving Wife story, and I'm sure that is the reason for the number votes and comments - which are mostly negative.

But I've read and enjoyed many one page stories, and someone who wants a stroke story might prefer the shorter ones that get to the point LOL.

Thank you for volunteering to create a thread for the contest but instead of 2,500 words, I was thinking more of 3,600 to 3,800 words, one Literotica page.

Also for the intended purpose of this contest, the highest score won't work.

The most hits is how I'd like the winner to be determined.

The whole idea behind this exercise is to encourage more readers.

The problem with using most hits is that some stories will do much, much better than others solely because of the category they are put in. Looking at the Top Read in Last 30 Days list, Incest stories having 8 of the top 10 slots (Woohoo! I'm #6). Authors with an established fan base will crush authors like myself that haven't written many stories. So I think having most hits as the only criteria (it's one of four and important in a second) will discourage a lot of writers from entering.

Really, a contest like this isn't going to encourage more readers. Advertising would have a far bigger effect. Consistent quality stories with kinks that people enjoy will encourage more readers.

Even though someone can open and close a story over and again, I really don't want to have another contest where votes can be manipulated.

I don't know what's going on with the charges of vote manipulation. Personally, I think it only matters for the top stories. As there is no money on the line for this challenge and there are multiple ways to win, hopefully authors won't blame every little drop in their score on some nefarious cabal.

This is cool. I like this idea. I agree that most viewed is not the best way to determine a winner. Certain categories would always stomp the others. And I think it would be easier to click on a story more than once than it is to vote
more than once.

But if there were several ways to win? That could solve a lot of problems.

Laurel can post them all on the same day, she did it for the FAWC contests. It was a lot of work for Slyc to get them all in for everyone, but if you're willing to do it ... cool!

How do you propose to do that? A thread for voting? Some external website where someone would have to give authors an account? This strikes me as quite difficult to do.

I wrote that before seeing that the focus had shifted away from anything created by lit. I do like the idea, but it'd need to be a lit feature.

This is just that old runaround of admin to prevent anything from happening. I'd just split all of the contests off into two segments--short stories (no more than two Lit. pages) and novellas/novels (anything over two Lit. pages). It would take maybe ten minutes above the time it takes now to do a winners' list. Prize money split. If the prize money is just done away with, that would be even less of an effort required than now. But by letting this complicated scheme, which is tertiary to the real problems with the contest, run until everyone realizes it can't be done is a very convenient way of not addressing the issues that have been raised about the current contests.

I'm torn.

I've been both a critic of the nineties web design of this site, but also grateful for something quite unusual in adult sites, little to no shady malware/adware spewing advertisers.

So I will be partly sympathetic and acknowledge that the owners, while they probably make enough money to buy a boat, probably aren't making enough to buy an 80 foot yacht. And keep in mind, there's enough traffic here, that there could be ads in every margin of every page, which would pay for that yacht. But there aren't.

So, I'll still whine, but I'll try to be more understanding too.
