keystroke monitoring programs?

I'll confess that I'm not the most computer literate person in the world...

Does anyone know how to find out if there is a keystroke monitoring program/web trails etc. on a computer....?
I'm wondering if hubby put one on ours.....

And yes I realize if he did he will be reading this...lol

There is a program called "keystrokes" that will give every keystroke that you make. I have a friend who caught his wife in an affair using that program so it does work. I only know that it is hidden {kind of a bogus file name and path} and can not be seen unless you know the name of the program you are looking for.

Try typeing him hints and see if he picks up on them and surpise him.

The interesting about keystroke programs is that I have a program on my computer.

I downloaded it as freeware, which I collect.

Now, it is NOT installed on my computer but, Ad-Aware still finds it every time I run a scan.

There is a divice that plugs into your computer where the keyboard plugs in that records all key strokes and will not show up at all.

Write a letter stating what you're about to do, mail it to yourself, the postmark will verify the date it was mailed.

Then write a torrid note to an imaginary lover.

If he reads it he'll go ballistic....then show him the postmarked letter explaining why you did it and read him the riot act for not trusting you.

Good Idea.... but seeing as I've already written those torrid notes to imaginary lovers it won't work... lol

I'm wondering because we are in the process of separating/divoricing and I wonder if he is looking for 'dirt'....... but I'm clean as a whistle... well maybe not quite that clean...lol

It won't necessarily work, but the lower quality keyloggers will show up if you hit ctrl+alt+delete, look in the task manager, and check the list of processes. The issue is that the better hidden ones either hide in other programs, run as dlls, or do other similar tricks. If you're worried, a program like Process Explorer can be used to obtain a list of all open files. Search for handles named ".log" or ".txt" and open all the files listed with notepad or similar.

Just a thought:

Any decent monitoring program will have features to hide it from casual detection and identification but there is one thing no key logging progrm can avoid -- storing the information it gathers somewhere.

There are basically two options for storing the amount of informationa key-logger gathers: a hidden file on the hard-drive, or sending it to off-site storage over the internet.

If it is storing information on your hard-drive in a hidden file, turning on the "Show Hidden and System Files" in your file manager (Windows Explorer -> Folder Options for Windows users) and searching for a very large hidden file with no apparent source. It wil NOT necessarily be a text or doc file but it will probably be readable with a text editor.

If it is sending the information out over the internet connection, then it is probably listed in your firewall as having permission to access the internet and act as a server. Your outgoing byte count will also be high or have sudden unexplained peaks in outgoing data.

AdAware and other Spyware detectors should detect most key-loggers, but anyone who sets up a key-logger on a system could very easily add the key-logger to ad-aware's ignore list.

If you have adaware already, check the ignore list. If you don't have ad-aware, download it and run it, or download Spybot Search and Destroy and run that -- or both.

If you are worried about being spied on then I would suggest useing one of these tools that will scan your computer for various spyware/maleware/key loggers.

Some are free and some you have to pay for.

I have one on the kids computer. The only reason is because she is still a bit young and although I am in the room when she is on I am still a nosey mom. (Can't help myself)

Anyhoo, I use perfect keyloger. It is hidden, and runs stealth. It is found by looking into the hiden files as another poster stated. It not only keeps keystrokes but also screenshots and websites visited. Mine is password protected and in order to even access it there is a series of "hotkeys" that must be keyed at same time in order. IF it is this "brand" it will be called bpk for the filename. This one is low cost but is not easily found. The beauty of it is that IF he has put anything on.....and you find uot HOW to get into it you may find some dirt on him. Wouldn't that be nice.
