Kik closing down their app!?!

I don’t really understand what the problem is with Skype... you can make yourself invisible if you don’t want to be seen and I find the video function works better than Kik. You can also remove photos from both ends of the conversation. The problem with having Kik is its reputation which is sleazy to say the least. I’ve read a few accounts of relationship breakdowns where the spouse has found Kik installed and turned detective. Skype at least has non sex obsessed users ( I know right ? Weird) who give it an air of respectability.

Agree with this. Several years ago I was "with" a Litster and we used Skype some, but mine always seemed to freeze up. Since I got this laptop, though, I've had no problems at all. In fact, I just finished a call where we chatted, sent pics, and used audio. It worked beautifully, as it always does. But yes, the contact thing is a little squirrelly. The biggest advantage, to me, is that I can use it on my laptop, 'cause I hate to try to chat with those tiny little phone keys.

I hate that Telegram accesses your contacts and automatically shows your contacts on the app that you have it.

Can you make it where your contacts can't see you have it? Just curious

Yes you can, I’ve used Teiegram a year and it’s no different to Skype, you do not have to give access to contacts and it doesn’t keep nagging. It’s all in the settings.

I also use Skype 95% of the time and always preferred it to Kik, in fact I have two Skype accounts. One has all my friends, the other is limited to usually one other.

It’s video, phone and even encryption is now the best I think, with the private chat option. I had Kik but hated that you could only call with video.

I did a lot of research on this when I got Telegram, and it is the best for encryption I think, plus it does not have the sleaze bad rap if it’s seen in your phone. It works great and I have never had an issue with it having my phone #, as my nane in there is fake!

Signal is a good app to try. I like it. You can set it to delete after a certain amount of time. It will encrypt. It hasn’t been too glitchy.

Well personally, for me, the problem with Skype is I already use Skype. Skype for business is signed in for one corporation's exchange account, lync 2010 for another's, skype personal for another account. You can only be signed in with one account at a time in each app. The biggest reason I dislike using Skype for lit is that i am worried I will accidentally share something with one of the work accounts, hence wanting to keep my apps very separate. Not to mention bugs, anonymity, chat storage policies, file share speed, application size etc.

I have been meaning to try discord though.
